Hey Nezumirra!

Took a couple tries, but I finally made it through without dying or losing all my candy! Very nice little succinct experience and the fact that you did it in a new engine is really cool!

A couple notes after playing:

  • Like others have said, it would definitely be helpful to have some indication of where the hiding spots are with some sort of glowing effect (totally understand with the time limitation though that it might not have been possible) Just something to think about if you continue developing the game.
  • Definitely some sort of indication as to where the monster might go because right now it feels super random but then there were times where I was like he is definitely gonna go there again (and he did)

What I liked:

  • Audio was great! The main music was a lot of fun to listen to. I just sat there for a bit listening to the loop chillin. The sound for a new night was creepy, the boogeyman enter music was so stressful, and the boogeyman scream definitely got me the first time haha
  • The visual style is really fun! I think the textures and models all worked great together. I am not sure how gdevelop lighting works but it would have been nice to make things a bit spookier and dark as the boogeyman enters. Just as a little side note if you continue.
  • It was a very concise and well scoped project! Seems like you got your core game loops down

wow!! thank you so much for such detailed notes!! This is my first published and complete game so getting this much feedback is really really appreciated!

Clarity to the user is something I want to improve on, so I'll definitely be taking your feedback into account when I fix up the game after the voting period. I'm glad you enjoyed it overall πŸ˜„

My pleasure! I figure note quality is better than note quantity, so I am just getting through as many games as I can while keeping up the detailed notes. Also, cheers to that! The submission I posted for the jam was also my first -- it's nice hearing people's feedback on what can be improved. Always something new to learn :D

Great concept with very creepy sounds! I'd recommend adding some form of highlighting to show where the potential hiding spots are. And maybe some sort of meter to indicate how likely the boogeyman is to find things? But overall, great work for a first jam!

Developer

thanks for the feedback! Im definitely hoping to add more clarity after the voting period is over

Nice! I really enjoyed the 3d models and the boogeyman was pretty good looking. On top of that this being your first Gdevelop game is pretty impressive (I use Gdevelop quite a bit). So a very good entry overall.

Developer

thanks for your thoughts! Gdevelop is an interesting engine

Hmmm, played 2 runs but unless I got weird RNG seems to be a memory game. Interesting concept fursure. I like the boogeyman though seems like a cool dude want to crack a few cold ones with him.

Developer(+1)

secret ending where you just offer the boogeyman a beer and he leaves you alone 😳

Submitted

No way. BFF.

Nice, classic horror visuals, really liked that one. Tha candy hiding mechanics doesn't affects anything as I see, it's purely luck based, that were the boogeyman goes. Nice atmosphere, liked the little story in it. GG.

Developer(+1)

to be honest, I wasn't sure how the randomness would be received... thanks for checking out my game and giving your feedback! :)

Amazing game, The model of the boogey man is disturbing yet so artistic, Nice job

Fun game and a cool concept enjoyed having to strategize where I thought it would go next and place not only myself but the candy accordingly. Nice model for the boogeyman when it looks at you and charges to your location definitely feels like its going to eat you. One thing that would make it look a bit cooler would be if the lights went dim like nighttime has fallen when the boogeyman enters the room. Would definitely increase the fear and spooky factor of it. Had fun playing it nicely done.

Developer

thanks so much for your thoughts! Lighting in gdevelop is something I couldn't figure out but having the lights dim like you said would be sooo cool. Might try to figure that out after voting is done!

Fun and spooky game! I actually almost shit myself when he looked right at me from behind the teddy bear and came at me lol.

Developer

I'm glad you liked it! Teddy bear is my favorite hiding spot hehe

Simple but really fun and well executed, had a lot of fun with this!

I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the feedback πŸ˜„

I liked it! The graphics were a little overly aliased which was a shame because I loved the PSX aesthetics and this let it down a bit. GDevelop looks quite interesting for 3D games.

Developer

thank you for checking out my game and giving your feedback! I'm still learning how to get a good psx vibe :)
