I really like this concept of interactive board game, and fun watching all the pieces moving around.  I did have a hard time figuring out what was happening.  My point were going up, but then suddenly stopped and dropped to zero, not sure why.  This is a really nice entry though!  Good job!

I liked the concept and the gameplay but wasn’t 100% sure what I was doing :S

Really good game for a game jam. To be honest, I wasn't able to finish a game because I wasn't too sure of what I was doing. But it's simple enough to have a bit of fun expanding and sending units destroy opponent's castle.

Some stuff that might be useful for guys like me:

- The tutorial said "the building need to be on your area to work", but sometimes when I put them, it snaps outside of my green area. So I wasn't sure they will work or not.

- I approved what other players said about the AI. If they do something different, we can't learn from them by mimicking and get better. Which is too bad in a strategic games.

(Just saw your comment about the rules of AI and stuff. You should add it to the submission page as a quick tips)

Good submission!

Nice game, maybe the UI is a  little bit confusing at first!

It's a really cool game with a lot of strategy!

My big complaint is... how the heck are the other countries affording so many towers if nobody else has farms? Considering the core cliche that the game is named after, it's weird how all the other players get to spawn endless units & buildings without making hay themselves? Which is really tough for the difficulty curve - the smart way to win is to target farms, like the enemies do, but without farms there's no way for me to slow the enemies down.

The controls are also kinda rough... there were tons of times when I repeatedly placed a farm inside my kingdom, only for it to teleport outside over and over. And by the time I managed to place it in my kingdom, the farm had deteriorated, since u can't place buildings outside your kingdom. If the game does use some sort of grid to align buildings, it would be nice to see that so we could know how many buildings we're allowed to place.

I can see why you got confused but hopefully this helps.

-The ais do their own thing with different rules, they don't build farms they just attack and expand

-You can destroy the ais bases before their built and they also attack each other (strategy is to focus on defense and make sure they don't build too close)

-If you try placing a building too close to another it will move to a position it can be placed

- Buildings outside of your area won't get damaged or do whatever their supposed to do

-The farms will regain their hay when you place them on your area (the hay is there to show you it is active)

-That kinda takes away from the board game aesthetic, doesn't it? It also leads to things being somewhat unbalanced - the AI can build units much faster than I can (basically every enemy territory I saw was full of towers). And again, the game is inspired by "make hay while the sun shines" - so it's weird how the AI gets to skip over the game's core theme.

-I did destroy the AI, completely wiped them out, and then the game said "a union has been formed" and a new even stronger AI kingdom showed up that I couldn't beat lol.

-See, that's what I thought, but I was literally able to place buildings on top of other buildings, literally overlapping. I think if you're going to have a system like that, there needs to be an indicator to the player before the buildings are placed - many building games (e.g. SimCity) will have the building turn red when you're placing it down in an illegal spot, and just not let you place it until you find a legal spot. Alternatively, having dots on the board that you're allowed to place buildings on, so the space use is a more clear strategy for which territory to start in (since u can see which territories have the most dots in them).

-IDK, I moved the hay-less farm back to my territory, and it didn't grow back the hay. In general that's also something that could be improved about the interactions though - some sort of timer visible above each building that shows how often it's going to take an action (e.g. how quickly a barracks will spawn soldiers after I have enough points).

Hey! Really nice game! I love strategy games in general and i like to see a submission like that. I really like the over the board view you chose. It really adds to the experience and feels like playing a board game. I ended up spending a lot of time on that. A couple of things that i feel could improve the experience would be a fast forward button and some descriptions on what each building does cause that was a bit hard to understand initially!

Overall a really nice entry!

Really cool game! The mechanics were fun, if not a bit tricky to get the hang of at first. And there is a good amount of content here. The game reminds me of settlers of catan in some ways as well. I do wish there were a little more camera controls however, such as panning left and right or zooming in. I wasn't able to see the full board as it cut off on the left and right for me. really nice job overall though!

General vibe, graphics, UI all are really cool.

I am a bit confused on how to play though... Trying to just place things and see if anything happens. It's hard for me to tell what I'm affecting.  Is there a video tutorial  available?

Nice game, I really enjoyed the idea of the strategy game being played on a board that you can look up at the other players from!

Submitted(+1)

Woah! This was amazing! Very ambitious!

Great take on board-rts battler?(Can't really pin point the genre hehe), love how the camera pans for the menus and the idea in itself, very innovative!

Took me a while to get into the gameplay, but I think I figured it out after a short while :)

The game plays very nice and there is something there for sure. However there should be more tutorial / feedback what is happening. I hit the unit limit very quickly but I felt there was no way to have my units attack the opposing players. I also created a cart but I never saw it or noticed anything different. From the screenshots it looks like the cart should move across the map to collect stuff?

Either way, the game looks great and I love the table top feeling enhanced by the players around the table. Very well done for a game jam !

Developer

I have already started working on improvements to the tutorial and feedback for now here are some tips.

-Every unit you can move has a banner you can pick up (hold left mouse).

-The cart spawns at the player base and needs to be moved to any of the grey tiles and when there is a yellow cart icon on it you gain a point and a special building.

The game definitely needs some improvements though.

A little bit of a learning curve but I think I figured it out. Very fun to play! Only thing that I was still confused about was how my enemies kept getting more points without farms? Overall great work!

Developer(+1)

Thanks. they do their own thing with their own rules. I thought it would be too hard to implement a complex ai.

Played for about an hour, it's so satisfying to build the kingdom organically, with no grid. Very challenging game, would love to play a more polished version!

I love strategy games like this (I made a strategy game of sorts myself hehe). It was difficult to position my armies around, because I kept clicking on the farm buildings and such, but overall it was a fun experience. I love the feeling of growing my little kingdom and dominating the board.

Submitted(+1)

I played like 20 minutes and still don't know what is happening around the board 😅

The overall feel is good, but needs more cues and hints about outputs and outcomes. The art is nice and fits well, but I would have loved to understand exactly what I was doing.

Nice entry anyway!

Submitted(+1)

Not sure if I really figured what I was doing but I wasn't loosing :) Will have to play at least one more time latter.

Would love if I could also turn camera to the left and right.

Developer

The original plan was to turn the camera left and right, but it didn't work properly and I couldn't figure out how to fix it.

Submitted(+1)

Very ambitious game. I like the tabletop coupled with low poly art style you've got going.

As other comments have mentioned, it is hard to tell what is going on. If you plan on working on this more, I'd suggest adding in tooltips and some VFX/SFX for some common interactions e.g. fighting.

All that said, I did find it compelling to play. Keep going!

Submitted(+1)

I struggled to understand what to do, maybe the game could benefit with a tutorial. Strategy games tend to be quite complex for starting players.

Developer

The sad thing is it would maybe only take me an hour to implement a tutorial, but I can't edit my submission until the jam is over.

Submitted(+1)

I kind of understood what I'm doing, but really struggling to understand still what I'm trying to get cycling for a stronger economy.

Developer

Basically, just trying to get more points than you're losing. Or build more farms that works to.

Submitted(+1)

That's a nice little game! I like having two fictionnal partners in front of me accross the table, it gives the game a quite unique atmosphere.
