Really cool game! The part where you must fall in-between the mushrooms was quite fun

Submitted

The ending made me laugh out loud. Nice work!

Art is so cute! Gameplay was fun, and I found it particularly funny that the Lil' Menace jump sounds sound like a big dude! Very nice!

Submitted

fun cute little platformer, reminded me a bit of the original toy story game. didnt expect the mark photo jumpscare at the end (no offense to mark)

Developer

Haha glad you enjoyed! Never played the Toy Story game!

Submitted

I love Lil' Menace and will protect them at all costs!! Cute game with a lot of interesting platform mechanics.

Developer(+1)

Awe glad you had fun! We love our Lil' Menace too!

Submitted

Super cute lil' dude! Love that you can reset the level and it keeps the items in place, very clever mechanic.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I came up with that bit on a whim but didn't have enough time to make a bunch more puzzles around it!

Submitted

This game has a lot of potential, the style is cute when it’s to scale, (mushrooms and main character) but everything else has horrible aliasing artifacts and sometimes a movable block or two will just disappear on a reset.

Developer

YOU ENCOUNTERED THE MYTHICAL GLITCH!!!

That happened ONCE the night before submission when my roommate tested the game... but was FULLY unrepeatable. We COULD NOT get it to happen again and I still have ZERO idea what could cause it!

Submitted (1 edit)

That game was pretty good no doubt, the flow of the game was pretty straightforward, the ending caught me by surprise haha

Developer

Hahah yea we were trying to find some way to show off that we had intended the Big Guy that Lil' Menace was messing with was Mark! Had to resort to just you scampering into his hair at the end!

Submitted

Im so glad I stuck with this game despite getting stuck on the first salt, the ending genuinely made me laugh out loud. Asides from that, the platforming post the tutorial was great, really had to focus up and I loved the designs of it!
I also love the main character:

I'll do near anything for you, Lil' Menace

Developer

Yeah that first salt has confused a couple playtesters, I should have made it a bit easier I think! And glad you laughed at the end! The concept was "Lil guy messes with big guy" but we ran out of time to really put in the stuff we wanted to show that would display that the Big Guy was Mark you were messing with, so we stuck his head in at the end! LOL

Glad you loved our lil' menace! I think our artist did an amazing job on them! PLUS YOUR ART OF IT IS SO GOOD OMG YES THANK YOU <3

Submitted

Love the cute little guy. A new addition to my cat-based game collection. Definitely challenging in several level but if I get to watch this lil menace for even longer time, it's really fine. Good job for this game! :)

Developer

Thanks! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed our cute cat, especially since every other game our team proposes has a cat as the main character (we didn't even do that for this project, the artist was someone outside our team and just was like... huh. Ok. Cat.)

Submitted

The character is soooooo cute, love the art style, and the game experience is also great, nice work : )

Developer

I'm glad you enjoyed it! I do love what our artist did here! And I'm glad the gameplay was fun too!

Submitted

Challenging platformer. I definitely did not get stuck too long on that area where I needed to fall through the mushrooms lol. Great job with the game!

Developer(+1)

You didn't? Darn I should reverse the nerfs I gave to it then... hahaha I love my lil' mushroom hell! Figured it'd be a fun way to reverse the idea of platforming!

I liked the movement and level design. The graphics were pretty good too, but it looked weird when they got stretched. I also love Marks face at the end lol

Developer(+1)

Awe thanks for the feedback! I worked pretty hard on the level design, which was my main focus for the jam tbh... it took up like 2 days of the jam, which was maybe way too much time honestly. There were some weirdness with the graphics we used but I think those got mostly solved in 2nd/3rd level... save a few haha.

Submitted

Nice game! Got through to the end to find Mark’s face :D The level design was fairly nice, and I like the reset idea that the tutorial created, even if that idea wasn’t utilized again thereafter.

Suggestions for improvement:

  • The stretched art assets felt a bit jarring sometimes.
  • The camera’s movement makes the player jittery when walking horizontally.
  • I think pushing things could be a bit quicker.
Developer(+1)

I appreciate the feedback! I made that puzzle in the first level and realized that, while it worked on paper it did not work in game... so I uh... Made the reset mechanic not actually reset you, so that my one puzzle could work LOL. We were trying to bring it back for level 3 but we were running out of time, we basically finished the 3rd level at the end of the time period so!

I appreciate your feedback as well! I'm trying to find out what's causing the jittery camera cause I haven't gotten that to replicate yet on the machines I have available to me... but it's being talked about enough it must exist! LOL I think it might do with the new addon we tried, or maybe something to do with godot export? I dunno!

Submitted

Cute game with solid platforming! The art looks good, and the level design is decent. I didn't encounter any bugs or softlocks, which was nice. The player looked pretty jittery when moving, which I suspect is because physics interpolation wasn't enabled, so that should be an easy fix.

Developer(+1)

I wish it was that simple! I'll take a look to see if there's a setting there for that, but this camera system we used was an addon for godot! So I didn't write any code for it... I'll have to see if there are any pieces of documentation online, but honestly probably won't use this camera addon again since the documentation I did find was so sparse!

I was also VERY on top of avoiding softlocks haha. Everything is at least just barely passable without a softlock, and the checkpoints are around to ensure if you do get one you don't suffer.

There are 2 bugs I know of right now (other than camera issues) which is, in the first level while pushing a block, if you do so slowly enough  and from another block such that you fall while doing so, you can get stuck between the blocks and not be able to push either (but reset fixes this... although there was a secondary bug where you could somehow delete a block while resetting like that...? We saw it once and never again. No idea what caused it)

The 2nd was actually probably seen by you in your time playing, which is if you push a block while falling from something you basically ignore the weight of it and push it with infinite mass. It's really weird, but wasn't game breaking so I left it haha

Submitted

I love the main character, so adorable! The mechanic with checkpoints is certainly interesting and works really well! However, I got stuck a few times trying to push some blocks which didn't feel too great. Overall, really cool game!

Developer

I'm glad you liked the checkpoint mechanic! I really wish we had more time to implement that!

Solid platformer! Liked the sounds and music. Navigating down past the mushrooms was definitely a fun challenge. Not sure if it was because I was playing in the browser, but the character seemed to get blurry when I started moving, which didn't seem right.

Developer

I'm sure our sound peeps will be very happy to hear that! They worked super hard on those and did an amazing job with it in my humble opinion!

Sorry to hear about the blurry issue! Seems like there is some lingering camera issues :/

Submitted

Cute little platformer with cute cat. Needs some more polish but overall experience was good. Great work

Developer

I'm glad you enjoyed it! We love our cute lil' cat

The gameplay was okay, but I feel like the style could be improved a lot. I really like the main design for the character and sprites for them, but everything else just felt really out of place. It's important to make sure all the assets look right together, and also in my experience it is generally a lot better to make different sprites rather than scale down existing ones. I'm guessing that a lot of the art was taken from asset packs so I'm willing to give it a pass, but in future games please give more time to the style/presentation of the game.

As a side note, it's a generally good idea for indie platformers to have some sort of main mechanic or gimmick that isn't seen anywhere else, even something small could make the game feel more special.

I really hope you revisit this game however as I feel like it could become something special, and it can definitely be improved from what it is now!

Developer(+1)

Appreciate the feedback! Yeah there was some miscommunication between the team and the artist who was helping us out! That was fully on me, I wasn't aware they were working on several jam projects at once so the art they gave us was mostly from asset packs which led to resizing. That being said they did make the art for the character and several of the pieces we used in the kitchen, and I do love the work they did with all that!

I was thinking the same thing about the lack of "uniqueness" in regards to this project, but figured it was a good experience to focus more on basic level design so we kept the mechanics simple. There were a few things that were scrapped that would have helped (a windbox effect due to heat/fans that are big compared to the Lil' Guy, and floating dust particles that I wanted to make as disappearing platforms. Putting those two together might have been interesting) but I think what we did get out there in the time was simple but good!

Submitted(+1)

Cute, but I got stuck in the salt, haha!
Shame on me

Developer(+1)

Glad you didn't get... salty! Haha

I tried my best to avoid any softlocks, hopefully I didn't miss one!
