Very pretty game and I love that you found the time to craft a story for the game as well! Choosing between different abilities during combat was an interesting idea, though sadly I didn't find it too necessary to switch from the basic melee attack since nothing really prevented the player from spamming it and taking the boss down that way. I did at least try all of them to see what they did and felt like and I really liked the variance in combat styles they offered.

The boss design looks cool, but since the player has a lot of health, I can just stay near the boss and spam my attack which made it a lot easier

Submitted(+2)

This looks interesting and has some story elements.

Bosses however, were a bit underwhelming. I beat them all with just basic punches. Other weapons seemed to take too long to get going.

I'm impressed by the pixel art and animation! The attack switching could have been assigned to a different input key, somewhere closer to the attack key itself. Also I don't see the theme being implemented too much, but it's still fun!

The visuals are nice, but the theme is completely missing. If you replaced the ability wheel with a list, nothing would change. Aside from the basic attack, everything else feels useless because the bosses are too fast.

Love the steampunk theme and art! I think that the bosses are a bit too easy

Very satisfying attack animation! I really enjoyed the attack patterns of the bosses as well. Beautiful pixel art as well. Great work! Only point of feedback if you're looking for any, is it was sometimes unclear where the walls of the map were.

Would love for you to check out our game as well! Cheers.

Thanks for your feedback! I agree about the collision detection. Something we'll have to work on next.

Pretty dope game my dudes

The game is fun, I feel the bosses could of have been a little harder because all I had to do is spam one attack and it was over, the wheel to me feels kinda useless because I mainly used the slash attack and sometimes the overload or the gear throw, but the idea is neat. The game would also benefit from some more SFX, I don't hear my attacks nor the bosses attacks, and my only indication of me taking damage is my healthbar.

Besides that, I love the arstyle of this game, love that industrial/steampunk-like look it has and specially that organ music track.

Developer(+2)

Yeah we have some major balancing to do. we had to make the game playable, before the bosses were too hard, hence the OP melee. I believe if you turn down the music you can hear the SFX.

Wow, one of the best finished games I've tried in the whole Jam. Congratulations for the work, I love especially the music and the visuals. Best of luck!

The visuals are incredible, the bosses are fun, but feel a bit too easy to just walk up to and spam attack without suffering any meaningful consequence. it feels like the visuals took priority over the main game mechanics, but other then than it was fun to blitz through the bosses.

Thanks for the feedback! Balancing the combat is at the top of our checklist for things to work on after the jam.

Wow what a stunning game, the art and world are absolutely beautiful great job team!!! The music is lovely and adds a lot to the tone of the game, the color palatte is a perfect fit and pulls everything together, the boss designs are excellent. All the little attention to detail is amazing; from all the different player attack animations to the spinning marionette icon next to the text box during her introduction to the very well polished main menu. The game has tons of juice and the world is oozing w/ spin with all the layered gears and clock arms littered throughout the level. The world is a joy to explore.

Now for some criticisms. There were some general bugs in my playthrough: one where the game lagged hard when spawning into the marionette boss room, one with the 4th boss getting stuck on a wall, and another where after beating the 4th boss it sent me straight to the title screen. If going directly to the title screen after beating the last boss was not a bug, then it would have been nice to have a more epic ending after doing so much work to build up the intensity of the world earlier on. My biggest critique comes with the combat. The player has 4 different attacks, each with a different theoretical purpose and each with a kick ass animation. The only attack I found viable was the melee one. The varying cooldowns for different attacks was a good one in theory, but in practice it made it impossible to land on the bosses. The bosses move around so quickly that by the time you get the attack out it is too late and you whiff or take damage instead. This coupled with only being able to aim in 8 directions makes it very frustrating to try and land any of the 3 ranged attacks, which is a shame because they are so damn cool looking. If I tried to play "fairly" and swap around with my different attacks I found it near-impossible to beat the bosses, but if spamming melee attacks and cheesing the bosses a bit, then combat became exceptionally easy. There were also elements that I wish had been fleshed out a bit more and served more of a purpose in the gameplay such as the moving treadmills in the intro scene and the coins (?) you collect in the beginning.

Overall, I think this is an absolutely beautiful entry, with music, art and boss designs that fit together seamlessly to create a world with a very real sense of identity. I think finding a bit better balance in the combat and boss attack sequences would have helped take it to the next level. With all that being said, an excellent entry, great job everyone!!

I appreciate the amount of detail in this feedback.

There's definitely still lots to work on when it comes to balancing the fights, especially when it comes to the op melee attack. And funny enough, we had plans to use certain things you mentioned such as the conveyor belts in fights, but the time crunch hit us pretty suddenly. Also the little coins are supposed to heal you, so I understand why you were confused after seeing them in the beginning area with no bosses or ways to lose hp. There's still lots to explore and work on, but either way I'm glad you enjoyed the game! Thank you!

Pretty cool lore and ideas here in this one. I managed to beat the creator, but when I stepped on the clock it took me back to the main menu. I guess he was the final boss, or is there a secret boss ? Either way, cool little game

Right off the bat, the presentation was great. The visuals and the overall look of the world really drew me in. That said, I also feel like some of the gears kinda made it hard to read the environment. Most notably the black ones used to indicate gears above you. I wasn't a fan of how they blocked the action sometimes

Speaking of visuals, I loved the character designs of the bosses themselves. That said, I'm not really a fan of how they ( and the player ) blended into the environments as easily as they did. This especially applies to the creator and his minions. I feel it would've been better for the characters to have different colours that actually stood out from the environment.

The different weapons the player had were cool, but I found only the projectile gear and the close range slash useful. I can definitely see someone who's more adept at the other two weapons probably find more uses for them, but I thought both the aoe slash and the long range slash were a little too slow since the bosses were pretty quick.

I think my biggest issue though was the lack of game feel. Both the boss's attacks and the player's attacks needed a little more weight to them. I could hardly tell sometimes if I actually did damage sometimes, or if the boss did damage to me.

Still what is here is pretty solid. Kudos to the entire team on this one

Developer(+1)

Yeah that was the last boss, we meant to get the credits in afterwards but didn't manage.. The gears were all spinning and had a fading effect up until it was submitted so you could see through them with transparency, but that all got broke somehow haha, that was the gear canopy with parallax effect. We decided to work with a limited palette of colors for artistic point of view but we do agree they blend easily. we didn't have much time to playtest and balance the abilities but wanted our players able to play through the game. We do plan wo work on it more after the jam though.

Great atmosphere, music and lore! The pixel art graphics are also on point. The flamethrower attack looked really cool, I wish it was a bit more powerful!

Overall a great submission albeit with a few flaws.

First, I found only the basic claw attack to be any use, the ranged attack has a weird delay so you miss more often than not and the other 2 attacks are too slow to activate.

Second, I couldn't beat the last (?) boss due to him spamming invincible minions over and over until I couldn't move. plus he went and sat over a pit so I couldn't even reach him.

But those flaw aside its a really nice and well polished game that with a little more balancing and tweaking could be something really special. I especially love the steampunk theming and how you're team has tied it into the character and environment arts, even the music is very fitting (albeit loud for my tastes but volume controls saved that).

So overall, good work.
