The art was nice on this game. The concept was interesting. I think you may have over used the spikes and I had an issue where you could jump to get off the spikes if you ran to the top of the spike. That made it had for me to get out of the spike pits. Then when you died in these pits it respawned you in the spikes. This was a feel bad for me. I would think about making sure you don't respawn on a hazard block.  I felt like my attack was a bit slow, I would could hit then kill the squirrel. There are several strong elements to your game, so keep at it.

Thanks so much for the feedback!  This was our first game jam and our first time working together on a project so we were just happy to get it playable in time for submission. I definitely had some bigger dreams for the game that would have balanced the content load a bit and eased our level design process that we just didn't have the time to implement. Thanks again!

Fun game,  the acorn respawn was very creative, the end music had distinct Terraria vibes :)  Please rate our game if you would like :)  https://itch.io/jam/gamedevtv-jam-2022/rate/1554224#post-5960926

Loved it! Really liked the animation of the tree spawning a new acorn. The squirrels remind me of guys in mascot costumes. Great job!

Cute little game. I love how you took "death is only the beginning" and wove it into the acorn turning into a tree and spawning another acorn for the player to continue.  The animation was very nice!

Developer

Thanks so much for playing! I really enjoyed making the animations for this game!!

I absolutely love the animation that plays when the player dies and creates a tree to be reborn from. I was so surprised when I saw it! And I really appreciate how dying doesn't send you back. Instead, you respawn in the same location. Also noticed that parallax background! Nice work ^-^

really cute game and one of the only platformer-type ones I actually made it to the end of! I almost got stuck on one jump where you had to squeeze in that tight spot before getting to the beach environment, but ultimately made it :)

Developer

Thanks so much for taking the time to play it, This is my first time animating a game. I've been absolutely thrilled with all the positive feedback on the respawn animation <3

Great game. Would've liked to see some damage feedback when getting hit but got some strong VVVVV vibes from the platforms.

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! We originally had a knockback effect in addition to the damaged animation but it proved to be too buggy to include in the build so we patched it out.

Submitted(+1)

Yeah I can definitely see that might be problematic. There's some spotty detection on the spikes but honestly it's a good game and the respawn mechanic is hilarious.

Great work, I liked the theme of the game a lot, but the squirrels were tidbit too creepy :D

Developer(+1)

Thank you! That is the goal of that design. : D

Nicely put together, not perfect in areas already mentioned. But good job on getting beginning to end :)

I thought the art was great. I see people were talking about the teleportation. I don't know if it was a glitch but at one point the spikes just didn't kill anymore. But I really liked the animation when you die. You sprout again. I thought that was fun

I love the art, especially how the acorn respawns. Very beautiful. Unfortunately there seems to be some bugs that make the character teleport around too much.  The concept is great. Nice attempt.

Developer

Thanks so much for your kind words. I handled most of the art and my partner built most of the mechanics. He is looking into a hotfix for the unexpected trips to space haha, hopefully he can track it down. We had a great time working on it!

Developer

As my co-creator of The Mighty Oak said, I have added a hotfix to prevent the teleportation around the area. So far, it has been working on my end. Hopefully, that goes the same for everyone else.

Great animation and overall feel. Echoing on the others I was teleporting around and didnt quite understand why? But over all a very great submission!

Developer

Thanks for trying it, I patched most of the bugs today if you'd like to try again. Thanks again

I think its a great idea and love the art but I had a lot of trouble with the movement mechanics. I felt like I was teleporting around a lot and I wasn't sure why.

Submitted(+1)

I do like the concept. Some guidance on what the pickups do would be helpful, and the movement is a bit...like a squirrel on red bull. lol

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for the feedback! I had intended to include an explanation on the ui/powerups but due to the time constraints didn't get to it. I'll be iterating over this project after the game jam, who knows where it will end up?

Developer(+1)

I added an explanation on the intro screen just for you on the version I just patched

Submitted(+2)

I loved the animation when you die xDD

Developer

Thanks so much! I'm a very new animator

Submitted(+1)

Very cute!

Had the same sort of issues as MarciFul commented but with more time and polish I could see this being a very fun platformer/metroidvania type with a powerful uplifting story behind it!

Great work!

Developer

I love metroidvania games! You may be on to something there...

I conquered death and became the mighty oak! Really nice game great art, animations and mechanics. Although dying was very disorientating and sometimes I became unkillable which was strange and maybe I missed it but I didn't understand some objects I could maybe collect? also a volume slider would be great.

Fantastic work though keep it up!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! There is definitely some polishing to be done haha. Thanks so much for trying it out~!

Developer

I patched it today and think it's quite a bit better. Thanks again for trying it!
