I love it! I got so stuck on the 4th one I rage quit for a while and felt compelled to come back to it hours later hahaha. The input system is a little rough and I didn't realize I could move the camera for a good 5 minutes, but with a little more polish this can be a great game, well done!
Thank youuuuuuu. You're right that the input system is a little rough. There is a popup screen that tells you that you can move the camera, but maybe it wasn't clear enough. Hope you made it past the 4th level in the end... :P
I played this for far longer than I planned to. Some really clever puzzles.
If you were going to add one thing to this game, I'd want an undo option. I had to reset so many times because of messing up inputs.
I hope you make more of this. It's a really good puzzle system.
Thank you for the feedback :) We're really between two minds about an undo button. Almost everyone seems to want one, but as the commenter just below you said, if we add an undo button then our confusing controls aren't a feature anymore they're just bad controls.
We'll defo have a hard think about controls and undoing if we make it into a full game (which we might; its the only actually-small idea for a game we've had and people seem to enjoy it and we have ideas for how to expand it)
I guess it depends on your policy regarding puzzle games. To my mind, the solution should be challenging to find (which yours definitely is), but easy to execute (which it kind of isn't).
Really fun game. Super tough (the controls were a part of it, but please don't change it. It was the appeal for me)
The audio is great and chill, really fitting.
Well designed. Good job!
Edit: I saw you were going for an undo button. I must say that it will make the hard controls nothing but a nuisance. Right now it's a mechanic. With an undo button it's "Damn I missclicked again.. undo"
A more clear rear and front will help it feel better tho.
You bring up a really interesting point about the controls. I was thinking myself that the first thing that would need to be implemented would be better feedback: car moving animations so you can clearly see what each movement input does, animations for crashing into a wall and smoke rising from the bonnet to show you that you are now immobile (and choice sound effects for everything too). Once great feedback was in, how people would then review the controls would be most useful, imo.
We'll defo take into consideration your point if we do expand the game; not everyone wants the controls to just be made easy and your mistakes to be without consequence, as you say
The controls are a bit confusing, but that's the only bad thing you'll hear from me. It's very creative and I think the theme is well implemented
Thank you :) I'm glad you enjoyed it. and, as everyone else's response will attest to, you're defo right about the controls
Amazing game. I've been playing for quite some time now, haven't finished the game yet, though I'm really encouraged to do so :)
The puzzles are pretty difficult, but very well made and the concept itself is brilliant. Especially love the idea of using other cars to carry your car. The visuals and music is really pleasant, they work well with the gameplay.
I have only two complaints:
It is otherwise an amazing game, without any doubts the best one I've played so far and I would be really willing to pay for a polished and expanded version of it. Really, really excelent job!
Thank you for the thorough and praising review! To answer your complaints:
- we agree that steering is confusing! I think we've come to the conclusion that we like the mild confusion and that we'd do it roughly the same way again, but that we absolutely NEED two things: an undo button, and car models with more easily differentiable front and rear ends :P
- I think the connection of the game's "lore" to the theme is reasonably solid - the issue is that you don't really see much of that theme in-game. We wanted a little more storytelling but we were so behind just getting the core mechanics implemented that there was no chance in the end. xD
Nah guys, rethink your conclusion. I want to focus on the puzzles not on steering. There has to be a better way. Other than that fantastic game, though. Would buy the full version on Steam. ;)
I suppose the majority of commenters have wanted simpler controls, so that's the zzzzzensible conclusion. You're very right that the puzzles should be the focus. We've toyed with the idea of using arrows on the ground that you choose from, or fixing the controls (but that might be similarly confusing, as you can move the camera). We'll keep at the drawing board!
This is our first ever "finished" game, so we're very tempted to make a full game out of it. Thank you for the very kind comments, it means a lot. :D
really simple and nice one
good job bro
Thank you for playing :)
I play your game a lot longer than I expected. Puzzles and mechanism are very good. I can see where the theme resides. Controls need some training when you always switch vehicles. Some improvements can be made in the vehicle design to clearly distinguish back and front (especially blue ones), and an undo feature will be valuable. Though you got a real goo puzzle. Congratulations.
Thank you for the feedback :) yeah, we agree re. the car models. By that stage it was Sunday night and I slapped together a few primitive shapes in Blender xD Should have taken more care to distinguish direction
very hard controls but I had fun playing it. Fits the theme, congrats!
Thank you :D
I'm confused. I keep falling into the water because the car turns the wrong way. Am I missing something? Is this part of the mechanic?
Edit: figured out the controls, very unintuitive. But I guess when you can rotate the camera and everything it's kind of necessary. Super cool game though! Love the mechanic and the visuals are quite nice :)
Thanks for playing :) Glad you figured out the controls - they are a little confusing! Would definitely be our first area to upgrade if we made the game again
Pretty fun game, has a calming atmosphere and the music is awesome. Had fun playing this, was super unique and original. But I think it would have been slightly better with a bit of animations. The controls messed with my brain at some point but still had a ton of fun playing it! Solid game, well done!
Thank you for the review! Animations were on the "if we get time" list, for sure, but weren't to be in the end. Neither of us had enough experience with animation playing nodes in Godot, and it was a bit late in the day to accidentally destroy our movement script. xD
this was fun cute and relaxing, the puzzle start out easy and ramp up, which is nice, check point i think are evenly spaced. I would say id like to se an undo feature, but the reset is nice for this, the directions definitely start to mess with your head after a bit. But I enjoyed playing this
Fun game but the controls are really bad.
Thanks for playing! Yeah, finding the right control system (that we could implement quickly) was a bit of a struggle. I think we like the way it "feels," but accidentally failing half way through solving something is extremely frustrating. I think next time we'd try to get an undo mechanic into our code early on, instead of just the "restart level" button. :)
Nice! I liked how the puzzles kept subverting my expectations
I'm glad you enjoyed it! I realised at one point that the roads kind of meant nothing, because mechanically any road tile is the same as any grass tile. From that point, I was free to use road tiles to distract the player from the solution. When I felt like I'd done that trick a few times, I double bluffed it and made the road pieces actually point to the solution
My brain hurts! I only made it to the fourth puzzle but I enjoyed the chill atmosphere even as I kept repeatedly driving into the ocean. Nice job :)
Thank you for playing :D
The controls made my brain hurt haha! Sometimes I needed to think inverted, which is hard x) Maybe that was a part of the game though? :) Fun and creative concept! I like it :)
bro at this point i don't even know if it was intentional or not for the mechanics to be a bit hard xD
Hahaha :D
Nie graphics but the controls are weiiiiiird XD
Liked the visuals and the originallity, a bit hard at moments but enjoyed it.
Thank you! Now off to check out your game :)
The idea is so good! And I loved the combination of puzzle mechanic and "overly complex controls". It is a nice change between thinking about the puzzle and thinking about how to maneuver the car! Great job!
Thank you! People seem to dislike the fiddly-ness of the controls in general, which we get. Would be a bit of a toss-up between changing the controls or just adding an undo button, if we were to make it again. :P
i think I would prefer the undo button (so one mistake doesn't mean you have to re do the puzzle)! I think the controls give the game a unique identity, but I can also understand that some people don't like the controls at all.
I see you have already been drilled enough about the controls, but what could a relaxing puzzle feels like a nerve-wrecking all-or-nothing game xD
I found myself saying "oh I got it this time" 3-4 times in a row, so congratulations the puzzles design! :D
Thank you! that is both stark critique and a great compliment all in one! the most helpful kind of review!
All I'm gonna say is I did the puzzle design and my boyfriend did the coding so I'll chalk that one up as a win xD
