I really liked how all the moves acquired and practiced throughout the course of the game came together in the end to defeat the boss. I should preface that with the fact that I did not actually defeat the boss :( I was unclear what to do after it became red and my stomps were no longer effective. I would've really liked to beat the game because I was having a fun time with it. Thank you for your submission!
To beat the boss, you need to super jump and then stomp on the boss. Regular stomps don't work. I should have made that clearer. Thanks for playing! :D
really cute game!! the art and the coziness are off the charts :)
Man... I couldn't beat the boss! That third mode seemed like I wasn't doing anything or he has a lot of hit points! It was very fun though! I especially like stepping on the pears? If that is what they were, really fun and cute!
Very cute game! I think it would be nice if I could skip or speed up the convo tho. Anyway, nice work!
A cute and short platformer. I think having the owl mention something about picking up the stomp upgrade may be helpful, unless he did and I missed it. Thanks for sharing!
short and sweet, some way to speed up or skip dialogue would be nice... also came across a bug, after u go in the middle room and go out, push the gourd to hoots house and it triggers the dialogue about the flower again, then screen goes black...
Great music, really appreciate the jump buffer and coyotee jump. However I got stuck after I passed the well. The down key should do the "stomping" but does nothing.
Thanks for playing! Did you get the stomp upgrade? If you already got it and it's not working, I'll try to fix it.
Maybe I didn’t. How do I get that?
Touch the well to collect water, then go back and talk to the flower. After that, go into the house and collect the acorn.
Oh, got it now. It didn't show the interaction symbol and when I was trying it before I must have been outside the area. I like how minimalistic the game is and how you used all of the special skills in the boss fight but after I finished the boss fight (my character froze so i suppose it was end) the ant went to me and screen went black. Don't know it is intentional this "dark" ending. I also encountered this bug where if I jump right before triggering dialogue, the character flies away :D I think you are keeping the y speed in dialogues or something, check that out.
Edit: I now found your comment that explains the dark ending is in fact a bug.
Loved this game. It was fun and easy to play. And we all know what it's like to deal with noisy neighbors, so his plight was very relatable. :D
(I also got the black screen bug at the end. I'm on a mac using Brave, if that helps you debug it. Thanks for sharing the play through below so I still got to see how it ends!)
A fun little game with great characters, art and idea! Also, combat and abilities are great as well! Great job!
This is a really neat little game! The art is really clean and pleasant to look at and the writing is witty and funny.
My screen turn black too after beating the boss, I think I somehow got hit after beating the boss then everything just went dark. But overall a really fun game! Great job!
Nice work -- I think my favorite part here is the concept of the tree as a kind of urban-style apartment building of small apartments, I liked that. The family of gourds living next door who hear noises through the wall builds that vibe nicely. I also thought the boss battle music was great. I made it to the end and watched your video for the final scene. Nice!
This was a fun game, nice job! :-)
Adorable little game! Some polish is to be expected. Yes sorry to say that my screen also turned black at some point after beating the boss but I'm glad you posted the ending!
The music is great, the art is lovely and the mechanic of defeating the ant(s) with jumping into (onto) it is clever and fun. Think there should be an option to turn down volume. Some jump sfx for the player would be nice as there are sfx for other things like text, smashing, doors opening, and squashing.
Thank you so much for your feedback! That’s the first time anyone said my art was good! I’m trying to get better at it.
I’ll try to make an improved version after the game jam is over. Your feedback really helps. I really appreciate it!
There is a bug where the screen goes black after you beat the game. I played through the game several times but couldn't get this bug to occur. I'll try to fix it after the jam ends just in case fixing it now gets me disqualified. If you're curious to see the ending, here's a video of the full gameplay.
End: 3:40
I would really appreciate if anyone would share more details about when the bug happens. Sorry about this and thanks for playing!
Edit:
A new version is available that fixes the game-breaking bugs and has other improvements based on your feedback.
I played this on the browser version using FireFox. Idk if its a firefox thing but I do remember a few games I've played on previous jams had issues that were exclusive to firefox.
I played on Chrome so it's not firefox exclusive. Funny minimalistic ending :)
The screen just became black out of nowhere
I like the artstyle, its cute. I also like the uses of some sound effects, the sound of stomping on a breakable platform gave me a good laugh. I got to the boss but somehow got a black screen after beating what I assume is his last phase. One suggestion I would like to add is to perhaps have the option to be able to play in wasd keys to give some wasd users some comfort. With that aside, I found myself enjoying this game a lot , amazing job!
good game, idk why when I beat the boss the screen goes black but really liked the story and metroidvania gameplay
The controls were quite tricky for me to use and the game froze on me after beating the boss, but other than that I enjoyed the game. For the second stage of the boss, maybe it could drop stuff that you have to dodge e.g. shaking the tree and making little pieces of tree bark fall. I thought the story was quite unique. Good Job!
Thanks for the feedback!
