Thanks JD!!!!!

Thanks so much Yurga, was awesome to be in the competition with you!!

Awesome lil game, loved the aesthetic, and decently challenging. Amazing work for such a short devtime!

Thank you for playing Gaba, and some great feedback! I'm not sure what you mean by the "portals" - do you mean the things that spawn during the final boss? I'm going to change those with an update once the jam is over :P

Ah thanks for playing (I was a tiny baby during the hurricane of 87 :P) These are some great candidates for tweaks, thank you! The final boss should be no-hittable with the final movement upgrade, which is an optional secret. I'll definitely make her a bit easier in general - I literally modelled / animated / coded her attacks in the last few hours before the deadline XD. When the jam is over I'll be able to upload a version that's a bit more polished. Thanks again for playing and for the awesome video!

Hah this is absolutely my kind of game, so bizarre and unique! It reminded me a lot of old PSX games, both in playstyle and the weirdness. And there's a crazy story in there too! I made it to the boss, but unfortunately I got stuck in the ceiling after bouncing off his head too many times :P Would love to play more of this though!

Ah so glad you enjoyed it, and those are some awesome suggestions! The crystals that shoot bullets are meant to be smashed with the cane - they take huge chunks of her health away if you do that, and getting to them forces you to use the grav-switching ability. But I think most people aren't figuring out you can do that! I'll definitely tweak and add more stages if ever I return to the game, but for now I kinda want to move on to the next project :P

Aha, just tried again, and the B button works! In the game is says "Press the down button". Down on the D-Pad doesn't work, but the down-arrow-key on the keyboard does, so I originally moved to the keyboard.

Love the mix of 2D/3D, reminds me of the Klonoa games!

So many chickens! Great little game, loved the jetpack and the various arrow types. It's also a game where the health upgrades are actually crucial - the enemies get really hard! Great job all round :P

Great job, especially with the boss! So many crazy cool attacks, definitely felt very intimidated. Would love to see this with non-placeholder models and animations!

Thank you so much! Yeah I tried to make sure all the weapons had a use in the final fight - the crucifix for sending the bats away, and the cane for breaking the crystals that shoot bullets. But I think a lot of people are managing to do the fight without destroying the crystals, even though they take huge chunks of her health away! I made that last boss in a single day before the deadline, so it could definitely do with some tweaks :D

I really enjoyed my time with this game! The level design was awesome, huge and branching but not tooo confusing. I think I ended up with six collectibles, and the aura powerup - I just couldn't find a way to get rid of the red blocks! The aura powerup was super fun to use though, with some really well designed platforming puzzles. Great job!

This game was awesome, loved the character animations and the underwater vibes! I made it to an orange castle on the right side of the screen - is that the end of the prototype or was there more for me to explore?

Ah thank you! I tried that jump five or six times and always overshot it, I guess I just suck :P

hah okay I'm now on 50 deaths! I managed to kill the knight with spikes once, but you only get half a second to react! I found that I could run back to the other screen and he'll follow me and fall off the edge and die. But I couldn't make the next jump across the two platforms. I figured maybe I could remove the red line spike trap by shifting that block into a regular block, but the spike trap stayed there :(

This game is so juicy! The animations, the screenshake, the dust particle effects, it all feels great. The art style is super distinctive and charming. Carrying keys around reminded me of Mario 2 :P The music was a bit too much for me, but I really enjoyed my time with the game!

Haha okay I made it to 25 deaths! Love the pixel art, especially that little knight dude who comes charging at you. The concept of switching tiles is super unique, although I wasn't quite sure how to use it to my advantage? If I buy spikes from the shop, is that how I kill the knight? Would like to see all the ways you could explore this concept!

Please add some screenshots, these assets look really nice! I made it to the second area through the glowing golden gate, then got insta-killed by the first enemy and couldn't restart. But this project definitely shows promise, good luck with it!

Love the creepy surreal vibe of this game - both the artwork and the audio, it reminded me of those old Salad Fingers animations. The ability to grab objects and push / pull them around is definitely an inventive twist for the genre! I got stuck in the area with the "O" tile - perhaps I missed an upgrade that lets me jump higher. But really enjoyed what I played of it, great job!

Wow, this game is huge! The world is vast and there's so much going on - it reminded me a bit of the original La Mulana. I got horribly lost with so many options for exploration, but I'll definitely return to this. Great job!

Screenshots look awesome, but I couldn't get the exe to run on my machine!

Definitely a work in progress, but the character designs were really cute and I loved the concept of a bard fighting evil instruments. Enjoyed what I played of this - although it would be helpful if the game didn't close when you die! Also, was there an attack button?

Please add some screenshots - the art in this game is awesome! It reminds me of those old flash Behemoth games like Alien Homonid. Can you also let us know the controls? I explored a lot of the map and saw loads of cool things I didn't know how to interact with - I assume there's a "collect" button but I couldn't find it. Thanks!

I finished it! This is a short but charming game, the main character has a great design and I can see lots of potential for a cowboy-style metroidvania. Sounds like it's the developer's first time learning Godot - would love to see more!

Absolutely loved the pixel art and character animations for this game! The level design was also really cool too - lots of looping around and a great feeling of exploration. I had to give up after the purple area because those orange blobs were everywhere - please add i-frames if you can! But overall a great experience, well done!

Loved the vibe and atmosphere of this! I've also never played a runner-metroidvania before, so top marks for inventiveness. There's also lots of VERY lovecraftian lore which I really enjoyed. I couldn't make it past the wall of falling spikes after getting the climbing upgrade - I assume I'm missing something! But yeah had a really fun time with this, great job!

Seems like this is a work in progress, but looks promising! I love the idea of exploring a hellish labyrinthine HR department. I could imagine fighting sentient fax machines and filing cabinets. The level art is really cool, although it was a little difficult to differentiate between solid foreground platforms and background details. Would love to see more!

What an awesome lil game! The umbrella mechanics are really unique and mesh perfectly with the post-apocalyptic acid-rain world. The pixel art an animations are great, especially the various umbrella attacks, and the drinking animation! I nearly gave up on the first boss because I was hitting her for 3 damage each time and she was hitting me for 40, so I had no idea if I was doing it right - but then I won! I ended my session after encountering two different "crouch" areas that I couldn't figure out how to crouch through - for some reason my guy can't move forward while crouching - unless that's a power up?! Either way, it's clear a huge amount of passion and energy went into this project, fantastic job!

I wasn't expecting to be fighting zombies in a space ship!! I'm not sure if this counts as a metroidvania, but it was a lot of fun :p

My favourite game of the jam so far! Loved the pixel art and all the crazy character designs. The dog who just wanted a pair of jorts. And the weapons-based upgrade system was really awesome and inventive. Didn't have a clue how to fight the living cave, but it was a good place to end!

Absolutely loved the art and animation of the characters, especially the little birds that spit at you!!

The artwork and concept for this game are amazing, I especially loved the cutscenes at the start. Can't wait to see the full game!

Congrats on your first game!! The pixel art is really charming, and the platforming offers a real challenge. I found the slingshot upgrade but the red slime immediately killed me! I'll give this another try later on, keep up the good work!

Awesome game, the rhythm mechanics were really well implemented - loved the wall jumps with the spikes! The second power-up didn't work with my xbox controller so I switched to keyboard - those challenges were still brutally difficult though. I made it to the bit where both mechanics are used together and had to give up after way too many deaths, but really enjoyed my time with it!

Had a really fun time with this! You very rarely see swimming as a main traversal mechanic in this genre. The metroid prime scanning mechanic was also really cool, I would have liked to see it used for more things! I got to the first EMP upgrade then ended up stuck in an underwater loading zone where I drowned whichever direction I went, but I'd love to see this game expanded! Also the music was super cool :p

(1 edit)

Incredibly this game has fully voice acted cutscenes, as well as a running internal monologue from our protagonist! The gameplay is reminiscent of Momodora 4, with both the melee and ranged combat options. I managed to get the air dash after defeating nightmare, then I ended up accidentally fighting Ares a second time - I'm not sure that was meant to happen! Really enjoyable game though, congratulations!

The concept of changing the water pressure of your cannon is super cool! I can see how it takes longer to reload with higher pressure, forcing some tactical choices when fighting. Would love to see the other ways this mechanic can be explored in the future :)

Don't worry if the game starts with the screensize a bit broken, that's intentional :P

Absolutely adored the weird gothic aesthetic, and the limited grey/pink colour palette. The enemy designs are awesome, and there are multiple giant full-screen bosses oozing their own weirdness! Fantastic entry!

Thanks for playing Yurga, so glad you enjoyed it! The rifle upgrade removes the reload time, so you can fire about 4x faster! I'll try to include a message that explains this if ever I make an update, as you're the second person to comment on this. Thanks so much for your feedback!
