Impressive stuff! Very well presented, good bit of humour in there. Nice work on the cutscenes, does very well for the presentation.
A score system or timer would be great for tracking progress and competing with others, but other than that, nothing to complain about. Reminds me of old flash games, brought back some nostalgia.
Very nicely done :)
UP2037603: This is echoing a lot of what others have said but the cutscenes you've included are brilliant and very impressive for the limited time to make the game.
The use of increasingly difficult obstacles creates a good sense of stages to the game without just filling the screen with more objects. I think the only small issue I had was that the rocket plume could trigger collissions that looks like they've been avoided although that might be deliberate for difficulty.
It's hard not to like a game with a story that boils down to 'local alien yells at planet'. Full of charm and care and gets to be a nice meaty challenge as you get higher up. A progress bar would have been a welcome addition as well as maybe tweaking some earlier enemy colours to contrast the background a bit more just to make them more clear. Other than that, really enjoyed my time with this one!
The cutscenes were hilarious. enemies were interesting and clearly defined. The way the background changed to show you getting closer to the moon was great (although a progress bar would have been appreciated, this option was far more creative). Overall, it's an great game.
The cutscenes were amazing and i love how everything flowed so well together from the restart animation straight back to the gamepaly.
The only thing i would add would be a way of possibly choising
weatherto retry or leave the game.
Absolutly loved it great work.
I absolutely love this :)
The animations were great, so was the music. The way the music kinda followed the difficulty spike was a nice touch.
But man, what is the helicopters' problem :)
The only thing I would add is that the lighter coloured bird was hard to spot, especially against the clouds. The other thing I thing would be better is the option to somehow skip the restart sequence. I mean its lovely and funny, but I saw it like 30 times :)
Other than that I have really nothing bad to say about it. Some details to add could be floating health somewhere. And maybe make the rocket look more and more beaten up as you lose health.
But I really enjoyed playing this. I haven't beaten it yet, but I will :)
Hey love the beginning animation and the game art was really great but i had a few concerns
The space ship doesnt really feel reactive to control
and the hitbox for the spaceship was far too big with the fire fully extended counting which just doesnt feel great sadly.
But other than that the game looks great and it feels like you have put in alot of effort
That cut scene was simple at the start but really does so much to drive and motivate a player which I think I stand out considering it could have easily just been game with a score and nothing else to entice the gameplay.
The fact that as you went higher and higher new objects were being added also gave a really clear promt to the player that they were progressing without telling them or using UI, while i never made it too the top because the RNG gods hate me and everything i do in life i will say because of all the effort you put into this game i wanted to kick that alien in the face.
Some life drop also would have been nice since the game can be quite tough at times.
Overall a amazing story was conveyed to the player with such few assets which i think is incredible.
Thank you for the feedback! I'm not sure if your anger is better directed at the RNG gods or me, because a lot of people are saying it's too hard lol.
Wow what a great look from start to finish, the cut scenes were a really nice touch and i really sympathized with the dude one earth who loves his planet (screw you aliens). So assuming this earth dudes name was Eric i spent a long time being Eric. We flew high and burned bright, hit a few birds and scared some plane passengers life was good! I never did catch that smug alien but each trip to the hospital only made me angrier, Eric would get justice!
The whole package was really wonderful, other than a scoring system i don't really have any faults with this game. Its clear you had a great time making it as much as i did playing it!
Thank you for the feedback!
I say the guys name is officially Eric now, I'm pretty sure you can do that when you're a developer.
Loved this! Especially the death loop, gave me a good laugh :D
Would have been nice to have some way to restore health, it starts to get very difficult, especially when the helicopter shows up.
Also would have been nice to see the moon gradually getting closer, though it was nice to see the sky getting darker which was a nice effect. Do the clouds stop after a certain point too? I wasn't paying attention to that.
Really impressive for such a short jam, great job!
Thanks again for the feedback! I definitely agree with you on the difficulty, I was struggling with balance near the end but started running low on time. Adding pickups to heal wasn't actually a thing I had considered though so thanks for the idea!
As for the moon, it does get bigger! Though maybe you have to survive for too long before it becomes really noticeable. And yes the clouds do eventually stop, though it's a bit jarring as they tend to get cut in half as they do. You can see a similar effect when they start appearing in the first place if you pay attention.
I really really love this game. Outstanding work dude! I love how you implemented a story line and animation to tie in each possible gameplay scenario into the plot, I love that. The gameplay loop gives you that push to go futher with the game, to get to the moon. I love how you added sound effects and music into the game that has the same energy as the gameplay.
The only issue I have is that some of the enemies, mainly the white birds, blend in with the background a bit too well.
Other than that, this is probably one of , if not, the strongest contender to win both catagories.
Thank you for your feedback! I'm really glad you enjoyed it and will keep the bird issue in mind!
Brilliant, I love how you made a whole storyline to go along with it, and the animations in advance, the design and attention to detail such as when you get hit how your ship shows the damage visual, it has a level of difficulty which really enhances the replay-ability
Thank you for the kind words!
Gonna start with this - love the visuals. They remind me of the good ol days of Newgrounds :) The cutscenes are really good too, especially the death animation.
The game is fairly challenging too - the random elements flying at me kept me on my toes all the time, and the music choice was very fitting for the interstellar journey.
Good stuff here!
Thank you! I'll pretend the style of visuals was intentional and not just what happens when I have like 20 sprites to draw in a day.
This makes me feel nostalgic of the era of flash games, the cutscenes are amazing, the rocket feels great and responsive to control, and it's obvious that you enjoyed creating this, and it reflects in the gameplay.
Thank you! I definitely got really into the groove for this, so I'm glad you can tell!
The cutscene's a nice touch/ It makes the game feel more immersive, and I like how new obstacles are introduced ramping up the difficulty over time.
I agree in Jack in that a scoring feature would be a good addition, but great job!
Thank you! As I replied to Jack I'll look into the score!
The cutscenes are very good, and really makes a decent game tbh
146mb is probably the biggest file size I've seen, I will say that you should probably have a height counter/some type of scoring so you know how high you've got so players will try harder on other play throughs.
Nice job!
Thanks for the feedback, a height counter is definitely something I will look into!
Those cutscenes are amazing
