Pretty solid game with cute minimalist pixel graphics! Ending was pretty wholesome.
Only criticisms are that getting hit doesn't seem to have any major consequences (outside the boss fight) and that the default volume settings are way too quiet.

How does your game fit the theme?
You slowly approach the painter, eventually having to
resist his rage.
Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
Some stuff was reused like loading screens and ui scripts, but everything essential was made during the jam.

What a great game! I think you nailed how a gamejam game should be. Congrats on the submission, and sorry about the breakup [pat pat pat]
Really great game! Had a fun time playing it. Love the ending cutscene
The movement felt nice and the attacks were really well made. Though the warning attacks on the second phase could use some more delay imo. But other than that everything else was flawless!
Keep up the great work! Looking forward to some of your new stuff
Thanks! I know the attacks are kind of abrupt, but to conpensate for that I tried to make the checkpoints less punishing.
From what I've seen people playtest it they usually beat the boss in 3 tries or less and weren't very frustrated when they died.
Um, funny story. I knew I wanted a checkpoint mid-fight but didn't know how to signalize it, so I just added so random text. Originaly it was just stuff like "Take a break", "I hear you" and "Breathe...".
Yeah... that ended up being kinda goofy so changed it to something that actually contributes to the narative. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Great game! I didn't really think that it fit the theme much, but it's fun!
EDIT: Saw the explanation in other comments, and it does make sense. Just didn't put two and two together lol.
I always appreciate game jam games with stories, and this was told quite well, although I'm not exactly sure what happened in the ending. The gameplay itself is simple, but its fun dodging hazards and enemies, especially in the boss fight.
I actually didn't realise I was taking damage in said fight until I died (the rest of the game has you dead in one hit and I was focused on the middle of the screen). But that barely even matters because you lose so little progress. The checkpoints really help with the occasional times I'd get hit by obstacles on the edges of the page in general. Overall, an incredibly good entry!
Cool game! As a painter myself, i can relate :) I really enjoyed the graphics on the page. If you used a photograph cutout for the arm instead and let only the stuff on the page be drawings, the point would have been a bit clearer about the artist vs the art. Enjoyed it regardless. Well done!
Not quite sure how this fits the theme, but I enjoyed the game. And the graphics are beautiful
super charming game and story :) gives off strong Animation vs. Animator vibes, and i really like the boss fight too, seemingly taking inspiration from JSAB. Art looks fantastic too, but i would probably fix the hand/arm lol. It's super skinny >_>
I like the meta aspects and this was quite a fun game! I didn't realize that the backstory was in the game's itch description until after I completed the game, which made it a bit confusing. I would have personally done an intro cutscene for that bit. Good game regardless!
I really enjoyed the parallax effect and overall art style.
Sound effects are alright, but even at the lowest volume, some sounds were so loud that I almost went deaf.
The gameplay is cool and reminds of Undertale, but it doesn't require much thinking, just pure reaction. I would have enjoyed it more if, for example, I had to bait the painter to drop whatever he drops on the heart to progress.
Great entry overall. Complete and features an ending, too!
I really liked your art and presentation. You did a lot with a simple aesthetic and I felt the escalating tension fit the theme well. The boss at the end surprised me and was really cool. I had a lot of fun with it
That was funny! Loved the metafiction aspect. The boss's attacks and other aspects reminded me of Undertale. I've seen several games in this jam tackling anxiety, depression and other mental health issues, but in this one our player character isn't the one suffering from the condition. The black triple balls sometimes came out of nowhere, giving me no time to dodge, but the game was gentle enough with checkpoints so it didn't cause frustration.
damn such a cute game and story, definitely didn't expect the boss fight lol. I wish my notebook had parallax and friendly doodles :(
Good example of how something simple can be fun! The art and sound are pretty nice too. Good job!
