I really like that you can get upgrades which helps you in the next cycle. Pretty challenging, but I managed to finish it. Nice job!
Well done. Thank you for playing :))
Absolutely euphoric. Gorgeous game design.
wow! thanks!!
At first I had no idea what to do. But when it clicked, it really clicked. The game looks and plays great. You should really consider making new levels after the jam. Potentially even an endless mode so that players try to beat their own or others' highscores. To facilitate this, new drops of dew could form on the existing tendrils to make each consecutive round a little bit easier.
Again: Amazing job creating such an awesome game in just 3 days 👍
Oh thank you! That the previous runs cause _something_ in the environment is a great idea. It's hard to do right because it could potentially make any level trivial, but man if we could do something with it, it would be so great! thanks for the suggestion and the nice words. I've been thinking on coding a procedural generation of the levels but I'm kind of afraid of failing espectacularly.
It will need a lot of testing and tweaking to get it right. That's for sure. But it would immensely boost the game's replay value :)
Surprisingly challenging in a fun way. I do wish there were a few more light / water pieces, as despite trying my best I never got past around having 100 cm left. I especially liked having to get close to, but not grab, the light pieces. I enjoyed seeing the end result of all the sprouts / the different paths I took, made me think of seeing the same in real plants and thinking of their own spring journeys. Very nice game
The best trick is to slow down on the stars to fully recharge :) The current level can be won without this trick but it's waaaay easier :P give it another go. I guess you got all the permanent powerups, but if you didn't the topright is a distance meter to them. (don't feel bad if you didn't, nobody that I saw play got the distance meters)
This game reminds me a bit of 'Flower', I think it was really cozy! I had fun! Also the first time I touched the star it startled me because it was louder than the rest of the sounds haha :D
I forgot to lower the volume of the burning effect :face-hand-covered:
This is a very sweet game! Being in the shoes of a plant trying to grow towards the sun really puts me in that happy spring mood and makes me appreciate the wonders nature creates each spring :D Just a very nice experience! Also I love the mixed media look of handdrawn game elements and the sunny photo background!!
Thank you for playing! I was having doubts about this mix of real photography + pixel art, it's difficult to get right and I was afraid it would make the game incoherent. You're the second person refering to it as a strenght. Would you go for it or change it to the same style as the rest? We weren't very coherent overall in terms of resolutions, for the next iteration I was thinking an aquarella or more artistic look like some other games had in the jam would be fitting. Like florish or spectacular smoothies here.
Really interesting idea... definitely see a lot of potential for this game.
Let's see where it goes! we'll definitely add a few levels in the future :D
Really cool idea that was executed quite well. Although the game was confusing at times as to what exactly todo, it was still a quick fun little game to be playing. The UI and vibe of the game is really well done and it is a cool idea that could be potentially expanded. Good job on the game!
yes we know now to add a tutorial in-game otherwise it's too confusing to figure out the mechanics on your own.
This game idea is really interesting ! I enjoyed trying new paths to achieve the perfect growth 🌷
Thank you! Did you beat it? Your drawings were incredibly cute :D I would love to have your style in cozy growth as well
Really interesting idea for a game! I found it a bit difficult at first but I got there in the end. Really well polished too. Good job!!
Glad you made it! We'll do a better job explaining the mechanics next time. Once you get it it's an easy level :) I'll make more levels and add mechanic-introducing levels once the jam is over. We're really motivated by the reception!
This was such a pleasant game! I really enjoyed it and ended up being very engaged in the game and was able to finish it. I didn't notice the star icons for the first few growths that I did, so I think those could maybe be made a little more noticeable. Once I noticed them though I really enjoyed the game play and the challenge of trying to reach certain points while balancing the water and light.
Oh really? Thanks for the feedback, we'll make the outlines thicker on further iterations and maybe increase the contrast with the background. Now that you mention it is indeed so.
This was one of the nicest games to play. It was cozy and relaxing. The game ideia is original and that's awesome. It catched my attention and I played it for quite awhile. Nice work!
Glad you liked it :) did you manage to win it? some say it's hard but I think it's because we didn't manage to give enough information on the mechanics, so I'm interested in knowing what did you get even if you played for a few minutes to make it better later.
I managed to win. The only like problem I had at first was figuring out how the light worked because my first reaction was to catch it but it burns you. But then I looked at it with a bit more of attention and I figure it out. So maybe having a little more information about it could help.
Very nice, relaxing game that’s perfectly on theme. I also love the amount of polish you gave to the game. The text animation really brought it to life. The fire animations did throw me off a bit as I felt like I was being damaged, but I can’t immediately think of what would be a better way to signify sunlight (maybe like a windchime sound? Idk that’s a tough one). I won’t admit how many dead shoots I had before I finally got to the end, but I had fun with each attempt.
Actually they do damage, the idea is that the closer you get the faster it recharges you but too close and you'll get burned, which brings your water level down. I wonder if making two circles with the limits and make the star change color when burning would help. For the next jam we'll definitely add a tutorial. I dislike tutorials but one level isn't enough to teach the mechanics gradually and unavoidably so there are this little misunderstandings. It was our first jam so now we know :D
I'm happy you like it :) we'll definitely push it further after the jam.
Niiiice ! Your game mechanic is really original I loved it ! The fact the more you try new rounds the more the level becomes beautiful is so cool. That's really a nice idea :D
I think you can make a great game with it has potential !
Maybe by adding other features like wind, other types of plant with other way to move etc.
Anyway I'm talking too much already, great job ;)
thanks! those are nice ideas :D I'll quote you if we happen to add wind. thank you for the feedback, you're absolutely not talking to much, we really appreciate it. I think we have to put gradually alpha to the previous runs because when there are too many it's difficult to see the pickups xD We weren't expecting people doing more than 20 runs before finishing the level.
Sure I'm curious to see ur game evolution, I'm glad you're happy about it haha
"I think we have to put gradually alpha to the previous runs because when there are too many it's difficult to see the pickups xD"
Haa yeah that's true but also in a way it give the impression you built the plant/grass line by line. It didn't disturbed at all haha
Maybe just an outline around items could do the job and keep the modification really easy for you to implement!
I retried a few times to understand how the humidity/sun impact the plant. Maybe it was not made on purpose but it gives kinda addictive mechanic because each time you can go a little further so you wan to retry etc..
It was on purpose! We wanted people to understand that failing is part of the exploratory nature of plants and that people inadvertently create a beautiful plant so it was ok to invest runs on understanding the world. That you get pieces of information by running was intended, kind of a roguelike vibe to it I guess.
Really fun game concept; it could have been harder, as it ended right as I got the hang of it.
Most def. Stay tuned for harder levels. The level was more challenging at first, you really had to go for the closeups with the stars and timing, but I was convinced to tune it down. I didnt have the confidence to add the level change and whatnot since time was already pressing but in retrospect it would've been better for little extra effort. It was our first jam so we tried to keep the scope narrow. Glad to see some skilled players play our game :)
I really liked how challenging it is, didn't fail to keep me engaged until i won!!
haha I was forced to tune it down, I was about to put in a much harder level but the artist was like yooo
fun and interesting game, i love the idea and execution of it! i touched big yellow ball and floated away, 10/10!
well done! thank you for playing!
You nailed it! Such a fun game, it took me some time to figure out that the light was burning me.
Great use of the theme, well polished and fun to play.
Keep up the great work.
Thanks! It burns only if you get too close, but the closer you get, the faster it recharges you. Did you get that from the sound and visual effects or it wasn't clear what was happening? Curious for the next iteration (given the reception we probably will push it a little further after the jam is over.
Fun game! Took me awhile to find all the points of interest.
Glad you had fun :) also chilled in your greenhouse, it was nice. Did understand the meters on the topright were distances? For what people are commenting that was our blind spot. And how the light stars worked as well. I'd be interested to know how was it for you :)
I did not. But its nice to know.
Great idea, I like how you fit it to the New Beginnings theme. I thought the sparks were bad at first, as the crackling sound was quite strong, and it set the plant on fire :D other than that I enjoyed it, well done!
Designing with restrictions really sparks creativity. I also think we implemented the theme very nicely :) I'm very happy about it.
I see very clearly now that we shouldve made more obvious that close to the stars is better but too close is bad, or maybe a tutorial level to clarify these mechanics. Thank you for the feedback and glad you enjoyed it.
