This is a fun game, I love the floating head and exposition. The fun factor was limited, for me, by my jump height being exactly the same as the tile height.

Very fun exposition and atmosphere with the droning music, the detailed statues, and the rather intuitive flow of the levels. Good work!

Thank you! Yeah the jumping is really bad, I definitely should have tweaked it some more.

Really great game! I love the art and the floating head. The visuals and audio really gave a great atmosphere, and the dialogue gave a short but sweet story. Enjoyed playing this as much as I did playing the first game. Amazing job!

Thank you so much!

Cool short experience!
Really like the super retro style and the tense vibe, especially the floating head and jiterring font, that was a nice touch to make the game more dinamic to look at while you are walking dark corridors, after the ending I even went back to the find the first game, really liked that one also but feel that it maybe has some more varied scenery, with multiple colors and stuff, altough id imagine this is because of the jam time limitation, would love to see more of the plot in a next game.

Overall, pretty cool, would like to see a Hagrod 3 and how it ties in, congrats!

Developer(+1)

Thanks Davide for the nice words! I might try and make Hagrode 3 outside the jam, so I can create the project I had hoped to realise with this jam.

I'll look forward to it!

I like the lanterns lighting effect and the art style in general. Sad it isn't any longer or have more things to interact with. The story is that is present is very well written. I also like the idea of character the character portrait hovering around the screen. Well done!

Really cool atmoshpere and nice graphics. The colors matches the darkness really well.

The floating head was a bit strange, maybe you could make it's position fix to one of the corners followed by the text. The jump height could be a little bigger because it was hard to jump on the blocks sometimes but nothing serious. The volume was a bit too low, I had to turn my own volume up by ~300% to hear the game more properly. These are merely technical flaws so the gameplay itself is still enjoyable :)

The story is insteresting and I liked the exploration aspect. Good job!

I'm really lost in it as before! I always enjoy playing retro games and admire developers who insist on creating retro games, always reminding me of old games I played in the past with simple graphics but unique mechanics or stories. There's no doubt that Hagrode II is one of these kinds of retro games with sense of nostalgia which brings me back to past.

Compared to Hagrode, Hagrode II has the more creepy environment design, and I especially love the scary humanoid statues along the way; and with the same weird atmosphere as the Hagrode, it has made extremely obvious progress in transitions and FX, and a very typical Lovecraftian boss is shown in the end. Wandering into a grave and losing himself by the indescribable sounds, I couldn't help thinking of Lovecraft's The Temple. Unfortunately, due to time limit, it seems that Luke didn't have enough time to create a direct link between these two stories, but I definitely look forward to future works in this series, which may be able to form a huge and hauntingly creepy world!

Thanks MIYUMAO for the lovely comment again!

The audio effects are really good. I like the art style too and the twist at the end is pretty cool.

nice game :)

Developer

Thank you!

Didn't really expect that twist towards the end lol

Love the overall atmosphere and the visuals. I didn't realise at first that the face was my player's face  so that was a cool detail

It felt good to control the player and I loved how info was doled out.

Good entry overall

Thanks Bad Piggy 😀

The limited lighting really made it creepier along with the big dark empty space. The floating head also added some spook factor, showing the state of the character. LOVE the audio work!! Overall good experience, nicely done :D

damn this game is sick :) really loved the art on this the environment is beautiful and haunting. the floating head adds a ton to the atmosphere and was a great touch, every time he spoke i gave a bit of a jump. the sounds were nice and fit the world well, and the erratic effect on the text was great. the gameplay is solid and is adequate for the purposes of the game but not particularly stand out, but I did enjoy the climbing animation. however the world is so enthralling and the visuals so nice that the gameplay itself doesn't really matter. I think this could make a really interesting Metroidvania style game if you ever felt like going down that route. Great entry, you nailed the cosmic horror vibe!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a bunch PBA Studios! Funny you mention the Metroidvania thing because that was my intention with this entry, but I just became so busy with various things including organizing stuff for the jam that it all got out of reach. I have had even more ideas since so you never know maybe I'll stop slacking and I will make it how it should have been made.

if you do get around to a full fledged version, send me a message! I'd love to check it ou

Was excited to see that you did a sequel to last year's game! Something about the atmosphere really made my skin crawl, and getting to the ending was a great payoff. I really like the use of light and darkness, and how it played into the story too. I think being able to see the character's face really added to it too. Kind of like Doom's HUD. where you can see Doom guy.

Developer(+1)

Yeah I think the Doom Guy face is one of the reasons it's there. Would love to have the variety of expressions that Doom Guy has.

I enjoyed walking around with a floating head

short but entertaining game, loved the overall atmosphere, great job

Developer

Thanks a lot Baumhaustuer!

At first I thought the floating head is some kind of enemy. Later I figured its probably the protagonist.

I did like the atmosphere and art style.

I figured out you can press x to make the head disappear, also you can jump on ladders which make you go up fast.

Developer

Thank you :)

I really really love the art style

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you very much, that's very kind of you to say.

Really enjoyed this one! I have to say the story telling on this one was really good! I loved how you showed the face of the character that was really creative! It really added personality to it! And i Loved how it progressed and lead you to your end!

Developer

Thanks Lemi! Appreciate it
