I love the art! I find it so pleasing and it fits the console ^^ Overall very nice execution! 💜

A really polished and fun version of bop it (or is it simon says? I can't remember how that game works lol). The animations, the art, the graphics and especially the crunchy, satisfying sound effects all come together to make a really impressive little game. I found myself really sweating to remember once I hit 10 moves (in easy mode, mind you- I couldn't get far in hard mode lol). It's a high score chaser, so it just loops back around to a new sequence once you finish a scene. Love it!

The artwork in this is super impressive for this short of a game jam! Simple yet creative idea executed well, well done!

How do you manage these levels of polish in a game-jam?

Needless to say with that previous line, everything is very smooth, and there’s a lot of attention to detail. (Just things like, bowing seems to be a bespoke animation for each character, so when the king does it, you can still see the circle of the crown now pointing towards the audience…)

I actually like the easy mode a bit better (and not just because it’s easier and I can still play when I’m more tired), because it keeps building onto itself. (I may need to retry hard-mode though, as it could just be different ‘threads’ of plays that build onto themselves, not just a single one.)

You complimented me on my use of saved-data, but it seems I (or even just you) are not the only ones doing that this jam! (Which goes to show that the Playdate API is quite well designed I think.)

The only thing that was unclear at first is if the misses where per try or for the entire playthrough.

(I’d also have liked the use of the crank, if only as an extra ‘button’ to remember.)

Showtime!

The art and vibe was immaculate, I think you nailed what you were going for. This put a big smile on my face 😄! Nice work

nicest idea / interpretation of this jam theme.  Good game flow.  I think this game is quite good for training his memory. Fun and nice animation.  Awesome work !

Cute drawings and amazing idea, my favorite part about the game is the curtains transition, it's so simple but still so creative! And the game fits the console well.

Rae, you've outdone yourself here!! Huge fan of the overall idea and execution. The game was very fun and the context made it that much more playable. The "three strikes" coughing was hilarious, and losing, rather than creating frustration, would get me to crack up picturing this poor fella getting boo'd off-stage!

I personally enjoyed the hard mode variation, it was nice to have that!

Amazing well-rounded execution, fun concept, really well done.

Graphics are on point as usual Rae,  really enjoyed the spin on Simon Says.

Adorable take on Simon. You did a great job pairing the motion and sounds. After playing, I'm even more impressed how quickly you shipped this. Great menu screen, as well.

If you fail without scoring, it crashes. `fail.lua:63`. Looks like you're not initializing score to 0?

whoops, thanks for catching that!! i'll see if i can't repro, and put up a new build after voting is over

found this bug! entirely just a case of me being silly, and not updating a reference to the saved high score for the new easy and hard mode. instead it tried to reference the single high score variable from before, which at best would be your hard mode score from v1.0, and at worst would be non-existent (causing the crash). now it should be just fine for the next update!

Drawings are great, especially for the short amount of time! , not too big on simon-says type games but the game is very unique for the console.
