Great game! I'm just not sure how to use the present cashout and it's a bit hard to place objects on shelfs.

How does your game fit the theme?
It is calm... and then... STORM!!!
Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
all the code yes, almost all the assets also yes but some of them are from epic marketplace

I have some PTSD because I did work as a cashier on retail for Christmas (in the toys section, unfortunately) and I know that experience all too well.
The music indeed reminds me of those retail days where I had this chill music blasting, while dreading every single second I spent picking up toys and clothing; or having to call the supervisor because the POS just crashed.
If you want to experience the vibe of what it is to do this for real, the music seals the deal.
I have a slight issue to pick with the graphics. When I was selecting the options to lower the graphics quality to the lowest (because, uh, my GPU is a toaster), I reached Medium
and the back button moved. I had to move the mouse to the left to reach Low
.
Veeeeeery small issue but it’s the kind of detail that might get annoying in UI/UX work. But nothing than setting the width to the largest string wouldn’t solve.
Also… idk if it was me, but were these the collision shapes for the shoppers?
On that same topic… why soldiers? Probably they also need to buy gifts, they also have families.
And, this is a very humble personal opinion, as a first timer outsider to game jams and gamedev in general: It felt like a mod for a much larger AAA game. Why? Because I felt a disconnect between the absolute pristine detail that Unreal is capable of… and the more arcadey-fast paced fun of the game. It felt like a modded FPS. That’s how I’d describe it.
It’s not bad per se, but it’s the first game I’ve played that I had that feeling. Which is weird considering you folks did most of it yourselves.
That disconnect between aesthetic and theme, it made me a bit confused. The rest? No problem. Pretty good and solid concept that I can approve it’s so real it’s a Retail Simulator. We had calms and storms every single day.
Cool concept and implementation of the first phase. The second phase felt very chaotic and messy gameplay wise(which is good) and mechanics wise(not good) Would have liked some more indicators of if someone is stealing or if I have made a successful transaction. Currently I am just spamming E and hoping I make a profit. And for the first phase also I would like some mechanic where you can throw the products at shelf and it gets placed. That way I the player will have more fun making chaos while also completing the ocjectives. That would make for a interesting gameplay loop also.
Kudos!! Made a great game. Also the music was pretty dope :D
I like the concept and the hecticness of it! It's funny how the "calm" time is the more busy and stressful one. I would have liked it it was a tad bit easier to place stuff on the shelves without them falling off right away or knocking other stuff off, and easier to place them in lower shelves.
Nice work! I like the concept, and the graphics and music are good. ^-^ I tend to agree with the comments on instructions, and although the settings and ui are on point, I'd love a camera sensitivity option. It was super sensitive for me. Overall, nice job!
For me the controls are not intuitive, I think I figured out later you have to hold down the left click. I'm not sure how to cash out or prevent people from stealing. I might try this one again in case I got a bug or missed something, since I really like how it looks and it does seem like it might be fun.
Wasnt sure what Im supposed to do for the Storm phase but great job coding and making (most) of the assets.
Well done!
such a nice game and concept!
there were some visual bugs appearing for me but im pretty sure it was because my graphics card is a potato shaped to look like a graphics card haha!
but loved the graphics and music and it had a spectacular(and working) ui and creative concept i have not seen any other game come up with!
This is a really cool and chill concept for a game. I especially like the visuals and the music was wonderful. I was struggling for a bit at the start but I eventually got the hang out it hahaha. I know it's a small thing I like and appreciate the animations and sounds effects on the pause menu and home menu. It's small but these things really make a difference. Great submission.
Nice graphics and concept. Placing objects mechanics need to be improved. Overall, it is great ! Good luck :)
