The artstyle, music and atmosphere was fantastic. At first I tought it was bugged and then the surprise, awesome. The combat was good but it lacked some sound feedback(as well the jump). At first I tought the hitbox were wrong but I think adding some sound feedback would solve it asap. All in all it was great the metroidvania part could be a little bit more intricate but that's about it. Reminded me of Axiom Verge.
Thank you for playing! I did not know Axiom Verge well, but after checking it really have some similar vibes, guess I need to try that one;)
Also thank you for the feedback, adding more sound effects in update is good idea!
looking foward to it :)
Love the giant chainsaw sword!!! The drill elevators too, and the lampposts. The art design in this game is fantastic, everything looked great and the music/sounds were good too. Gameplay was also good, nothing remarkable but as they say, no news is good news. I really liked what you did here, great job!
Thank you very much! As the climat was main factor for me here I am happy that you like it:)
Enjoyment 4/5: Could have done with a little more explanation and a little less weirdness. I know that goes partly to taste, but that is sort of how it went for me.
Execution 4/5: I'm not 100% sure what was going on.
Sensory 4/5: Could do with better balances/more inclusions on sounds/music. The actual visual aesthetics were nicely consistent as far as they went though.
Metroidvania 4/5: There's a couple of mobility/attack upgrades but nothing life-changing or super-big genre-wise. Maybe a tad on the linear side.
Thank you for playing and for the extensive feedback !
Very cool game, definitely one of my favorites (despite not getting very far yet)! I didn't see anyone else mention this, but going back up the drill elevator (the first one, if there's more than one) softlocks the game since it gets stuck in the going up animation after one screen.
I saw other people mention giving the bosses' attacks more telegraphing. For the first boss, I notice it does have a subtle one, its eyes opening. Maybe this could be made a little more obvious by having them open a little further than usual, to distinguish it from the normal blinking animation.
Edit: I see the second boss (and only other boss, assuming I didn't miss anything) telegraphs its laser attack by closing its eyes. Maybe its eyes could fill with red to show it charging its laser? Or just around the edges of its eyes, to make it a tad subtler. Just a thought.
I look forward to seeing where this goes!
Thank you very much my friend ! I am glad you like the game:)
Now I am working on update and your advices about the bosses will be very helpful for me.
When I get with elevator idea it turned out this gave me a lot of problems combining with scenes change when it travel through areas, so it was a lot of pain to make it work. Thanks for pointing it up! I tilt spawn points a little bit in the last day before jam and I see now the spawn point when going up is a bit to high, thanks to you I was able to fix it quickly!
Wow this is one of my favorite ones so far! Love the twisted art style, music & colors. Enemies look awesome, the combat is a little more basic but feels good and who doesn't enjoy swinging a revving chainsaw sword around? Great entry would love to see more added!
Thank you very much! I really appreciate you like the game and the vibe of the world :))
Game has a great theme, the music fits well with the game, calm and not so apparent (at least I think it was supposed to be like that), the arts are very good, getting a haunting and mysterious vibe, the mechanics with the level design it combines well.
It can definitely improve a lot, some things in the game design, for example gravity and movement, when I tried to dodge some enemies I ended up taking damage, because I didn't have time to escape.
Also the feedback, when I got the double jump, I almost didn't understand it because it didn't notify me that I had gotten it.
But anyway, a job very well done! Congratulations!
Thank you for playing and for feedback! With double jump the text was closinf after you press space, so I think you might press it just while text appeard;)
Oh, then I'm sorry, I must have pressed it at the time, thanks for letting me know!
Thoroughly enjoyed this one.
Loved the red/black colour palette. Everything from the character, their chainsword, the enemies and environments had an edgy apocalyptic look and atmosphere that I just really dug! And a weird thing to single out but I really loved the drill elevator.
The checkpoints were generously placed, as to make things challenging but not too frustrating. The Bosses lacked a little fanfare on defeat, but you can only do so much in the Jam timeframe.
My only criticism is sometimes I had issues with lower visibility, for like landing on platforms and stuff. And I think I accidentally skipped a hint at the beginning because it appeared just as I was in attacking range of an enemy and instantly clicked it away. Didn't hinder me though.
And a suggestion, it'd be cool if you actually had to stand on those women's dresses to attack them between their attacks. Putting them on narrower platforms was good, but most of the time I could be in striking distance and keep attacking while they couldn't reach me.
Oh, and how did I nearly forget to mention the intro. I actually restarted the game because I thought something had gone wrong at first. That pull-out was a terrifically impactful moment!
I've got a record I'll post when I upload it.
EDIT: MM21 Rustwind by Yurga
It is a joy to read such extensive comment, thank you my friend, I am really glad you enjoyed it!
With platfroms especialy in underground dollhouse, there could be some problems with visiblity sometimes, no doubt, this need to be polished. That point about standing on dress looks interesting and maybe could be used with the boss fight in the future. Generaly fighting fith enemies needs more general changes;)
Anyway, thank you again, hope you will be able to play new version of the game after some updates;) And can't wait to see your record !
It's up. There's a few bits in the middle where I keep falling into pits because I don't hit my space-bar properly.
I checked it on Youtube! Cool feeling watching someone playing your game, thanks !
I knew I was gonna enjoy this one when I saw that it had credits for "squelchy squirt" and "chainsaw sound"...
The art and general feel are to die for! Awesome! A lot of people already mentioned that well staged cinematic moment with the giant creature in the start, so I'll add to the list of cool things you've got going on here with having you walk past the hanging spider lady thing while just thinking that at some point you'll have to go up past that creepy thing, haha.
Some of the combat could use a little work I think. For example, the boss that was a big misty skull thing could really use some telegraphing where his pops out to bite you. Improvements to the movement, which I see some others have recommended, could also help with some of this wonkiness.
And, maybe this is just the designer in me making crap up, but I'd love to be able to hold the mouse button and have the chainsaw stay out sawing away.
Anyway, this one is super cool! Maybe my favorite vibe of any game I've played. I love it, squelchy squirt and all.
My Man! It's great to hear that many kind words! From your comment I can tell you really like the vibe of the game which makes my heart melt, thank you! Also thanks for the feedback, I am aware, that there are still some technical shortcomings + some design elements like telegraphing, that should be upgraded. I will work on it to make my little baby better ;D
Love the game concept and art! I love the design and animation of the enemies. As mentioned by another commenter, the player’s jump feels floaty. And I had a glitch during a fight with a skull-like enemy with many eyes where if the player dashes, he gets stuck inside the platform. On the second try, the player gets stuck again and then was teleported to the scene at the start before the boss was defeated.
Thank you for sharing that, I worked with it and thougt i get rid of this bug, I will look at it again. Thanks for playing, I'm glad you liked the concept :)
gorgeously creepy artstyle... at the start when the black border zoomed out and I can finally see the giant monster I just went 'Whoa'... but sadly game was unplayable for me, it just hanged there, tried multiple times, but it just kept getting stuck at that point.
Wow, that's strange I didn't get this kind of bug when testing it. Did you played on WEBGL build? If yes, please try another browser or please download the game. Its really much cool stuff after this moment and I would be happy if you could play to the end :)
yehp webgl, ill just download and play the game.
One thing come to my mind. You need to press left alt or left shift, for game to resume in this moment, when you see guide about dashing after boss appears
nope, definitely just hangs... and lags.
yehp, ill just download and play the game after I finish reviewing the other jam submissions
Good game! The bosses could use a little more telegraphing but overall the game felt pretty good to play and the atmosphere was nice
Thank you for playing! Good point with Bosses!
I really liked the black box trick in the intro, having the world literally open up to you to reveal this creepy ass monster was pretty clever. I think the presentation was overall pretty good, and the enemies were really unique! cool entry!
Thank you very much for kind words! I am glad the trick made an impression :)
Nice Entry, Well implemented art design :)
Thank you for playing!
Great game! I love the vibe of the whole world the controls were a little floaty but still really fun to play with. Love it :)
Thank you! I am glad you enjoyed the game :)
Thanks !
Loved the sound design and the art has a great "creep-factor" and feels very cohesive as a whole.
Thank you for the kind words and thanks for playing :)
The music and sfx are good, the art is nice and consistent (especially the unique-looking eyeball monsters and the huge monster at the start) and the starting window expansion thing is really cool! Good job!
That's great that you liked this window expansion effect, I wanted it to have inpact in the beging of the game. Thank you for playing !
Vibe of the game is really catchy. piano amazing fit the location and starting scene of the game is original. I wanna see how your game will progress!
Thank you very much! I am really glad that you liked the piano composition :)
The opening scene definitely caught my eye! All of your enemies feel visually in the same world no matter how unique they are! I feel like there was a lot of lore despite no dialogue and the atmosphere of the game really translated through. I think the health bar could be placed on the side of the screen or indicate how much was left as it was difficult to tell at times. Overall a wonderful job!
Thank you for the kind words and for playing!
You are right, I did not thought about it when created healthbar, i think i will implement some modifications;)
It is extremely atmospheric, loved the opening scene with the huge creature! The world that you created there is very interesting and I wish it was in a 20-hour-long game with lots of lore and stories!
Thank you! It means a lot for me, because the atmosphere was most importnat for me while I was creating the game. I will surely expand this title, so be my guest to try it in near future :)
