How does your game fit the theme?
In the game you have to increase your madness level (dive deeper into madness) by using your revolver to land hits on your enemy to increase your damage potential. You have to follow up your revolver shots with guns that do more damage fast before your madness level decreases

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
99% of the code was written by me except a dither shader and a vertex wobble shader. All the models are made by me except the heart used for the health bar which was made by neshallads on sketchfab. Sound/music is from pixabay and freesounds.com.

Biblically-accurate-fever-dream the game. I like it. It's a bit laggy on my potato though.

I am not a religious person so I can't confirm this but thanks for the feedback lol

Very cool game, I had awesome trip! Also, first unreal game I played, and it is realy good to see what other engines can do. Like your humor a LOT! I think is funnies I played. Keep great work!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks for the feedback :) Yeah a lot of people don't use Unreal for jams because Unreal games are expensive for no reason. I'm prolly gonna switch to Godot after finishing my current project lol.

Submitted(+1)

I can confirm lol, I've had a bunch of people tell me that they can't run my even run my game lmao

Developer (3 edits) (+1)

Yeah and it's especially bad when you are making a ps1 styled game since people would just think the game is badly optimized. I was going to switch it to forward shading so more people can run it but that would require me to recompile shaders and I was already running out of time so I just decided to go with deferred.

It's actually a cool idea. My main problems were just, that my pc really started to get hot and that the triple-jump (?) somehow did not really work for me. So not sure, just played the tutorial and once reached the mouse/s.

So based on that, just can say, it seems to be a real crazy world (hooligans, imposter mouse, police guy :-D ) and the whole style looks very nice.

So far a cool entry, and maybe if you optimize and make controls a bit easier in future looking forward to play it again :-)

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback :) There is no triple jump in the game you can do a double jump. As for optimization I couldn't really do much since Unreal 5 is really bloated compared to unity and godot and it doesn't work well with older gpus and the things I could do would take too much time so it's not worth it when making a jam game.

Submitted

Ok, no worries. I just thought i've read that before the last jump in the tutorial somehow or so. It just disappeared pretty quickly as i died.

Guess I'm just too bad in such kind of games :-D

But i tried rating it as good as possible, as if i would have played it longer, because read the other comments, and seems others didn't struggle that much with the controls.

A adore the aesthetic here. Visually and thematically, this game is a 10. The atmosphere in some sections is truly top tier.
Where I think the game could use a little more attention is in its movement and combat.
I think the player could benefit from a slightly higher movement speed, and I think enemy projectiles could be slowed down just a bit. A field-of-view setting would also be a nice addition.
Over all, I very much enjoyed your submission, thank you.

Developer

Thanks for your feedback :) I made the enemy projectiles fast because most of them are actually telegraphed with a sound 2 seconds before they do their attack.

Hey, really hardcore shooter :)

Good visuals, sounds and movement, the only thing it was a bit confused what should I do, but it's a minor thing. And I liked the aesthetic :)

Thanks for your feedback!

Yep, this game tells exactly how I felt during this game jam and how mentally unstable made me. Good work!

Developer

Lmao. I'm glad you liked it :)

Best Style Yet?!

Things I enjoyed ✔️

  1. I love the graphic style you chose! It feels great on the eyes!
  2. The movement feels very clean and I enjoy navigating around the environment.
  3. I love all the npcs especially the one that "is so cool".

Things I would like to possibly see with your title. 🤷‍♂️

  1. Honestly all I can think of is maybe just polishing, like adding a arm to shoot the weapons.
  2. I did notice with the bosses it is hard to get your meter up to do damage to them.

Overall 📓

I enjoyed my time playing your game. You did a great theme job for this title! It felt realistic yet retro at the same time! It feels like your in a dream, and I love that! Great job on this game! You should feel proud of it!

Ahhh unreal engine at last! Ahah

I really like the very original design style. It's not easy to get to grips with the dash management, but you get the hang of it. The purple boss made me sweat!

Thanks for your feedback :) im glad you liked it

I really loved the art style and the aesthetics of the game. The combat was solid but I wished the fov was a little bit higher ( to accomodate the fast paced gameplay) and that the movement was more like quake's (so airstrafing, ...). I found the rocket jumping incosistent and I think the issue is the lack of air control. Other than that the game truly is amazing! I loved the strange characters and their dialogs and the more easter eggs ones (like the revenge seeking tree for instance). Keep up the good work!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback :) I will definitely keep this in mind if I make another movement shooter

I appreciate the distinct and enchanting visuals within this game. The aesthetics create a surreal and dreamlike experience, immersing you in a mesmerizing world. I thoroughly enjoy the witty dialogue, which adds a touch of humor to the experience. Good job!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback I loved your game as well :)

i like how unique and charming the visuals look in this game. Everything looks so trippy and its like youre in a fever dream, i really like it! the dialogue is pretty funny as well. It might take a while for you to get used to the player movement, but the overall concept is great!

Thanks for your feedback :)

Great movement! The theme and the dialogue were super fun too :D

Cool parkour mechanics

Submitted(+1)

This game is very charming in its own unique way. It's a little bit too hardcore for me personally, but I enjoyed it nevertheless. Loved the humor and sound as well.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your feedback. It's understandable that it's too hard I wish I had more time to create a slow progression of difficulty sadly I didn't.

Submitted(+1)

Oh wow this game has a ton of charm in it, I love it! Everything from the visuals to sound design is so good. My only gripes would be the movement is kind of janky, where as when I'm in the air I don't have much control on where I'm moving which killed me a lot. Neat that you had a tutorial though I was still confused on some things such as the madness meter, rocket jumping, and even switching weapons. If this game gets fleshed out later in the future I think this has potential to be something great!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you for the feedback the worst thing about making this game was that I didn't have time to create a gradual progression of difficulty and explain everything slowly. That's why I decided to make the rocket jump an extra thing it's not a necessity :p. As for air control you can dash two times midair but I get what you mean you can only move one direction when midair which kinda sucks. I was also going to explain the madness mechanic in the tutorial but I forgot to add it in in the rush so I just explained it in text which in retrospect was not a good idea lol.

Developer

I just want to mention this here just in case people have a hard time understanding the madness mechanic since it is necessary. Landing hits with the six shooter (weapon 1) increases your madness which multiplies the damage you do with other weapons.

Submitted(+1)

The game has a great style and charm to it. Unfortunately I'm not very good at movement shooters, so I was unable to get past the rocket jump part of the tutorial.

Developer (1 edit)

Dw its not your fault there was a major issue where the tutorial was practically impossible to complete. There was also another game breaking issue where the screen randomly loses focus when trying to rocket jump both of those are fixed now.

Submitted(+1)

Nice game and good choice of music and sounds!

Developer

Thanks for your feedback! I'm glad you liked it

I like the twist on the theme and the way the game looks, but the objective of the game is a bit unclear and the bosses feel too long so I haven’t played through the game.

Developer (2 edits)

Thanks for the feedback the game doesn't have much or any objective since it doesn't follow a linear path you can explore around talk to npcs and fight bosses it's sort of an exploration game as for the bosses being long you actually  have to use your madness mechanic inorder to increase your damage as much as you can and use your blaster and rocket launcher to do damage. It is mentioned in text after the tutorial but isn't really clear I'm sorry for that
