This was a pretty fun game. I enjoyed how helping the different family members added new challenges to the level. I just ended up getting stuck at the Grandma section. Overall, it was a good experience!

Had the same bug as PhilPhil described below, after finishing the grandma level. I love the unique touches you gave each family member, and I almost fell off my chair when the dad was just saying 'ow ow' as he was walking on the spikes. With the dad, there was a lot of trial and error involved where he got stuck and I gave up trying to manage it all, though I think the game works well if you use a systematic approach and don't try to bring home everyone all at once.
I love what you did with Kenney's assets. I hadn't seen these before and you really made them shine. Like making the baby a much smaller scale version of one of the characters, and the dad stretched (though that was a bit too obvious). Using emojis with emotions for the mom's texts was a nice touch as well.
One annoyance I had was with the first key. It's a pain to need to pick it up every time, and I don't think it added real value to the gameplay. The second key was nice because it's more of a puzzle teaching you how to use the dad, but having to do it every restart is pretty cumbersome. I also think there's no real value to the grandma starting at a height.
Good level design and good polish on the delivery of everything! This was definitely fun :) good job!
Thanks for playing my game, and all the feedback. Much appreciated!
I agree that a systematic approach one-by-one is the way to go until you figure out what to do. During the jam time I never actually finished the last level on time, only yesterday was I first able to do it. Which is why there is only a soft constraint on getting home on time. :)
Yes you make a good point about the key, when I fix the bugs that have been found I think I will restructure that part. It's really just supposed to be a safe place to learn/practice the jumping, collection of keys, and dissolving blocks. However the grandma is up high for a couple of reasons: 1) to allow you to choose which order to do the final two characters in, and 2) to allow access to the secret passage.
Thanks again for your comments and playing. Cheers.
Hey! Here’s my review from the live playtesting.
Congrats on the Theme part, it is very well respected and at the center of the gameplay! A lot of the other submissions feel like it’s just a lil family story slapped onto a game that could be about anything else.
The game was pretty fun though I’m not into platformers as I said (especially punitive-ish ones like yours). But good that you thought about me with an easy mode and level skipping! (I guess that helped testing during the development too).
The graphics are nice, I remember you said you didn’t do any of it but still they are pretty cohesive together. Could be improved with more polish like simple tweens here and there, particles maybe, lighting…
I can’t remember the audio really but I think it was okay, nothing spectacular but it was complete at least (the wheelchair making a sound while it’s still moving for example, it gives more feedback and information to the player).
My average rating should be around ~4
Btw here’s the cut playthrough: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/722304414
Hi VikFro, firstly thanks heaps for playing my game live, it was fun for me to watch!
I'll take all your points on board. I've yet to experiment with particles and lighting in Godot -- the background does darken as you get towards 6pm but it is pretty subtle.
Cheers for the cut playthrough as well. :)
Loved this game! It's fun and quite challenging. The music and sounds were especially good and stood out to me!
I'm not sure why I enjoy games where you get to toss infants so much. Perhaps it's natures way of telling me its time to have some children of my own.
It's a clever trick to make a 'single level' game for your first jam. There must have gone a lot of polish into this because it shows. The graphics and audio blend well with the general goofy tone of the game. GG.
Thanks for playing and your comment about the polish -- I did try very hard to have a "complete" product. :)
Yes, I was hoping I could reduce dev time by re-using the level. But there was quite a bit of refining to get the progression to where it is. Even still, I think a lot of people have found the grandma too frustrating, and probably the previous levels too easy.. all a learning process I suppose!
Cheers.
Liked this one, ran into a bug where I couldn't tether the dog but overall nice music / sfx and good level layout that act more like "puzzles". Nice job!
This was so much fun! I really enjoyed the concept and the level designs, and the assets you chose worked really well together. Felt bad I threw a baby though :D Good job!!
Nice game ! I loved the artsyle. Some plateform jumps are tricky to pull off :)
Throwing your little sister:D Like
Great idea and perfect theme match. I enjoyed playing your game.
I REALLY enjoyed this game! I love the graphics, the sounds the controls! It was all great.
I didn't get to the end of the game, I struggled a bit with gran, doggo and baby, got home late yet I still passed to the next level.. I thought I'd failed and I met dad. He was fun... But when I saw those double spike blocks I threw myself into them in defeat! (I took gran and doggo with me!)
I knew I wasn't getting any further!
I had a lot of fun, great game!
This was not my best work... lol :-p
Really good platformer! Very interesting concept and design as well. I also had a few issues with grandma, but otherwise I really liked it. Throwing the baby felt so wrong but was very comical at the same time! Great work!
The controls were tight and platforming felt great. Also every little thing was animated and juicy which made the whole thing feel really polished. Nicely done!
I like the idea of playing the same level over, but it feeling like a new level every time with new challenges. Clever ideas!
Nice game... made me sad I'm so bad at platformers. I liked the throwing your sister across jumps bit :D
The game is fun, i played until thursday, grandma is way too annoying imo
Thanks for playing! Yes, Grandma controlling has been mentioned by a few people. If it helps, I can say that all the grandma puzzles are designed to be solved with only "shove" -- i.e. there is no need for delicate small pushes. And there is an easy mode which allows you just to work on one character, or you can skip levels with Ctrl+Shift+1/2/3/4/5. Cheers. :)
Super challenging but fun! One slight problem I ran into a few times was having the grandma land on top of me, rendering me unable to jump which meant I'd have to restart the level. Apart from that though it's a game that entertained me for a good while!
