I liked the instantaneous movement toggle, nice touch. The music was nice. I was a little confused about what I was supposed to be doing, just starting out. The combat became a bit too easy i think, but i liked it.

Thanks!

Neat concept for an encounter system. I managed to get the ending that I wanted, but I was never 100% sure if I'd get the result that I wanted. I'll have to check it out after you update it post jam.

I like the story and the vocabulary based combats. The little robot is cute too.

Great job!

Where's the thesaurus when you need one?

This is really creative using antonyms to fight hence the duality theme.

I wuv your pfp, did you notice anything particular with the Overhanging robots?
ProphetBot

No. I'm dumb lol

Developer

oh have you not played OneShot? Your pfp is Niko from that game and that head is a voxel prophetbot from that game too, was I just being presumptuous?

Submitted

well, I watched people play but didnt play it myself. It also didn’t right any bells, haha. I watched it back in like early 2017.

Some crazy robots trying to freeze humanity, thats an interesting scenario. I like dystopian settings like that. The game itself has some nice storytelling and of course I wanted to see how everything pans out. The athmosphere was great and fitting. The "battle system", was quite fun and refreshing, I liked it, so I could breeze through to the endings. :D

I enjoyed playing the game. :)

Developer

Thanks for playing! Glad you liked it!

We've got some updates in the works, but they'll have to wait until the voting period is over.

All the stars.

I refer to this as "Antonyms: The Game"

More a little bit barefoot hippie, but that's not a bad thing.

Groovy man. Peace.

Hah, managed to beat it (3/4, aligned) in less than a minute. It was actually my purpose, to see how you can align them in the game, it ended up very easy, probably too easy.

I enjoyed music and sound effects, they're really fun and add to an old-school style of a game.

On a side note I wonder if there could be an enlightening subgenre in which you can show arguments of a currently debated topics.

Developer

Well done! Yeah, it would be cool to make the alignment mini game a little deeper and more challenging.

I like your sub-genre idea. I'd be up for making more contemporary hot-topic games.

Hey, nice game :)

  •  nice title screen, very cool :)
  • I loved that you put settings, its usually overlooked in other games, including mine :)
  • interesting idea, loved the introductory text and the soundtrack fits so well!
  • I loved the concept of interacting with these bots / SIANNs. Some tricky answers under time constraints and lots of content left and right :)
  • Nice atmosphere overall. Can definitely be expanded to other minigames as the theme is quite rich!
  • I didn't had issues with movement, but I felt that the game "heavy" without a particular reason; that would help the movement otherwise.
  • this is a general issue but Godot sets Vulkan as default renderer; however, some older systems like mine doesn't support it but they do support OpenGL3 and I was forced to start the game by adding an additional param. Perhaps this can be detected internally by Godot instead of getting an annoying pop-up? I encountered this one in several games.. This is nitpicking though, just something for the future to know :)

Overall, a pretty solid dungeon crawling experience. Definitely a good entry for a 7-day game :)

Developer

Thanks for the tip about Vulkan. I didn't even know you could start the game with additional params.

Submitted(+1)

Yay! Another sci-fi dungeon crawler! :D

I loved how you implemented the theme of duality. It was very novel :)

The input queuing tripped me up, until I realized that’s what was happening.

Solid entry and fun backstory :D

Super fun! The robot overlords are very cute

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!

Developer (1 edit)

For anyone who hasn't played yet: Please be aware that actions are queued, so button mashing may cause frustration. If you're finding movement difficult, consider turning on the instant movement option in the settings menu.

Submitted(+1)

I really enjoyed the art and audio of this entry.

As others have said, the movement is a bit off compared to other dungeon crawlers which unfortunately detracts from the game play. That said, if I slow down and try not to rush my movement it is playable.

I really liked the combat system and would be interested in seeing it expanded further.

Thanks for sharing this with everyone here <3

Thanks for playing.

We maybe should have made the "instantaneous movement" option in the settings menu much more obvious.

(Lesson Learned: Playtest movement with people external to the dev team before launch. Making movement feel better might have been a simple variable adjustment or two.)

I enjoyed the vibe and audio, the movement was a little rough for me but I still enjoyed my time playing.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Thanks for the feedback!

The queueing was really too much. Got ending 4 pretty quickly. The sound/music was the best part, really liked that :)

Developer(+1)

Yeah. I regret implementing the movement queue.

Thanks for playing!

The lack of ability to strafe and the general clunkiness of the movement queuing made this quite a challenge to navigate through. I sometimes ended up locked on some wall when inputing too much movement at once, it made the exploration harder than it could have been.

Other than that it was a really neat experience. I really liked the writing on those little messages disseminated around and this combat system was a nice idea and quite well executed. Finding the word that doesn't fit never required any guesswork and the short timer kept things engaging, good job.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! TBH: I don't know why we didn't implement strafing. That was an oversight. Point taken.

The movement queueing might have been a mistake as well. I implemented that because the dungeon crawler jam page specifically recommended it. In hindsight I realize that it should have been an optional feature.

Your feedback is really helpful! Thanks again.

my bad, it would have been super easy to implement strafing if i had thought of it. eh, it still turned out fine i'd say. (thanks for having me on the team, even if i didn't do much!)

Submitted(+1)

That's a very nice level of polish for a game made in 3 days, it looks very clean and controls very well. I love the "combat" system by word association, but I was never able to predict the outcome of my choices, so getting the outcome you want ultimately comes down to sheer luck. Also I wasn't sure hat most of the UI referred to (when exploring). But it fits the theme perfectly, nice work!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!

Thanks especially for the feedback about the combat and UI! During development, it's so hard to know what will be obvious or cryptic to new players.

Submitted(+2)

I really like how you incorporated word puzzles into the game, it was an interesting way to handle what's usually done with combat. I see "build" and I think does it want me to "improve" or "destroy"? Also the audio fits really well and the graphics look great. Very cohesive look.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! With more time I might have given each of the NPCs a backstory, then tied that to the word choices.

Submitted(+2)

Interesting use of the theme, it's celebrating moderation somehow.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! Indeed, moderation may be the key to happiness.

Developer(+1)

The screenshots don't match, but I guess it's something I helped made ^u^
