Looks like had very similar takes on the theme! We even had thoughts to add endless waves and a crystal to protect in ours too. Very cool to see the path we could've taken!

I loved the art in this game; it was very cute. And having a variety of attacks to choose from was also very nice. I do wish the keys for each ability were shown in-game as well as in the directions because I kept forgetting which was the explosion attack and which was the spin attack. Players (i.e. me) are forgetful and won't remember any but most basic of controls after they navigate away from the directions haha.

Also, you made the music for this during the jam too?! That's awesome! I had just assumed it was pre-made or borrowed from somewhere else until I read some of the other comments and checked the "Did your team create the vast majority of the music" answer. It was just that good. Great submission, esp. for your first jam! Congratulations!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for the kind words! It was my first jam and creating the art was a first for me, so I am really happy you enjoyed it! I will keep in mind to add every attack into directions, as what you said makes complete sense. And yes, my friend made the song for this jam, I will let him know you liked it! I am going to check out your game right now and Ill lyk what I think :)

epic music that really makes this feel like a boss battle! i liked how there are enough abilities that all act differently, so you get to use some degree of tactical thinking while you play. fun game, although i get completely overrun by enemies around wave 5 :D

i think the normal ranged attack should maybe do some more damage, since (from what i can tell) it does the same amount as the normal melee one, but that one doesn't have a cooldown. i understand why you don't want players spamming ranged shots all the time, but it doesn't feel very satisfying to have to wait that long just to essentially do another melee hit.

loved the game though, it's always fun playing as a dragon :)

Great art style and music! I like it! It might be more addictive to play if the dragon's abilities are more powerful with less cooldown, for it is the "Legendary Cute Boss Dragon"! And this game has great potential! Something like different dragon types with their unique skills and normal attack. Hope to see the full version in the future! Nice work!

Nicely done. Gives me some opening of Final Fantasy 4 vibes.

Look so cute and nicely done! A little bit of polish and it can be as addicting as vampire survivor. Great job!

I liked the concept overall. I just wish there could be a way to demostrate how far the character claws would go, to better position myself against the waves, and that the knights gave damage to my character maybe after touching it for a few seconds, as avoiding them requires too much precision in comparison to the way the game is played, with the heroes comming from all sides. Cool game

Good music. Somewhat overused theme in this jam but good take nevertheless. Would've loved to see more juice when attacking, some particles, screen-shake maybe knockbacks.

First of all the music was quite nice. The color scheme was also quite cool. Art is also pretty nice. Is it hand-drawn? As for the gameplay, overall it's pretty enjoyable. However, it seems like the heroes keep getting stronger with each wave while the Boss character remains at the same level so death is inevitable. Would be nice if we could upgrade our characters and abilities. Overall pretty nice game :)

Developer(+1)

It is hand drawn! Also, my first attempt so I am glad you liked it. I agree with the upgrades, If I had more time I would have done that for sure.

The music is amazing! It matched really well with the gameplay. The abilities are a great touch to help kill the heroes faster, although they feel a bit difficult to use without getting hurt yourself. Also, although probably intended, they become very weak and not worth it as the game goes on. The projectile ability especially feels just completely useless. If you were to expand this I feel some upgrade/leveling system would be great and being able to heal yourself would also be good. The art style is quite charming and I actually like it quite a bit. The gameplay is overall pretty fun, maybe a different enemy type or two would help add some more variety. The game is great, good job! The music is great.

It was fun!

Though the explosion attack did not really feel like it did a whole lot on the enemies. Perhaps you could make it insta-kill the enemies but take a bit longer to charge. It would feel much better than using it on the enemies and finding out that it doesn't really help that much.

The presentation also has some room for improvement but you did great for a 48-hour game!

The gameplay is pretty good, and I think my favorite part is the music! The special attacks weren't that helpful since the all out spin attack leaves you stationary and vulnerable to attacks while not guaranteeing a hit on the soldiers, the fireball's hitbox only attacking one soldier most of the time, and the AOE explosion didn't kill all of the soldiers most of the time either. I can see the game becoming more enjoyable with some experimentation of special attack properties and different types of enemies to defend against.

Nice, the art and music really set a mood that fits together ! :D I would love to see it even more in the theme to have a reaaaaally strong dragon boss against a lot of knights. Like big spells that would clear all the map haha. Good job!

The idea has been used many times in this jam but it's still good, the special attacks add some variety wich is always welcomed

Submitted(+1)

Good game, it handles well and the special attacks add flavor to the defense.  I'd love to see another enemy type if you made another version.  Nice job!

Submitted(+1)

It has some solid mechanics, and the controls play pretty well and its pretty satisfying to clear a wave. Some form of progression or enemy variety would really spice it up. The dragon sprite is really adorable and really fits the aesthetic of the game. Nice job!

The combat feels good, the UI is easy to read, and the objective is clear. Good Job!! Also, I love the art and music

Developer

Thanks for playing it! I'll give yours a try now!

I like dragons so I had to play this!

The dragon looks adorable. I especially like the sprite animation when they turn around! looks really flashy and goofy

It would be nice if there was some form of progression in the game - I've already seen upgrades mentioned, but different enemy types over time would be neat too! maybe an archer who shoots arrows which you can also reflect, for example!

Still a really cute game. The dragon didn't deserve to get their gem destroyed, they're too cute for that!

Developer(+1)

Thanks, Im so glad you liked the dragon, it took me awhile to figure that one out haha. If I wasn't quite literally out of time towards the end of the jam, I would have added more enemies, but time just caught up to me. Also I really like your profile pic its rly cute :

The dreaded jam deadline comes for us all!

And why thank you! My icon is of my dragon character themselves! The more dragons the better, I'd say!

Nice!

Thanks for playing it live!

Very nice game! The Dragon loocks cute!

Some kind of progression with the skills (new attack after each wave, biger radius, ...) would make the feeling more fair. :)

Very nice! It’s a bit rough around the edges, but that’s to be expected for a game made in such a short time. The gameplay has a lot of depth for something this simple. Good job!

I’d love to play a version of this game with a progression system, where you’ll occasionally replenish your health, and the challenge instead comes from keeping pace with the growing power of the enemy forces that come to attack your crystal.

Developer

Thanks for the kind words! I totally agree with the changes you brought up, if I had more time I would have tried to add it but unfortunately I couldn't. Ill have to check out your game too!
