How does your game fit the theme?
you start as a small cell and evolve over time (from very, very tiny scale to big scale) it's basically how evolution "built" organisms to scale them up.

When I first heard the theme I really wanted someone to do the Spore cell stage again. Such a fond memory, and this takes the aspects of that (and agar.io as you pointed out) and makes something beautiful and unique.
Despite seeming simple, it drew me in and I played right to the end which is as long or longer than any other game has managed to keep me playing. And that's not just the visuals, music or commentary - the design is subtle but clean. Having the largest creatures on screen be lethal to your own predators, but not to you, gives a nice layer of tactics, and yet their visual presence still makes them scary. Hitboxes were friendly, and it was clear who were your prey or predators. Only real thing (though I didn't need it) is having a respawn system that starts you at the same stage you died at
One word: SUBLIME.
Please don't listen to any comments telling you to ramp up the action or anything like that. If anything, I got disheartened to die mid-way and not be able to see the end... Maybe you could make a restart at the same life stage?
I chuckled at "Siona" bacteria. Very good job!
i love these types of games and this is a great!! seeing the bigger fish above me interacting with each other was such a great touch too for making the ocean feel alive :]]
I was impressed with how many levels up you were able to do. Obviously, not the most original or engaging gameplay ever but it's probably the game genre that most people think of with this game jam and it is done really well here. Werner Her...I mean unbedenklich's narration was very fun. The control on each creature being subtly more interesting is great. Nicholas Palmer's music is one of the only good ambient tracks I have heard so far in this jam. Nice all around.
Really amazing game. While the concept of eating smaller things has been explored in other games, the art style and narration put it above the rest of them. I just wish it had kept going, maybe your evolution could be random and eventually you evolve to live on land.
Thanks, yeah initially we planed to have water -> land -> sky -> space and the end goal is to eat the galaxy or something like that, obviously a tiny bit too ambitious for a four day jam ;) but we'll update for sure
I really enjoyed playing this. Found myself tapping A and D to move more like a fish because the animation was so smooth. Loved the voiceover too, great job!
Thank you, yeah I'm playing like that too :)
Reminds me of Spore Cell Stage! Good job :) Feel free to check out my submission too if you have the time!
I was about to get eaten by a fish and then a bigger fish ate it. So cool
Enjoyed the game. Spore was my favorite game growing up so this brought back some nostalgia. Dying was a bit punishing but it was very easy to avoid.
Nice gameplay and concept! Love the animations!
SOOOOOOO GOOD GAME!
I LOVE this game! Reminds me a lot of the first stage of Spore. The combination of the piano and soothing narrator make for a really calming, unique experience. I love how you can always see the next stage of fish even tho they can't interact with you. Makes for a very clear progression. I also really appreciate how each stage becomes more agile. The fact that there's a bit of education sprinkled in is really nice as well.
Plus the art and animations are absolutely perfect. Really wonderful job. 5/5 for sure
Nice implementation! cool animations and style.
the narrator: 🪴🤗🍃
the sea: 🔪☠️🩸
excellent entry!
very relaxing and educative, a true piece of art! 5/5
the best part is that bigger fish can eat my predators and are therefore safe to be around.
it is very hard to find improvement areas, but here are some:
- make the background more blue as the game progresses because the ocean is clearer.
- make bigger fish, that wont eat you, more transparent, almost invisible (almost had a heart attack when i saw a fish).
- make a small death animation? maybe rapdly shrink eaten organisms?
- small speed adjustment to make the game a little faster? at least for my taste
Thank you for the feedback, changing the background somehow as you evolve is on our todo list, the death animation is there it's just very subtle (random half-transparent spheres are spawned when an organism dies) we'll have to figure out how to make that more visible.
For speed we were planning to have a slowly recharging boost that you can use (should make it a bit more challenging as well).
The heart attack is on purpose ;)
I needed this. It was relaxing (even when a larger creature was on my tail). I liked the fluid movements of the fish.
LMAO Looks like we got inspired by the same youtube video. Thankfully our growth mechanic differs :D
Also narration 10/10
Reminds me Spore, loved this game! It is a pity you cannot repeat from the moment you die. Because I got spawn killed by the bigger fish XD
Great Idea, love the aesthetics, very peaceful!
Really elegant and Zen experience, well done!
Love the animation and voice over. So smooth and relaxing. Also great ending very appropriate :D
