Love this game, I liked the dialogue and the spells were fun to combine.
Nice job! I loved the art and the gameplay was pretty fun! It took me a little while to understand that I was buying spells that would be applied during the next spell. I found that some powerup that caused my bullets to arc away from the enemy in a way that they would never hit.
Really fun to make over powered combos!
Fun little game! I liked the variety in all the powerups however some of them at some points made it impossible to hit the other character? Maybe I just combined them incorrectly but there were some stages where my bullets could not reach them. Other than that though it was a fun experience!
It took me a bit to understand that the spells would activate at the start of next round, but when I did I saw the potential in this idea. Very nicely presented. I would have liked if it was easier to comprehend what each spell would do before buying them. Great stuff :)
The music and graphics were very good, they fit together super well to create a beautiful game. Can't say I had the patience to read all the dialog, though. I didn't have much time to read the descriptions of the upgrades, so maybe there should be some sort of temporary pausing feature? Also, I was always dodging back and forth, never actually able to avoid the bullets, which fel a little sad. Even without these minor improvements, I really liked playing through the game!
Oh yeah, unfortunately my antivirus has detected a threat inside this game soooooo..... Be careful everyone? Might always be a false alarm, and I hope it is, just letting people know.
It’s just Game Maker being weird. It’s had a problem with exports being falsely flagged as viruses for a long time now. I’ve mentioned that this can happen in the installation instructions as well.
If you think you can’t trust it, don’t run it. I won’t be disappointed in anyone who decides that they’d rather not take any chances.
It only came up AFTER I played the game (thanks, antivirus, for nothing lol). So I still managed to play (and enjoy) the game very much. :D
Similar idea to what I had (you're the boss instead of the hero), but a VERY different execution :D
Loved the art style.
It took me a while to figure out that I needed to design the spell for the next round, as i was wondering why it didn't change actively and I'm still not sure what causes the spell to swap to the next type. Once I made something completely useless that didn't even reach the hero... whoops. :D
Solid idea!
The style of this game seem heavily inspired by Touhou, which I can appreciate, heh. I like, how you're basically trying to dodge the player and defeat them in your current round, so you can get a stronger attack next round! Makes the gameplay a bit more dynamic, I think!
There's nothing much else to add, other than that I enjoyed this simple 1-bit-ish pixel art and neat music!
Nice game really fun
I absolutely loved the game! I am a huge fan of bullet hell games and seeing one where you are basically the boss is really cool. I loved how powerful you felt when you got a lot of points and were able to get ones like radial split that really dealt a lot of damage! One critic I would have is maybe make it a little more clear that you get the powers after the timer, but I absolutely LOVED it, great job!
Incredibly fun! I love the idea of having to build your own spells, and needing the hero to be hit multiple times in a row for it to count made it a good challenge. I especially loved the art style, you did a lot with a very minimal palette! One minor suggestion would be to have the hero get some upgrades as well, changing up their weapons and forcing you to make different spells to counter that. Great job overall!
It's extremely fun to mix and match power ups and try to find best gun options. it kinda reminds me of how crazy you get in The Binding of Isaac after collecting all kinds of crazy items at once. good job!
Really fun game !
I could totally see this game as a multiplayer one, where I mess with one of my friend with a “zigzag-homing-spread” attack, to see if he can avoid it ! 🤣
The story, the art style, the gameplay, everything is so good ! Best "you are the boss" game i have played in this jam, and by far ! The power up system is so satisfaying. The choice of colors is perfect, and i know what i mean *wink*
You deserve a very good rank in this jam, keep on the good work !
Nice gameplay !! I loved seeing projectiles everywhere
the instructions was a bit unclear, and i honestly still don't know if the health system was for the player or the enemy (guessing it's for the enemy). but i liked the different kind of attacks and stuff you could buy on the side.
I absolutely love the gameplay! This is definitely my favourite take on the idea of "being the boss". And i see that we both were sort of going for the same artstyle and aesthetics. Good job!
Awesome gameplay!! I had so much fun picking out the upgrades. Would love to see this as a full game!
The only thing I had trouble with was that the tutorial was a bit unclear on how to defeat the protagonist, so for the first half of the game I was just confused on how the health system works. I was also a bit confused on how the timer and upgrade system worked, but I figured it out halfway into the game.
Great job! Would appreciate it if you checked out my team's submission too, which is a role reversal where you're the boss battle too but in a different way :D
The visuals were excellent and the framing was very cute! It wasn't super clear to me if I was winning though, I brought the player to zero health multiple times (I think?) but she didn't seem to die. I'm not sure what I was doing wrong.
The player has two resources: lives and bombs. If the player has no more bombs to blow up your attack with, they’re hit and lose a life. The player had 3 bombs for every life, and 5 extra lives. That means you need to hit them 24 times in total (not counting shield hits) to win the game.
I guess it could have used some more explanation. I’ll probably work on including a full tutorial in the next version.
