This was really cool and looked awesome, really well put together. great job!
I was expecting confetti 0/5 on everything :D
Quite a fun game, and in a week, everything from scratch is mental... How the hell did you manage that?? :D
Artwork was very good, music worked well and I liked that it went lower when you peaked over/etc, this and some very good other little touches made the game feel so complete. I liked also the crab looking at the door when mom was close, nice little touch!
Second or third playthrough I managed to win, but I didn't really understand when I could win until I had managed to collect the 20 or so crabs (maybe it was in the tutorial, but I missed it, so many things going on in the screen there :D) I liked the infomercial kind of style though on that! It could make some people stop playing since they just think there is no ending (although the door was suggesting that)
I did have one issue though, because the walls can be walked through, I managed on my first game play walk miiiileeees away, while I was just learning to play and kept peeking around and then I thought the game had bugged out or something since where ever I walked it was just the same looking background, so maybe some kind of boundaries (or if there were a lot smaller, so with one turn you could pretty much see the play area again).
Overall a great game!
Thanks for the detailed review! I did the development in Unity and it was pretty tough getting 2 games done along with all the functionality of things you don't think about until they're necessary (menus & player QOL). All of us in the team really did put in a lot of effort, so glad that it paid off!
As for the 2D game bounds, there was a bug with the edge colliders seemingly working sometimes on some angles and because of lack of time + the crab game being my first ever 2D game I wasn't able to find a good solution.
There's definitely a ton we would still like to polish and add but for the time frame we're all pretty proud of what we got done and I'm happy to hear you enjoyed it! Cheers!
Like the concept, similar to this game. The art was good, the gameplay was smooth, and the music is enjoyable which all combined into one solid game. First try, I was confused because I got out of the boundary and waited for Mom to come but to no avail, she never came. Play for the second playthrough and managed to break the lock, but alas, there's no confetti.
Shorting the interval when mom coming would be great. Encountering a bug where when the crab collide with the left boundary, the camera when away when the crab's stuck. Can't help, its a jams thing. Good game!
Really cool game and concept! At first I didn't notice the "mom-sensing technology" but when I found out what that is it made me chuckle. Really good game!
Thank you for playing! Glad you had fun! :)
Amazing. Great concept and very polished. Probably one of my favourite games I've rated this jam.
Thank you so much! We're really happy you enjoyed it!
the presentation of the "real world" is spot on, with mom standing in the door as a shadowy outline - really good. I found hiding a constantly moving game without a pause button away from my sight was a bit stressful, eventhough I understand, that's the challenge of the game.
I'm sorry it took so long for me to get to this one, I saw it advertised plenty of times in the discord server.
A very nice blend between a regular game and a meta aspect, the ability to sense the approach by watching the crab eyes was extremely useful! I did get grounded the first time by choosing to ignore them, but succeeded on the second attempt, even if there was no confetti waiting for me. 🎊
It's clear a lot of care went into the design of the bedroom, though I focused so much on the 2D game that I only looked it over once while waiting for mom to stop her patrol. The intro/tutorial was also fun to watch, a great immersive touch!
Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed it! The game could use some more balancing and polish so both the 2D and 3D aspects would be better utilized, but I'm happy you got at least one good look at the bedroom! I had a lot of fun and put a lot of effort into making it look good and immersive. The rest of the team did a lot of good work too, and I agree that the intro video was great!
This Game is AWSOME but because i have a potato it ran on like 10 fps
Thank you so much! That's unfortunate though, I wish you could experience it with a stable performance. I will say that that might be partly my fault, a lot of the 3D models are not optimized at all since I had to do them in such a hurry for the jam, but maybe later versions would run better for you after I bring the polycount down! Also other general performance optimizations and options would help, we tried to keep it as smooth as we could but you know how game jams go lol
Jesus the amount of work that you had on this game! It's really solid! And the assets are amazing. I just wish that the background of the crabby game changed. Because I reached a part when it was all grey and I couldn't even understand if the crab was moving or not, needless to say, that I couldn't find any crab in 10 minutes of gameplay :P Other than that it was a great game!
Thank you so much! I did the 3D stuff on this and it was my first time doing fully-fledged models for a game, it really was a ton of work, but it's great to hear that it was worth it in the end! I'll post some of the assets later on my Sketchfab account, maybe make some of them freely available!
About the 2D game's background, I think I know what might have happened... The 2D game's map's boundaries are pretty broken in this build, so you can very easily clip through the walls, ignoring the collision. Outside of the walls is just a black void, so you might have just clipped through and was stuck moving outside forever. Really unfortunate, but it happens on jams! Thank you for playing though!
Oh yeah for sure it was that that happened! Thanks for letting me know :) Keep it up the good work!
Holy cow this game is the bees knees! I had a lot of fun, besides laughing at the Crabtendo and the art and goofs around the room and the crab game, I absolutely loved it! I did find the music a bit annoying but I think it fit the theme of knockoff with the crabtendo. I think you and your team did an excellent job! I cannot wait to see more of what you do! My only real critique is that in a few games, I didnt have the mom show up once before beating the crabtendo. IDK if that means just dumb luck but I did enjoy it!
Thank you so much for the kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed the game! We worked really hard on it and we're happy to see people playing it! About the mom, her movement behaviour is somewhat randomized, so it is very possible that you just got lucky on a few runs. The 2D game is also pretty short so it is very feasible to complete it without and mom encounters if you're lucky enough. Future versions would definitely see tweaks to both systems!
Also, thanks for the follow! We have some other jam projects on my profile that you may like, and we've got plenty of plans for the future!
This game wroth for more rate, it's a great concept that you are playing game and escape from your mom lol, it's just so fun to see this concept be implemented. However, the crab game control feeling is not that smooth, will you consider to focus on the escaping mechanics more? Anyways, just a great job!
Thank you so much for playing! The game definitely would benefit from some polishing, as is usual in game jams - we'll see what we can do after the voting period ends!
It was extremely fun! Had to play a couple of times and finally read the description to get there, but amazing work!
I was having the time of my life with over 30 crabs then mom came and bye bye game night (I skip ads, sorry). Never expected to have to watch an ad to know the game instructions, nice touch Crabtendo.
I can forgive the lack of confetti because the experience was fun, although an option to play again would be cool.
Thank you so much for playing! We wished we had a little bit more time for polishing it too, but that's just how game jams go I suppose! We'll see what we can do after the voting period ends!
OMG MoOOoom! Could you knock?!!
Great idea. Children everywhere should be empowered with this technology. Contact Nintendo. Reject modernity, return to crab 🦀
All hail the gaming crab overlords 🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀
This game is really funny. The intro video was fun and I love the aesthetics in general. Managed to beat it before mom came in on one run, and I don't think I ever successfully hid it from her on my previous runs, but in any case, that was a fun few minutes. Nice work!
Thank you for playing!
What? I did not expect this to be this good!! I love the intro at the start, I had a good laugh. I can't help but feel the FNAF vibes from this. This can become a seriously good horror game :D One of the underrated gems of the jam!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the game! We'll see what happens after the voting period ends 👀
The menu was a bit buggy. It did not feel very responsive. I was able to get the game to launch finally. It was nice little game. I think I got like 12 crabs in a row. It played very nice once I got into the game. I did like the intro video was very cool idea. The menu definitely needs some love you may not get many people to play if they struggle at the menu.
Thank you for playing! The menu was indeed a bit rushed and has some issues, could you elaborate a bit on what problems you had with it so we can fix it on later versions? What screen resolution did you play on?
I am using dual monitors on Win 10 at 1920 x 1080. I am running an nvidia GTX 760 with 8 GB. I hope that can help.
Thank you! We'll look into it.
Really neat idea and a clever use of the theme! The concept is very relatable, brings back memories of my childhood, lol! Your team did a good job.
Thank you so much for playing, glad you had fun!
I'm not sure if my monitor is the wrong resolution to play this, but I couldn't figure out a way to start the game. It just keeps playing the advert/intro and I don't see any other buttons. My resolution is 3440x1440
ah maybe the canvas scaling of the video is off. If you hold space bar for 5+ seconds it should close the tutorial video and show you the menu
I like the tension between the mom meta mechanic and the crab game that you cannot pause. Well pulled off. I would have liked to have been able to hear mom's footsteps as she walks by the door in the hallway. Also, it would have been great to have her scold you when she catches you. Great idea!
I need more ratings, so if you happen to have the time, would you please check out my entry? It's a rage platformer that is playable in browser! Thank you!
Hey thanks! just left you a rating :)
