Wow! Totally brimming with game feel and style! Definitely one of the most purely fun and addicting games of the jam (or maybe that I’ve ever played)! The whole game looks next level! The design and execution are off the charts!

P.S. The pixel art bbq looks sooooo delicious!!!

Very addicting loop of serving customers BBQ and killing monsters in the anomaly. Satisfying to see explosions of meat and showers of tips!

Awesome graphic style and cool gameplay loop!~

I'm just gonna say it, my favorite game of the show. I've lost like 3 hours to it whilst doing my best to give time to every other game and I want more. The visuals, the music, the gameplay loop, all super impressive, all super addictive. Please keep making games! Truly exceptional.

What a fun twist on a restaurant sim! The juxtaposition of the restaurant sim and survival shooter is so funny to me. A great idea executed well, well done!

Really nice animations matched with a super fun and somewhat addictive gameplay loop! Really enjoyed this! Keep making games please!

Loved it! It had such a nice game feel and the upgrade loop made it worryingly addictive.

Just got done playing this for far too long. A genuinely fun short game. The core gameplay loop is very strong, the amount of upgrades is nice, and selling the barbecue is satisfying. On top of that, the art is great. It's all strong, but the Chipp sprite was the standout for me. Fantastic job on this one.

Thanks for checking it out, very pleased you were so absorbed.
We really wanted to get Chipp in time for deadline, glad he was a highlight for you! Unfortunately didn't have enough time to go back in and have him do several doughnuts before he leaves like we planned. ;)

Absolutely gorgeous game!

Amazing game!  They style is fantastic, the concept is super on theme, and the game play is so fun!  I did get a bug when returning to the restaurant from the anomaly where I couldn't move my character.  Gonna play again though.

Edit:  It seems that there is no limit to how high you can upgrade most things, and I am not proud of how long I spent figuring that out.

Glad you had fun, thanks for playing!
Save game should ameliorate the problem, you should be able to play again where you left off after loading save. Please check which version you're playing, as we added a fix that might prevent that bug in V0.007 If that's the version you played we're going to have to keep hunting for a way to reproduce the bug.
Indeed, we didn't cap upgrade levels because we weren't sure how much money people would make, and didn't have time to add more upgrades.

Wildly good art style!!

Really enjoyed this one! Couldn't finish it since I got softlocked in place after exiting the anomaly space with 0 health, but damn this was cool!

How did an hour pass so quickly? This game will have you locked in from the moment you press play! Great gameplay loop, and the satisfaction of the super smile and Chipp going off along with the regular tips in the food serving portion, peak. Fantastic art and audio, great UI for the shooting portion, awesome!

Glad you were so absorbed, thanks for playing!

The coins from tips are one of our favorite features, and we're pleased to hear you appreciate them. It seems some players ignore tips in favor of sauce or damage, so we're considering how much we should tip the scales to make sure the appeal is made obvious. Thanks for the detailed feedback :)

the art for this game is incredible.  its also really addicting.  the gameplay loop is so clear and so fun.  its a very easy game to just sink into and play a lot of

Real flattered that you were so into it, thanks for playing on stream! Really seems like you get the appeal we were going for.

Hey, I really liked the look and feel of this game! The presentation is just really, really appealing. The combat section has a ton of potential, and it's got that retro crunch that feels soooo good. Reading through the other comment, it looked like you planned more for this game. Would have been nice to see everything you had planned, but oh well. This was still a fun experience!

I did encounter a little glitch that prevented me playing with a controller. The camera kept spinning around the character. I tried unplugging/replugging, or waiting for the game to start before plugging in, and a few other things, but couldn't figure it out. I ended up playing with mouse and keyboard, which didn't diminish the experience at all. (It was a PS4 controller, if that helps!)

Thanks for playing, we're glad you had fun with it! We love getting feedback, thanks for taking the time to write it out :)

  • We're planning to put together a post-mortem, and depending on feedback we're considering developing this further after the gamejam
  • Every player using a PS4 controller has had issues, but we don't have one, so we're not really sure how to configure for it. We have several different Xpad/Xbox 360 style gamepads that we test with, and also an Xbox One gamepad we haven't figured out how to configure yet.

This is really good! The balancing of the weapons is interesting, and I like the graphics style. However, since I like some constructive criticism in these posts, here are some nitpicks:

  • Is there an ending? At first I assumed it would be defeating The Pitmaster, but that didn't do anything special. Then I thought it might be getting Chip's upgrade (which seems overpriced compared to what you get, more on that later), but that wasn't it either. I only got to around Anomaly 15, so maybe it's later? I assume there's an ending somewhere (if only because I haven't seen credits), but a clicker might not have one.
  • The game doesn't seem like it handles coming back with tons of meat especially well--the stack disappearing when you have plenty left isn't a big deal, but it could use with a speed-up of the stacking animation after you cook (say, if you hold A it goes much faster).
  • The pickup range on the meat seems a little low--maybe starting at the level 1 range (as opposed to 0) might be good?
  • Simply increasing the money you get per dish is a much better deal than going through all the upgrades related to tipping, so much so that those upgrades feel like bloat. I can see how all the tipping upgrades could be better if you combine them, but it's much easier/faster to just upgrade the base price. Maybe that should be a more expensive upgrade--or if you meant it to be commentary on how bad tipping is for service workers, good work! ;)
  • The Pitmaster being able to put his hurt area over the teleporter feels a little cheap, but I don't know how you solve that without making it too easy to dodge (though it's not like you could just stay on that spot with all the other enemies swarming you).
Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing, we're glad you had fun with it! Constructive critique like this is useful, thanks for taking the time to write it out :)

  • We planned a fanfare for after Pitmaster is defeated as the soft ending (you can keep playing postgame for upgrades etc.) but ran out of time and didn't get it in time for the deadline.
  • I wrote credits onto the game page today, had to rest yesterday after crunching the whole weekend, planning to add it in a later build
  • Chipp recharges and you can fire him off pretty often, and his tips are superior and guaranteed, but I can imagine rebalancing tips in general.
  • We'll look into the stack of BBQ boxes bugs. The stacking was a very last minute feature and isn't well tested, but we really wanted to get it in. Luckily they don't cause any major gameplay bugs, just graphics. I'll check if speed-up is doable
  • The pickup range is pretty low but the first few level ups are also cheap compared to other upgrades. The goal was to encourage players to spend on upgrades other than money making, which was overly favored in prior builds. But I see what you mean, it is quite low initially, might shift up one
  • I can see how tips didn't seem appealing to you. Personally when I playtested I went hard on tips because I like picking up coins, so I'm pretty biased. All of the upgrade costs were rebalanced in a sleep deprived haze, and likely could use more balancing.
  • Will definitely look into making the AOE avoid the teleporter, that attack was also added last minute and not tested much.

No problem if you didn't get to things--again, if I'm talking about things like economy and animation speed in my comments, you must have done something right :)
