This game was really fun to play. The combat was super polished and along with the sound effects, really satisfying

Really satisfying combat, I love the throwing especially! Good job!!!

That is a cool melee game! It was fun but sadly short :D But the game mechanic was nice

A smashed them to oblivion!!! Fun game first time I didn't make it but 2nd time I did!

Definitely a unique game for sure! Love the detailed art tho I don't know what the heck I was smacking people with sometimes.

I like to see more type of maps with cool obstacles and more weapons haha, really well done!

Love the minimalist pixel art. Great Job!

Love it. Almost as stressful as being in a real mall.

One tiny piece of feedback is that I think it'd be better if you finished the level by touching the end, without requiring E to interact. I got to the end and then died because it took me a second to realise I had to press E.

Toilet Paper Buying Simulator

1. Does this game take place during the early phases of covid when everyone needed toilet paper? I have no idea what Poly is or why I wanted to smash face to get it, but it happened!

2. this game is a ton of fun. You get to constantly attack and smash enemies. Games like this in gamejams often fail because the attack range is too short and enemies are too abusive and swarm you so you die easily, there is rarely proper balance in these beat em up or vampire survivor style games where it's too easy to die. This game circumvents all of that with a really clever shield mechanic. as far as I can tell your weapon grants you an immunity shield bonus no matter what hits you as long as your swinging, dealing damage and taking damage chips away at this shield, but your health stays in tact. This allows you to keep the smashing fun up without dying! Then you simply need to find another weapon/shield to keep going. Each weapon is the same which is nice so there's not too much surprise just the core mechanics. I played this game on mousepad so i didnt even realize you could throw weapons lol i beat it that way by standing over enemies when swarms of them came at me.

Despite everything I just said, this doesn't make the game any easier, you need to make sure there are weapons nearby, you need to have the resources to beat an enemy swarm, it took me a few tries to beat this game.

3. The movement is nice, the attacking his nice game controls well

4. The enemy AI is great, they have a variety of attacks including leaping at you which is an awesome animation

5. the sound design in this game is PHENOMENAL, all of the sounds are MEATY and CHUNKY. First there is the running of the enemy shoes, its a very loud threatening sound that strikes fear in you, to hear a ton of these clattering foot steps during a swarm actually made me tense up. The weapon smack sounds are great too.

6. On one run I died right at the exit, i tapped 'e' instead of holding and I died, I thought I could get out without fighting

7. The gamejam theme is on display here. When the whistle sounds and the footsteps pound like a storm you know you are in for a real fight!

High marks given, great game

Poly Station 5 was ment to be a play on Playstation 5 which during it's release made stores extremely crowded and even ended up with some tuggigng and even fights over the console. The "shield" is acually just a simple stun that stops attacks if an enemy is hit. Weapons have some mild chnages some are better in one statistic and worse in others but they are all a simmular enough to be vaiable weapon in all situations

very cool!

Once again - glad to see you here! This one was unusually different from your previous jam entry :)
I enjoyed smashing these zombies in the mall. Visuals and audio are top! I like variety in enemy attacks which not allow player to relax too much. Random generation not allow just to remember the optimal route and forces you to react to environment which is cool.

Some feedback:
- I wish there were more visual clues on when you were hit or when your weapon is about to break, like I would like to throw my weapon once it's almost dead but it's hard to follow zombies, road you must go and weapon endurance bar at the same time
- I would place some items near the "goal" to allow player "clean up" the area once you get there. Right now it leads to backtracking and gathering weapons to kill zombies before triggering the "press E" event
- To think more, I'm actually not sure why throwing exists because my main tactic was to grab weapon, smash around until it almost break, throw it and take another one. If it's preferable tactics so it might be more convinient to just throw weapon automatically once it's breaks. I know what there are different weapons but gameplay wise I didn't feel urgent "find exactly this one to help me with this problem"
- Another think I would like is to have some time and space to get used to weapons and combat system. Zombies are fast at the beginning and will eat you without a doubt. Maybe decrease speed of enemies at the beginning before first trigger or something. Those running creeps making me stressing so I just starting smashing them not trying to think about weapon differences and experimentations :)

But despite this feedback wall I really liked game and will keep for "after jam" to play around a little bit more :)

*I added some visuals to the weapon breaking but it's hard to notice with the weapon being swang that well so it's mostly just an audio cue for both getting hit and weapon breaking.

*Honestly the items staying for throwing once they are broken is a good idea.

*Yeah some additional weapons could be scattered around the goal area.

*The weapon throwing actually can be extreamly powerful even almost cleaning entire hoards with certain weapons but I lowered the difficulty so it's not required to learn all the weapon advantages.

* I might have added a proper combat tutorial but saddly I didn't have time with most of the week spend at work

Time limit is a huge factor. I had like four evenings for an entry to make :)

Really liked the style of the game. Wish I had more tools to fend off the mindless hordes of shoppers though!

As a side note: wow someone else also made a pixel art game about shopping for this jam. I wonder how many of us are out there haha. I gotta find and play them all.

Really love the minimalist pixel art - my sort of jam and fun simple gameplay, well done instructions / tutorial also - nice and simple - great job

This game hard and is not very rewarding, the objects need one throw to be destroyed, the enemies need a bit more, once i get to the place and pressed e i didn't get what's happening, whether i won or not. Nevertheless, after two attempts the game quits itself.  Nevertheless, throwing objects to crowds of them is kind of fun, but there was no calm in this sense, so i'm in two minds about this one!

Developer

I heard abou the game quiting itself but I didn't have time to investigate it further. There are bigger hordes of enemies that can spawn in the game. While just roaming is fairly calm if you just don't run through all the enemies without stopping for a second, and the marker soon swaps position making you return back back to the starting area to exit through a zone. Throwing was generally ment as a finishing move you mainly want to use it when your weapon is breaking or it has good statistics for throwing. Sorry for the long reply

Felt great to play. Very satisfying to yeet a barbell at a bunch of enemies running at me and knock them down. Great work!! Congrats and good luck!

I will beat a hundred customers to death if it means getting to the toilet paper section alive.

i liked this a lot, but the lagspikes in webGL is a major issue. i obviously dont know what caused them, but i expect you're doing something like loading the character sprite when you instantiate them?

Developer

The problem is in how godot handles sprites on webGL loading all the animations for the character only when they enter your viewport I tried everything to fix it but sadly I would need to modify the compiler code to mess with that :V

Submitted

my game used godot and animated sprites and we saw no such lagspikes. its not a compiler issue

Submitted(+1)

wow i got beat up

Submitted(+1)

A really fun game, throw feels great and sound design is good

Submitted(+1)

This game really brings back the nostallgia of buying toilet paper during the pandemic

Submitted(+1)

Fun game and quite challenging at first! The graphics looked good and the fact that the different weapons had different weaknesses / strengths made the gameplay feel much more interesting that it otherwise would have been.

Submitted(+1)

love the art style and the gameplay was really fun will return to beat it

Submitted(+1)

overall it's a straight to the point jump in and have fun experience. i like it
