How does your game fit the theme?
AstRollnaut is a game all about speed, movement, and most importantly chance! We aim to showcase the theme "Roll of the Dice" via 2 methods; Physical Chance Dice scattered through the level that the player needs to pickup to explore further through the stage, and through the random effects a dice can give the player. The results of the roll can be positive, negative, or neutral, and you won't know which until you take a chance and "Roll the Dice"!

Cute little speed-runner. Definitely could have used a bit more time at least on beginning levels.
Great!
Controlling the character feels great! Was a cool feeling deciding whether to gamble on a dice or not. Looks great as well!
The character on this game is so fluid is unbeleivible. The movement and the anamation as well as the sfx are astounding, along with the awesome music. I love the game, I just wish things like double jump couldn't get undone, as sometimes thing unlocked would immedietly get undone which was annoying. All around great work!
Hey there! Sound Designer here - Thanks for the kind words on our project! We really appreciate that.
Balancing is definitely difficult in such a strict timeline, but it definitely adds to the excitement (and sometimes frustration) rng can bring!
most definetley!
I love a good time loop game. The one thing I would say is to maybe consider eliminating one degree of randomness. Random stat boost makes the game feel a little unfocused, like progression isn't happening steadily - but random location (bounded within, say, the areas currently reachable by the player in terms of jump height/speed) really makes each run a little more fun.
I enjoyed this game alot. The movement was done really well! Played at https://twitch.tv/hedgein <3
Thanks so much for streaming this! It's a shame is missed it live but was a lot of fun to watch.
Oh, loved the premise! Reminded me of an old flash game with a similar premise and a time loop (for which I'm always a sucker). The random is a bit too unforgiving - I had wall jump, high jump and double jump and then I lost them all to a few unlucky rolls. And spikes, oh, the spikes... I really loved that my luck never went down (or was I just, you know, lucky?), and I had an incentive to continue and eventually finish the game. The wall jump felt a bit off, but I can't quite put my finger on it. Really loved the scale of the level, it's just enormous for a jam game! The visuals are great. Overall, great job, really loved it!
The movement in this game was perfect and the muisc and other sfx were a perfect fit too. The art was amazing as well. Great entry !!!
Hey there! I did the sound design, super glad you think they fit well!
We're happy to hear you say all these kind things, we really appreciate it, we definitely put a lot of work into it!
Fantastic game! The platforming was crisp, the music and sound effects were gorgeous and unobtrusive, wonderful job! My only input would to maybe add some kind of way to locate dice (maybe an arrow at the edge of the screen pointing towards the nearest die idk), because sometimes you would have to hunt for dice before you could progress. I loved the checkpoint system and fantastic art and animation. Fantastic work!
Wow such kind words! I did the sfx for the game, and I'm glad you found that they were unobtrusive (I worried a little with this to be honest!)
I actually had the idea of having the dice emit an ambient sound relative to the player's position so they could be located easier, but we ended up running out of time to get that working!
Love the visuals and music! Try making it more clear as to where the player needs to go, and balancing the effects on the dice roll.
This was a great game! The randomness of the acquired/lost movesets made each run unique (though sometimes a bit frustrating). The art and music were great, as was the physics. Great work!
Played this yesterday in the stream, and was a fun experience!
Getting gradually more upgrades and being on such a tight timelimit is a unique concept.
Further the controls are really tight and work so well! Even though you are really fast, and lots of one tile blocks are placed, you can honestly still just run and jump at full speed and make every single jump if you're good. Quite the good controls / movement mechanics!
Art looks really stellar too.
If I had to nitpick to find a flaw, it sometimes took me about 30 to 60 seconds to find where I am supposed to go now, which "I guess" is long for such a fast paced game : D
Overall solid job, I honestly expected this to have at least 100 ratings.
Thanks so much for streaming the game, it was fantastic to watch! I'm pretty proud of how the controls came out haha
I think we may have missed the initial hype with the rating but I'll be trying to get more in the next few days. If you have any advice on the best way of getting more it would be appreciated.
I honestly just play, rate and comment a lot of games, and around 70 % of the people in return play my game too.
Streaming did get me like 6 - 8 ratings I think too, even though I never really streamed before, so maybe you can also consider that : D
A lot of people are hyped to just see someone play their game.
Excellent pixel art! The concept and presentation were very enjoyable... Really great game!
I loved this! Played for a while just running around exploring, it felt really good to play, a minimap or something along those lines would help a little with knowing what direction to go in, and maybe somewhere I can see what rule modifications I have unlocked, but this was so much fun to just run around it, great job!
this was way too hard for me ;3; or there was a mechanic I didn't understand, but I basically just frantically ran around dying repeatedly trying to figure out where to go or what to do, never enough time on the timer to get anywhere or do anything substantial
Solid platformer controls, cute sprites and sound effects! Honestly seems like a solid game, if not challenging. I didn't see where the theme came into play, but I did see some dice floating around that I didn't have the opportunity to get to before dying, so I'm gonna assume I just didn't live long enough to have the theme be obvious to me.
Good job!! Even if I died repeatedly, this is good!
Thanks for playing! There is some challenging platforming in this one.
When you collect dice you'll randomly gain/ lose abilities which will make the game easier or harder and may allow you to access new areas. There's actually a pretty easy to collect dice in the hole below the starting spawn (shown in the video) but it might not be obvious enough in game that dropping downwards is an option.
I flipping KNEW I was missing something that simple, lmao
Thanks for the feedback though. I've now added a hints section to the games description so hopefully players will realise that going down is an option.
Loved this game! The controls were super satisfying, and this was a really interesting way to make a metroidvania-type experience with such a quick play time! I think that this game could have done with a few more landmarks (I found myself getting lost from time to time), and maybe a more generous window to successfully perform a wall jump. Other than that, it was a really solid experience with a lot to appreciate!
Glad you had fun with the game! I was really happy with how the controls came out. Unfortunately we didn't have time to add more landmarks in the end. Thanks for the feedback on the wall jump. I did add a little bit of leeway with it, you can still wall jump if you press the button while you're a couple of pixels away from the wall but this might not have been enough. Was my first time coding a wall jump so good feedback for next time!
I managed to beat it in 29 runs my first time... is that good?
The character controller on this feels excellent, it's lots of fun to just move around and jump back and forth between walls and junk.
I'd say good is subjective! That's definitely not bad for your first run by any means though, great job!
Thanks for the kind feedback, we're super happy to hear you enjoyed your play through!
Great idea! Visuals and Animations are really well done too.
Difficulty WAY too high. I couldn't reach end of 1st without doing a PERFECT run. I like the idea and art, but work on that scalinig
Thanks for playing! There's multiple routes available so if one is too challenging there will be other directions you can explore. You can always come back when you've unlocked some helpful abilities.
