An extremely underrated game. I expected this one to easily get top 10 in a lot of categories. I think it was just too hard for a game jam setting. These Bennet Foddy games are for a very niche set of gamers that are both skilled and enjoy punishment.
Great entry! I gave it 5s almost every category when I rated it. Good luck in future jams!
Thank you, I appreciate it. This was my first Jam and have to say I am addicted. Best of luck to you aswell.
Looking at the comments, I'm clearly missing something here about how I get to the places I can't reach by eating bugs... I keep getting stuck down a well.
I love the music, the sound effect and the visual look of the game. It's very nice.
Amazing pixel art graphics, really cool chill music and didn’t have any problems with gameplay :D
Fun game, the music is cool. Love the gameplay. I felt like I was going in circles, until I realized that was intended XD
Fun game with good polish. I like the little bugs that make it so you can jump higher.
Very nice metroidvania, I liked the controller, the sound and the theme interpretation
I like frogs!
Very nice work! Starts simple but becomes intersting quickly.
great game! the graphics is good , I like good pixel art, the controls are responsive and gameplay is challenging and has a reasonable mix of obstacle and added ability for the character player. I enjoyed playing this one, congratulations! keep it up!
Fun game!!
Still in the middle of playing, but very entertaining metroidvania! Will play again later!
I enjoyed playing this, although my platforming skills aren't as sharp as they used to be so I couldn't progress very far. If I were to change one thing, it would be for the platforms that fall away to return to their positions more quickly so you're not waiting around to have another go when you fail at something.
Interesting game design
I'm guessing this was in some small part inspired by jump king and other such games haha. The game is definitely fun and, the pixel art is pretty good and the platforming feels nice albeit difficult and punishing. I'm not the best at these types of games so I couldn't finish it but I still enjoyed my time, great job with this one :)
The amount of polish to this game is exceptional, there were a few instances where I thought I got stuck but there always was a way to get out be it a fly I missed or an alternative path. The difficulty curve is a bit unbalanced and gets way too frustratingly complex after a while but as a masochist I enjoyed it. The game really keeps you playing and that's a huge plus. Great work!
The second part after the owl really got quite difficult for me. There's a lot of moving platforms and buckets and blocks and falling really far down was a bit too punishing. And the punish compounds, because buckets that were not moving and waiting for you to jump in are already moving back and forth. It adds extra trickier jumps to something that you had already failed at.
That's probably my one criticism. Don't get me wrong: despite that complaint, this game is wonderful. The pixel art is beautiful, the music is super pleasing and the looping does not get tiring at all. The mechanic is simple to understand but provides enough depth and progression to keep you going. Despite falling down and losing a lot of progress multiple times in the second part, I played and enjoyed this game longer than I expected I would. Really great work!
Thank you, I am personally a gluten for punishment. Your comments are valuable for me to gauge where the pain points are. Much appreciated. If anyone else reads this comment go play https://diego-escalante.itch.io/stomper, it is fantastic.
Really charming game. I really enjoyed playing it! I think jump height modified as a result of eating the flies is very smart!
Thank you I am glad you enjoyed playing.
A very cute, fun game!
I love the exploration aspect, and the idea of your jump height getting higher with each bug you collect is really cool! Your level design is top notch - for instance, there's an area in the castle where you have to jump between crumbling platforms & stable platforms in a safe place, followed by another area where you have to jump between crumbling platforms where one wrong move sends you really far back. It does a very good job teaching the player!
My one complaint is that of conveyance... when the player gets an increased jump height, it's difficult to figure out which new places you can reach without testing it out, and it's difficult to test your jump out without sending yourself really far back if you're wrong, which discourages exploration. IDK the best way to fix this that doesn't take away the experimentation aspect... just something to keep in mind for future versions!
The visuals are very cute, and I love the jump sound effects & the bug eating animation!!!
Thank you for the compliments and criticism. It will be valuable when I return to tweak the gameplay.
Nice game. The art is cute and its a lot of fun to explore the castle and find bugs. I like the sort of metroidvania aspect to it as well. Good work!
Thank you kindly.
Hey really nice game!
I love both platformers and metroidvanias and this was a mix of both. I think the jump mechanic where the jump gets bigger with every item collected is a clever way to implement the key system those metroidvanias need. Moreover you nailed the jump feeling like a frog jump.
The art was nice too for the theme. The levels were round which was a joy to uncover.
Good job overall!
Thank you for your compliments, I appreciate that you took the time to do so.
Love the art, theme, music, it all feels cohesive and REALLY polished. This is awesome! Love getting those MAD HOPS after grabbin a few grubs.
Glad you had a great time playing.
I actually went back and continued to play more after making the comment and when I realized there was more after giving the seven bugs to the owl.... Incredible. It' s like a fully fleshed out game already. And I love the little froggy riding around in the carts. :)
Awesome, I am glad you were able to get more out of it. Thanks again.
