Wow this is very well put together. The atmosphere is great, the game mechanic is interesting, and the voice acting is excellent. The 3D models are consistent throughout and look good while the sound design is also well implemented. Excellent job guys, I must say this is one of the best games I've played so far. The first time the monster thing popped up it did make me jump 😂
Very well done :)
Wow, thank you! That is high praise. There are a lot of amazing games in the jam so it is an honor to hear you enjoyed ours to that level. :)
Very interesting game, with a very interesting mechanic that I don't think I've seen anywhere else, good job!
Although I'm not a fan of games that are too dark, it is totally justified in this game as it is part of its gameplay, and I enjoyed it for the most part! 😊
The graphics are very good and the atmosphere is perfect! And felt really immersed in the setting! Amazing job!
The movement system is not the main focus of this tittle, but it would be nice if you touched it a little bit to feel more tight and polished to play. It doesn't affect the final product, but it's just a little something that I thought while playing.
Good game! 😃
Thank you for the detailed feedback!
The two things we definitely want to change after the submission deadline for the game jam is over are: 1) More instances of light in the level to avoid that feeling of "dark fatigue." And 2) To sharpen movement. But we appreciate the feedback, especially because we had little time to do playtests. It is very helpful.
Good to know! I want to play the next update when it's released! 😄
Wow, that was an exciting experience, although I'm not a fan of horror games. This was fun to play, even with the jumpscares (that I usually hate, but here are great). The mood is excellent and the sound effects are top-notch. If I'm to criticize something is that jumping feels a bit unfair, maybe a tiny bit of coyote time would have been enough. Or maybe I'm too used to it in platforming. A nice round entry, kudos!
Thank you for giving us a shot even though you don't like horror! We are glad you enjoyed it. :)
And yes, dialing in jumping is at the top of the to-do list once the submission deadline is over for the game jam. And I agree with you, coyote time would definitely help! Thanks for the feedback.
This was an incredibly cool game! The visuals were outstanding, the puzzles are interesting, and you got full voice acting! That takes some serious planning!
The one note I have for improvement is - I had a hard time telling in advance which doors required keys and which ones could be opened on their own. Which was fine, replaying the levels was easy and the game's clearly designed around it, but it would be nice to roughly know how many bullets I need to save for puzzle completion in advance. Unless there was some UI indication that you needed a key and i just totally missed it lol.
That is a really thoughtful constructive criticism. We'll definitely keep that in mind as we keep moving forward with the project.
Happy to hear you enjoyed playing. Thanks for the rating!
This is so well made! I absolutely love playing through this!
Thank you so much! We are glad you liked it :)
Damn, this game was awesome, really really good.
- Graphics are beautiful, love the lowPoly cel shaded look, cinematics, ambiance, the whole vibe, freaking cutSenes.. HOW? xD
- Sound really impressed me, with the whole voice acting and everything, sounded way higher budget than most.
- Story was quick but cliche enough, I was really surprised at end, for some reason I really thought it was gonna be a woman haha.
- Horror part well done, the jumpscare was tasteful and not at all overdone.
- Gameplay, the played really well, puzzles were good, right on point, the kind that make you think a little but you get there easily enough. I just had two things here to point out, I died a bunch of time because the jump is a little too powerful on forward momentum, countless times jumped forward and the character went way over were I thought he would land, and the second gripe would be the shooting to have light, I liked the idea when it was first introduced inside right when you loose the torch, but after a while it just got irritating and I would die on purpose just to get more shots and try to understand the level, I think its creative and adds a new spin, but if it was me I would rethink it a little, maybe extend the time that the shot lights the scene or maybe give more shots or make the light stronger, I'm not sure, but something to let players understand the level without having to die again to do it.
Such a complete experience, extremely impressive!
Hi Hugo.
Wow thanks for the detailed review. Glad you enjoyed the game!
Those are some really great points. Once the jam is over we do intend to keep working on this game and making it the best that it can be. Already from your feedback and others we know we definitely want to do a couple of things:
Fine tune controls - especially focusing on mouse/keyboard players. It actually controls pretty nicely on controller right now but is just a bit too touchy on kb/mouse so we want to really prioritize dialing that in when we're not in game jam crunch mode.
The other thing we definitely want to do is add more sprinkles of natural light in the levels and add more decoration/props. This will let players have a little bit of an easier time to learn the layout of the space and have landmarks to reference and know where they are.
I think if done the right way it would solve some of those issues.
Thanks for the thoughtful review. It's appreciated!
nice atmosphere, and it's well made and feels so complete .
Thanks, glad you enjoyed.
Man got so stuck when I see the flashlight spinning in the distance. Frustrating that I could not figure out my next steps on that one. Great game! Love the noir voice over, such a great mechanic to have to feel around like that and just add to the suspense. Really was like crawling around in the dark.
Thanks for the review.
You were so close to the end! if you wanna try again, experiment with shooting at some of the things in the area.
This is incredible. Easy 5/5. Well done with everything. I especially enjoyed the graphics, cinematics, audio/dialogue/ambience/music, use of theme/concept, story...ok, I enjoyed all of it. Nice work!
This gives me such warm fuzzies, thanks!
It was very tense, every time you shoot and the area around you lights up and you don't know what will suddenly appear, scary! The game overall is excellent, nothing to complain about. Loved it!
Thanks for playing! After playing your game I thought you'd probably like it!
Great atmosphere and a satisfying finish. Had fun. Looks nice too. I have never seen fog done like that in a game before. Is it a common technique? I loved it.
Thanks for playing. Glad you're enjoying that spooky vibe.
Hey there! Very solid entry! Good job!
The overall art style is amazing, loved the voice acting, cinematics, smooth gameplay!
Really good job! Keep it up!
Hey thanks for the positive words! Glad you enjoyed the game.
Absolutely incredible, professional quality and just such a great execution of the mechanics. Love the game and every part of it is just so well done!
Wow! That is such high praise! Thank you so much. :)
Great concept, fantastic atmosphere, great voice acting, modelling, texturing, scripted sequences, all of it. Very professional!
I gave up at hallway door requiring a key.
thanks for playing!
Ah man you were just getting started! If you want a little help getting past that part, make sure you have audio on (headphones are even better) and that might help a little.
Also the cutscenes in your game were really cool!
That's some good spooky stuff! The dialogue was great and the concept was cool as heck!
Thanks for playing. Hope you didn't hear our poor protagonist's falling screams TOO much lol.
This was an awesome experience. Gameplay was smooth, and the puzzles were well designed. I enjoyed challenging myself to use as little bullets as possible. Also the sound of the lighter and the gun was incredibly satisfying! Saved Sammy in the end what a good girl! Thank you for making this game.
That's great to hear. So glad those little details are being noticed. Someday we hope to add some kind of achievement system for using fewer bullets. I am glad you were already trying it!
I had fun with this game. I really liked how you used cinematics cuts to progress the story and how the player talked to prompt me to do the right things. The unexpected cracks in the floor are a nice touch where I had to look down to fined them. It added suspense. Really nice job!
Glad you enjoyed. We were lucky to have a talented voice-actor for those lines! Thanks for playing!
I love the concept of the game, I hope I have more visibility or bullets so that I can appreciate the level design more. I played till I'm stuck at level where I can't shoot my last bullet.
Ah! That's the final level! We are glad that you got that far though. Thanks so much!
And thank you for the note. We have talked about adding areas that have more natural (aka from the level) light rather than complete darkness all the time. So that is awesome feedback.
This was such a smooth experience and super cool! Although I don't like playing horror games, 5/5 for everything!! Love how you interpreted the theme too. 🔫🕯️
Thank you for the feedback! We're so glad you still gave it a shot even though it was horror-ish. :)
Cool take on the theme quite an interesting game. Definitely died a lot.
Thank you so much for the sacrifice of your many lives! :P
