Incredible game!

The urgency it creates to charge up to full power is fantastic.  Sound track is banging.

Feedback, a lot of the time you could run round the enemies to get let in a line and just spam parry to charge. I think there should be a parry success sound and indicator.

Other than that, fantastic.

That was very enjoyable. Once I started to figure out the parry mechanic it was a lot of fun. Great presentation and music too. Great job.

Fun game! Like vampire survivors, but more fun because of the parry. Hyper light drifter aesthetic, nice!

This is really polished and I love the art style. The variety in enemies and different powerups keep the core mechanics interesting for a really long time

Developer

thank you! Can’t wait to check out Trencher

Hey! I was actually playing this before submission and it was really fun even back then. Not sure why so many parry games are in this jam, this is the 4th one I have played! Not sure how 85 stacks up, but I cant handle the wizard guys. I guess I just need to parry them or die? fun game.

In terms of upgrades, I think its to easy to get into a loop where every parry gives you 100 power and you just spam 1 parry into power over and over again, mabey cap that stat at 50?

Developer

thanks for playing! yea I definitely needed more time to tweak the difficulty, right now one of the viable strategies for winning is to get power per parry to 100 lol, the mage enemies are definitely too powerful if I had 1 more day I would tweak them a ton. I will definitely work on this post jam and they will definitely be different!

Very polished visuals and leveling, excellent job! I think the enemies need a slightly longer wind up animation, attacks can feel like they came out of nowhere.

Developer

thanks! and yea noted. It definitely needs some balancing in a post jam version!

Love the style, animation and overall presentation, a bit unclear how to parry, but overall very enjoyable and polished game!

Looks and sounds incredible

super stylish the music was phenomenal and i loved the ultimate attack did struggle to get the parry timing right but afterwards it was a lot of fun

Stylish and addictive! The gameplay loop reminds me of the flash games I played as a teenager that could consume whole afternoons. Powery is considerably more polished than those games though, and its action game design choices are much more modern, in a good way. I can tell that you put a lot of work into balancing the stamina consumption and regeneration, and it gives the game an ebb and flow that keeps it from becoming stale or spammy. Also, the animations and music are sick as hell and suit the vibe of the game to a tee.

As for constructive feedback, I'd suggest fewer but faster enemies. Parrying is essential, and it's hard to see the enemies' attack wind-ups when you get mobbed by a million dudes, so my strategy was to run away so that I could engage enemies one-on-one and nail the parries. Faster enemies would make running away less viable, and make it so that the only means of relief is to risk a parry and activate the screen nuke. That would tighten the risk and reward tradeoff, I think. And like I said, making the crowds slightly thinner would make parrying while in the fray feel more fun and fair.

All in all, Powery feels very complete in a way that few game jam submissions do, so hats off to everyone involved in the project! I had a lot of fun with this one.

Thank you so much for this very detailed response, it means a lot and I am very proud since stylish and addictive was what I was going for! I will definitely work on the game after the jam and your feedback is great for that. thanks again!

Awesome style, and this music went way harder than it needed to.  Finally started to get the hang of things, but never could figure out how to level up.  Was the mechanic scrapped?

Nice VFX.

Developer

thank you! press e when you are next to a tower

I already followed your development journey. Awesome what you have created. The atmosphere, the upgrades, the tweaking of the block ability. Great game!

Developer

thank you so much! that means a lot, i’m proud of myself and I hope you are too. will check out your game soon!

thanks! your game is a blast too

Fun yet challenging game! I loved the feel of it—the graphics and audio complement each other perfectly.

Developer(+1)

thank you so much for the supportive words!

Cool idea and nice graphics! It's hard to time the parries tho so maybe more feedback could help.

Developer

thanks! I have an earlier build linked in the description, which of the 2 do you prefer if you have time to play? both are uploaded to itch so im deciding. i think this current build has more character but is harder

A lot of things have changed but it is not quite a good way the game visual is hard to see sometimes I don't even know what enemy is there or their attack like spike attack for example and the parry is getting harder than before but the new key binding is getting better before I have to move my right hand to enter now I can just press q

my best score right now is 33 killed with level 1(I don't know how to level up try to press anything with relic but it not working)

My score back then is this. Quite proud ngl

Developer

thank you for the feedback. I changed the parry window but I do think it is a little too harsh now. I have another build on itch where it is a little easier but that was before the generated background. do you think it would benefit from having that version instead?

Developer

you interact with the power up towers by pressing E or on controller A
