Mom thought the health bar was a skirt. We explained it to her but she still wanted to believe it was a skirt.

Nice submission, congrats! I liked the fast pace it takes.

Nice little game :) Not a huge fan of the 8bit music but eh, that's just personal taste.  Weapon balance is off tho, but beside that I really enjoyed this.

What i liked:
- Good visual, minimalistic, but readable

- Nice music, enjoyable, but not distracting. Sounds like it's 90-s again! =D

-Fast gameplay, idea of including player avatar, that can perform in fight allow avoid this "okay, i placed towers, now i'm gonna get a cup of tea" moment

What seems not finished:

-A bit disbalance in weapon. When first and second (1 bullet, 3 bullet) guns feels like they are doing nothing, cannon from robots on two turrets leads to automatic win. Flowers are feels to strong - you just can't leave the spawn, if there are more than 3-4 of them

-Map logics. Mostly all right, but one of the maps (8 or 9) have two spawns in different corners, in early game, when turrets cant do anything, it provides unavoidable damage - you just cant be in two places

-Maps themselfs. A bit more variants of background would be nice.

-Weapon sprites hoardes on the floor, making picking once specifict almost impossible.

Finally, good and, mostly important, enjoyable game, providing a bit challenge. Awesome work!

Thanks for the detailed feedback! We appreciate it <3

This game is really cool, I love the art! The sprites are really well done and I really enjoyed the little dialogue where the character gave me some information. The gameplay was pretty fun, but I agree with the feedback that the sword is very powerful and I did not have much reason to use another weapon. Maybe if weapons broke/ran out of ammo, then I would have more reason to pick up weapons from the ground. Overall great concept, really charming game and great work!

Developer

Thank you! Yeah, when I was playtesting I was losing when only using the sword so yeah haha that’s why I thought it was good enough

I usually play video games dreading that one (or sometimes more than one) "defend" mission. But in this case, I actually had a lot of fun!

My first piece of feedback is about the weapons. You added a good variety of them, but there might as well have only been one weapon: the sword. All of the other weapons had a slow fire rate and hardly did any damage compared to the sword. The sword lacked an attack animation but it did seem like I could attack almost as fast as I could press space. After I had noted the enemy spawn locations, I could simply stand slightly out of the way and spam attack my way to victory.

I also noted that bullets and enemies on average did hardly any damage to the player. However, the bullets moved far too fast for a bullet hell game as they are unreasonably fast to dodge. This meant I could continue my spawncamping spree without much of a fear of death (at least from the weaker enemies).

The difficulty curve seemed very strange as while the first few levels were over before it had all begun, level 5 and beyond seemed to have overwhelming amounts of enemies coming from all directions, making it much harder to clear.  I ended up at level 6 where my skills gave way and I couldn't progress any further due to too many enemies being present at once.

Finally, I wanted to mention your tutorial. The game's mechanics were indeed explained, but I didn't note anything the tutorial said as I never had a chance to practice before the next piece of information was given to me. I would recommend a dedicated tutorial level for this, so that I could make sure that I understood each part of the game before moving on to the next one.

On the positive side, the graphics while lacking in animations were very well done and the music was very fitting. And I'm impressed by how much I got out of a game based on one of my most hated game missions.

I think that with a little more balancing and a slower pace tutorial, you might have me hooked! Nice work!

Thank you doggo <3

Graphics and music are very nice! Both the banner and pixel art have a lot of character!
I found the game too hard though (time between waves is too tight, ground weapons can pile up, and switching tower weapons is too complicated); Aside the balancing it is pretty cool!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! On hindsight, I should’ve made them despawn faster :P

Submitted(+1)

I ended up using the sword only since the other weapons were too weak and it made them honestly pointless since you have an AOE with the sword. So I was tanking the (a bit fast) projectiles from the enemies and when there were 2 lines of them coming in a V pattern I was waiting for them with the sword at the tip of the V to take them out with the AOE.

Other than that the character controls are smooth, the tutorial with the sprite of the hero adds a more interactive layer to the game and despite what I said earlier with the weapons balancing there is variety for that. The scope of the project (well managed it seems) allowed you to make more levels which helps a lot with replayability.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! yeah, we have a lot of balancing to do :P

Really liked the genre mash+theme combination!

Bullets were too fast, and enemies spawned in a constant stream but overall was quite fun!

Developer(+1)

Thank you :)

Awesome little fun game, well scoped xD Cool use of the theme too, love how that you could equip weapons on the towers, it is challenging and quite balanced

The controls are a little tricky sometimes, when I want to pick up a good weapon that dropped around a few other weapon, got to hit r multiple times till I get the right one, I think simple mouse click could help.. click to pickup, equip the tower…

Developer(+1)

Yeah, I’ll work on the equip mechanic post-jam :)

I realy like the game audio!!

Developer

Yeah, Eitan really got it nicely with this one - make sure to check his music out!

This was a cool idea!  Fun and challenging!  Great work! :D

Developer

Thank you! I really enjoyed your game as well :)

Fun and creative game! I loved it.

Thank you!

Oh, and the other thing is UI - I think players are pretty much distracted, at least I am, and even though I read introduction, later on I forgot that I can equip weapons to towers. Simple pop up when you are close to tower would solve that problem :D

Developer

That’s a great insight - I’ll add that to the update :)

Cant beat level 2

Developer

that’s unfortunate.. what part did you find difficult?

Submitted (1 edit)

I know what's the reason! It is almost impossible to beat it with ranged weapon, but it is kind of diffult to figure out that your sword actually does something because it doesn't have an animation : D The game is cool and simple, even though it lacks some animations etc. it feels good to play ^_^ Unluckily it has some moments when you just have to tank bullets and have no way to escape.

Developer

Thank you! Yes, don’t lose sight of your sword, it’s more powerful than almost all guns (except for the Flower)

nice cover art
the game? uh..... good?

Developer

UHHH

I really like the character design a lot but the game itself feels kinda unfair at points. I really wouldn't call it a bullet hell as the bullets move way too fast to be dodged. It'd be neat if you could equip more than 1 weapon to the tower. Maybe up to 3? It'd feel more like a fair fight if you could. Solid game though! Keep up the good work team.

Developer

Thank you!

I think manually powering up the towers with dropped weapons is neat, it reminds me of a smaller-scale arcade version of Sanctum. The difficulty (for me at least) seems to skyrocket pretty quickly.

Developer

Yeah, I’d have to adjust that post-jam. Thanks!
