Really nice. Nice mechanics, game feel, simple AI made me thinking abou strategies. Well done.

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot for playing and leaving a nice review!

Actually, AI is something I really need to study more in the future. This is my first game with an actual AI and it was quite overwhelming sometimes so I was able to implement only a very simple AI.

Submitted

Sadly I couldn't play. The screen just goes black for me

Developer

Hmm, sorry to hear that.

Have you had problems with other Unity WebGL games (most of the games submitted to this game jam are Unity WebGL) or is it just mine that doesn't work?

Submitted

I just realized it could be the Itch.io app. I'll try again on Chrome

Haha, love the "Drunken Sailor" music themes! Very clean execution, satisfying hits and mechanics. Great work!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot for playing and leaving a nice review!

Yeah, I was really happy finding the song on opengameart.org, I didn't expect to find anything this cool :-)

Very fun and addicting package.  The ship combat and effects were satisfying. I was always so tempted to go out and explore, but knew my duty as a pirate was to take down the pesky do-gooders.

Developer

Thanks a lot! Actually, there is a lack of things to explore, that's why the enemies are so aggressive and force you to stay near the base :-D

Very nice game. I really like the move and the shoot system. Music is awesome!

Developer

Thanks a lot for playing and leaving a very kind review.

Great art style and music. I love pirate games. Thanks for submitting!

Developer

Thanks a lot for playing! Can't take too much credit for the art, that's all Kenney's assets and the music is also publicly available :-)

I'm definitely a sucker for a good pirate themed game probably stretching back to my love of the Monkey Island games and I really enjoyed this one!

Really cool enemy AI I felt like the ships were very alive and responsive to what I was doing.

The sound effects were excellent, especially those juicy cannon shots, nice work!

The visuals were fun and laid back and overall I just had a relaxing time playing this game even though the combat can be quite intense.

Excellent work!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot for the great feedback, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Man, I love Monkey Island as well, I even played it so young that I didn't understand what I was doing at all but it was still fun :-D

This is more of an original Port Royale combat inspired but we need more good pirates games definitely!

Nice little game! The only thing that felt off to me was that the cannon balls took some direction from the ship's velocity. Took some getting used to. Love the music!!! Drunken Sailor is one of my favorite sea shanties.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed it!

Believe me, it looked really weird when they didn't take the ship's velocity :-D

Yeah, I was so happy when I found the Drunken Sailor on opengameart.org and realized it's not sitting under any license :-)

Ahoy m8tey! We pirates must stick together.

Nice that I have 3 cannons and the others just one. Very heavy sound effects, strong bass.

Story works, mechanics are fun. EXPLOSIONS!

Well done!

Developer

Ahoy! Arrrr, thanks for playing!

Glad that you like the explosions, this is the first time I used Bloom Post Processing but it's not that visible in day scenes :-D

Really great game, with a lot of polish well done!

Developer

Thanks a lot! I really went for simple mechanics and polish this time so great it shows! :-)

Great game and theme, it reminds me of the old PopCap games it was really fun playing it. It took us some time to figure out the controls 😅(we used a keyboard)

Developer

Thanks a lot for playing and I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Yeah, I'm not so happy with the keyboard controls as well, always hated when games used arrows for something other than movement but it just seemed logical for the cannons and couldn't think of better keys :-D

Submitted(+1)

Great game and theme, reminds me of the ship battles in Sid Mier's Pirates!  My favorite submission in the Jam

Developer(+1)

Wow, thanks a lot, didn't really expect this much praise :-) I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I was actually going for the combat of the original Port Royale but I suppose these two games have some very similar concepts, now I'll have to play Sid Meier's Pirates!

Submitted(+1)

Haha nice! Like it, and the music too. Though its a bit unfair that the enemies can just shoot forward haha.

Developer

Thanks a lot for playing!

The enemy shooting was sadly caused by my lack of experience with enemy AI behaviour. It would be very hard for me to make the AI target you from their sides. But it showed me that I really need to work on my game AI skills so at least I have something new to study :-)

Submitted(+1)

Great game! Loved the theme. Somewhat tricky to remember witch button to push to fire the correct kanons when turing around. Outside of that it was awsome!

Developer

Thanks! Yeah, next time I'm gonna work more on the controls. When you play it for the millionth time when testing you get used to anything :-D

Submitted(+1)

Loved the controls. So simple yet so satisfying. Great job on song choice as well.

Developer

Thanks for playing and leaving feedback! Nice to see someone actually liking the controls but I understand it can be hard for people who haven't spent much time playing GTA 1 or 2 :-D

Submitted(+1)

Took my brain a little bit to figure out which cannons to shoot! Fun lil game you got here mate :)

Developer

Thanks for playing, yeah, it takes a while to get used to, or you can just shoot both all the time :-D

Submitted(+1)

Good graphic style and gameplay. Nice!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you! Can't really take much credit for the graphics, that's all Kenney, I only added the bloom for explosions :-D

Submitted(+1)

Very cool and understandable game. I found the arrow control a bit weird, but it looks great nonetheless. Always loved kenney's assets.

Sounds, effects - super!

Developer

Thank you very much for the nice feedback. Yeah, the arrow control for shooting needs some getting used to but shooting all cannons at once was weird. It's a little better with a gamepad, the triggers just feel right for shooting :-)

Submitted(+1)

This is a very simple game, but it's fun and has a lot of potential to be expanded on!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot for playing the game and leaving a very nice review, I'm glad you liked it! :-)

I have a little issue, for some reason my key inputs are not registered that well, so movement was not flawless.
Other than that the vibe is great, the idea is also very interesting. Nice work!
(About the key input issue, it would need more testing to know what caused it.)

Developer

Thanks a lot for the feedback, I'm glad you liked it even though the input was acting weird. I will try looking into it but not sure what could cause it. There is nothing crazy happening with the inputs, just using very basic implementation of Unity InputSystem.
