Please share with us the connection your game has with the theme "Tough Choice"?
You can choose to save actual victims, or get a shiny power up that will benefit your character. It fits the theme both mechanically and flavor-wise.

Did you use any third party assets like art or music? If so, which ones?

Really fun game, definitely one of the best I've played in the jam in my opinion. The choice of where to go, how long to spend saving people and whether to choose the power ups or not makes for a great game. I like the background music a lot too and the sound effects work well. Aside from what you already know bug wise, I feel like the double jump could be a bit stronger and the flames could have animation but I like that there is some variation in the sizes and the variations in the help speech bubbles is nice too. I love the animation you got on the character, that's so cool and the game on a whole is designed extremely well

Developer(+2)

Thank you for playing and leaving feedback.
All the art and sound were created by the artist PiJaMar.

About the double jump, unfortunately, we finished development close to the deadline. At that point, it would have been too risky to change the mechanics, so we decided to focus only on fixing critical bugs that needed to be resolved before publishing. It definitely needs some good polishing. Thank you again!

Really nice game, I can imagine myself playing this on my MSX when I was young. Really great retro feeling.
As the retro feeling brings enjoyment, it brings me the same stress for not be able to play this type of games. I find it very nice, but I am sure I will enjoy more seeing a friend playing it and panicking rather than me be in the panic, but hey, that's great for the idea you wanted to deliver and you did it greatly.

Nice art, music and gameplay, you guys did a really great job. I would just improve the timer, with all the things to keep an eye in the scene, I totally missed it and the first games I didn't understand why I was dying all the time. I thought it was for the windows that are red coloured. Maybe the heat burned me? No, it was the timer. Make it blink or something and add a ticketing in the last 5 seconds to give the urge even more to move on without having to be leave the focus of the action to check the time.

And yes, it's normal that you can't jump while on the ladder and it's one of the reasons I'm so bad at this type of games, but hey, I would have probably developed the game with the same exact mechanic because it's part of the whole retro experience!

Well done guys! :-)

Developer(+2)

Thank you very much for the feedback. The Art and Sound are PiJaMar's work.

Regarding the timer/countdown, you're absolutely right—a visual element in the final seconds would look great. If we return to this project after the jam, we’ll definitely work on that.

This was fun to play! gosh I like the mix of gameplay with the theme was so cool.

Thank you for playing, glad you liked it <3

I swear i died of laughter everytime i had to choose AHAHAHHAHA The first choice i had was either to save a kid or to get the ENERGY DRING +20% SPEED SUPER YUMMY this was awesome.

The sprites were incredible too, i loved the music and the overall theme of the game, but i have one complain: the button for jumping and climbing ladders MUST be the same, because i died probably 10 times using the z button to jump

A mysthical experience, wow

Developer(+1)

Super glad to hear (or read) that you had fun!
We appreciate the feedback — if we're able to work on the game post-jam, reworking the controls will be a top priority. Thank you for playing and for taking the time to share your thoughts :)

This is a very interesting fun and challenging game, I made it to level three, I love the bonuses you get for saving people and how you progress to the next level. A very neat game.

Thank you for playing and rating our game!

I loved it! Fun concept where the theme can shine. The gameplay was solid with funny, but tough choices. The audio and visuals come together nicely. The only real critique I have is that the platforming is not tight enough for my taste. The jump feels too short for my liking and it's hard to stand on the platforms when you come from a ladder. Besides that you got one of the highest ratings from me! Great one!

Developer(+2)

Thank you for playing and rating our game!

The audio and visuals are masterpieces by PiJaMar, he deserves all the credit.

Regarding the ladder, we’re aware of the 'bug'; we just couldn’t fix it in time. When you overlap a ladder, you lose some platform movements, like jumping. Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough time to polish issues like that. That said, the overall experience wasn’t bad, and we managed to finish on time for the submission. In the past, something like this would have annoyed me so much that I’d have felt the need to fix it before working on everything else.  And probably missing the deadline. So yeah, I think we’ve made progress in that regard

And we’re so happy to see that we received one of the highest ratings.

Thanks again!

The choices are really cool, you need to choose the items that suit you. However, my player was stuck in the air after receiving a double jump. It would also be better if each window had one rather than several selections. And it’s very interesting!

P.S: I replayed it and realized that the game simply contains a small number of bugs(

Developer(+2)

I understand the type of bug you described; I’ll try to recreate it here.

And thank you for the suggestion about the window mechanic!

I enjoyed this and definitely had some tough choices to make.  I did run into a  bug: I got stuck on a choice screen, but couldn't make the choice, while I could hear myself running and dying behind that screen (I hope that made sense).  Anyway, I think with a small fix, this could be great.

Developer(+2)

Thank you for playing and for taking the time to explain the bug you encountered.

I can understand what you faced. I don't know exactly why it happened, but thank you for letting me know. I will look into it.

Developer(+1)

Glad you enjoyed the game! Thanks for playing, commenting — and even finding a bug. We'll do our best to smash that if we get to work on it post-jam <3!

The choices in the game are hilarious, adding a fun twist to the overall experience. The gameplay is simple but the difficulty is there! Overall, it’s a solid entry for the jam.

Thank you playing our game!

We weren't sure if the difficulty would be well-balanced, as we finished the final tweaks right up against the deadline, so fine-tuning wasn't possible. As for the choices, I'm glad you enjoyed them! PiJaMar created them all.

Developer

You thought the choices were hilarious? Damn, they were supposed to be terrifying and soul-crushing... :P
Snarkiness aside, thank you so much for playing and commenting, appreciate ya <3

Fun little game. I love the nod to fix it Felix.

I found the controls a little weird. Arrows to move with ZX as actions. I think a WASD with E to ladder and auto rescue would've been nice.

Otherwise, cool game. Nice work.

Developer(+2)

The reference came naturally as we put the idea together, and it worked well.

As for the controls, they’re strange even for us; unfortunately, we didn’t have enough time to explore alternatives, though it was in our plans.

Thank you for playing and leaving feedback

Submitted(+2)

totally. It’s all in the nature of game jams. They’re great for prototyping. Can’t wait to see other games you make

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Great suggestion for the controls! Redesigning them is a top priority if we're able to work on the game post-jam. I'm so happy that you caught the reference! It was Kryptopixel's idea — it's such an elegant nod to the game / movie, that it would've been a shame if it went unnoticed. Appreciate you for taking the time to play and leave feedback <3

Im happy that you enjoyed.

About the level time, unfortunately, we ran out of time for fine-tuning, but it was in our plans to better balance the game.

It is very interesting, it conveys a lot of that feeling of anguish in those situations.

Indeed, even though saving people is the natural thing to do, in this crazy game, saving only people could cost you your own life. Tough choices.
