The movement of the main character feels a bit slow to me, but other than that nice job on the game! The visuals look really good and it's very vibrant and engaging.

This game got really cool mechanics like fishing or that you can fill your bucket with water from the boat and not only the barrel. Real Sea of Thieves vibes here, good job :D

Loved the ambiance in the calm, the storm part was really fun and challenging. Great work!!

Awesome concept! The visuals really enhance the experience of navigating a storm while fishing. I did struggle with the fishing mechanics initially, and figuring out the boat interactions took some time, leading to a few mishaps. But once I understood everything, it turned into a fun challenge!

Cool Game! I really like the visuals and the feel, the idea of sailing into the storm to get fish and desperately keep your boat afloat is great. I did struggle with the fishing min-game and still not entirely sure I got to grips with what I was supposed to be doing, and a lot of the interactions on the boat took me a whole to figure out so ended up sinking because I was just dropping an empty bucket on a fire or trying to fill it from the sea. But once I got how things works you have a great game here!

Can't play this game now as I don't have a Windows machine. But if you happen to make a web or Mac build I'd be happy to check this out, even after the jam. All the best!

"This game is so addictive."

I feel like the game is missing direction. It has a lot of stuff that can work well if used and presented right, which is not the case. It has potential, but right now it feels more like a bunch of cool ideas that barely work together. Biggest issue is the lack of feedback on what is happening.

Developer

if you mean the fire - you might have caught the bug with falling collisions, if you are talking about the fishing - the rod is bending if you are failing, that's some feedback init

Submitted

The main feedback I am missing is the ship condition. And by missing direction I mean the only thing you have as a goal is the score and in that case you do not need to risk going in the storm, you can just fish in the first area. Also the different maps, no feedback as to what the storm level is and the fish catch rarity (from what I have seen, maybe I missed it). Maybe some upgrades towards ship sturdiness or faster repair or faster fishing. It needs progression through the areas. The money needs other purpose than score.

Developer

The ship doesn't have any condition, it just takes only a certain amount of fires and a certain level of raising water. Yes, you can just fish in the first zone, as the npc said, it won't be much in terms of fish quality. When it comes to the upgrades, yea, we thought about it when we worked on the shopkeeper, the problem was that it was less than a day before the deadline when we finished him.

Submitted

Yeah, fair. Still, as a player I didn't understand the condition in which the ship breaks. As for upgrades I am sure you had ideas, but not the time. I was just suggesting what can be fun.

Developer(+1)

I totally agree with you, we had so many ideas and most of the time was spent on making them to life and not good game design. Lesson learnt, thank you on your comment

It pretty muck always goes like this. We were a victim of the same thing. Not even for the first time.

Fun game! I didn't get very far because I caught a shark and couldn't drop it twice and then the next run I immediately lost to the first storm, but I can see it being really fun if you get the rhythm of things. I'd like some more feedback when fishing, it was hard to tell if I was doing it right most of the time and it was a little bit confusing for me, but still enjoyable. I think the theme is very accurate on this game too, the contrast between just fishing and the hectic repairs during the storm encapsulate the theme quite well imo! Good job overall!

Very interesting game! I really liked the mechanics of repairing the ship, and the different locations were great. I managed to catch a huge shark during a storm which was cool, great work!

Developer

Finally someone done that! Now I wish I managed to catch all the fish in your game, before the rock hit my head D:

It is a very ambitious game and I like the concept. Unfortunately it has some bugs that didn't allow me to enjoy it in its full potential. I like that there is an npc telling you tips because otherwise I wouldn't figure out how to fish. But when the storm hit I was so confused on what to do. But I think that your team is very talented and can definitely make some cool projects! So keep up the good work!! :)

I really think there's an interesting ship management/fishing game buried here somewhere. The art style is very endearing and it makes me want to fish. Unfortunately, and it's possible I was missing something, I never really got to play that fishing game.

I think something has to speed up between fishing, repairing the ship, or putting out fires, perhaps all three, while the rate of storms, fires starting, and water rising has to go down. As it is, I start fishing, but I can't look back to check the state of my ship without letting go of the rod and having to start over. So I just commit to the one fish and then by the time I've reeled it in, the rest of my time is devoted to trying to keep my ship from sinking. Personally, I would make putting out fires and repairing the ship take significantly less time, since the core of the game is focused on the fishing.

There's clearly a lot of ambition behind this project. Keep going!

The idea was: the more storms you survive, the more peacuful time you get to dedicate to fishing, but, yes, we didn't properly balance it out as we were adding new stuff until the very last moment. It was our first jam (well, definetely my first) and it taught us a lot, thank you for your honesty!

I didn't notice the storms getting calmer, but that makes a lot of sense and would explain why what I was trying wasn't working.

Very strong effort for your first jam! Learning's the most important part

Submitted(+3)

The core gameplay loop is fantastically chosen for the theme of the jam. It really was calm, then it really was storm.

Of course there's a lot of bugginess, and I don't blame you for that. This game has ambitious ideas. As a proof-of-concept it succeeds. It definitely needs to be balanced a little better for a single player, but for what it is I did enjoy it.

Hee-ho. Nice game. Very cool mechanics to repair boat

I've played a lot of fishing "minigames" or mechanics and this definitely is one of my favorites! It may seem clunky for the average gamer but I get what you were going for and it's a fantastic concept, congratulations to the team!

Developer

Thanks a lot, appreciate your feedback!

The fishing is awesome. but the fires get a bit difficult to handle!
