Excelent. Graphics, animation, sound and intro are amazing, very profesional look.
Other comments have already talk about difficulty, so there is not much i can add. Anyway, i can understand this difficulty level on a short game for a jam, as there is no more content waiting ahead. Perhaps you can give a few seconds of breath after you restart, as sometimes you almost pop up in front of a box.
Extra points for letting people restart in any moment, not forcing the player to wait till the score shows up. I think this is important for this kind of games.
I feel a bit conflicted about this game. At first I loved everything about it but then the crushing difficulty made me quit earlier than I thought. I think you can make something great by adjusting the difficulty. 2 or 3 mistakes and I'm caught :( Personal best is 10 sec :P
Thank you for your review! Curving the difficulty a bit, or just outright reducing it is certainly something we've discussed doing post-jam. I'll certainly try to cast a wider net for playtesting in our next jam. Outside advice like that is invaluable.
A gentler difficulty curve would be nice, but overall it feels very polished and it's fun to play!
I think it would need an easier start before becoming as hard as it is now, but this an awesome looking game!
Excellent game! Feels very polished and the art is phenomenal! I liked the short intro but I was glad I didn't have to rewatch it for every run, and since I did get caught (a lot, some times quite quickly lol) I was glad that it was sooooo fast to restart. Great job, very solid game!
Such a solid vibe from this game. The music and lo-fi 3D visuals work so well together and capture a unique nostalgic feeling. I couldn't get a run longer than 27 seconds, which reminded me a bit of Super Hexagon.
Really, the only thing negative I can say is that there's not much chance to recover from mistakes, as far as I've seen And, narratively speaking, I get the feeling this anti-hero would have some tricks up their sleeves to trip up their pursuer.
Great work y'all!
Thank you for the feedback! Our composer did an awesome job making a song that really ties the game together. :)
Interesting that you mention Super Hexagon! It absolutely crossed my mind when looking for music and gameplay inspirations.
nice game and great graphics.
Thank you!
Woooah, what a detailed little world!
The art and the audio design is detailed, smooth, polished, absolutely a joy to experience! ^_^
The control feels very snappy and responsive. I liked the story as well.
I see a lot of people mentioning the difficulty. I think there's a pretty easy solution for that:
I feel like if you moved /offset the camera left, it would've made the game a ton easier just because you can see the obstacles coming sooner.
Anyways, congrats on the entry, it is amazing! :))
Thank you for the feedback! I've made a minor change to the itch page inspired by that idea; I've upped the game's window size from 1440x720 to 1680x720 - this should allow for a bit more foresight, and imo, makes it look a lot more cinematic. Win-win!
Brilliant!
Even simpler solution :) cheers!
The love for the detail and the art itself is pretty neat in this game. I wished it would have a linear difficulty progression. Now it's a bit hard and it ends really fast. Or maybe I'm just not so good at this game, haha. :D
Great submission and lovely ode to Canabalt. Really enjoyed it! :)
Appreciated! Glad the influence shows. We were originally debating if we should even have it set on rooftops and make the lanes be different roofs that you could jump between! Would have been a bit bonkers to build and make look nice/natural, but it definitely had its' influence on the design. Thanks for the compliments on the art!
i'm amazed you implemented dialog skip in the game, and a hotkey to restart easily. Its a bit hard to figure out which lane i would need to jump to as everything moves too fast. overall its good
Hahahah yeah, bless our awesome programmer for making all of that work somehow. Thanks for the feedback!
Difficulty needs tuning but it was very fun and quite well-polished. Good job again!
Oh btw the leaderboard thing I was talking about is https://silentwolf.com/
It’s used quite often in this jam.
Ooh, thanks for the link! 👀 Sent it out to our group, we'll have to see if there's interest in implementing something like that.
Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for the feedback!
Thanks for the link! I had no idea that was a thing.
God damn this game is good. Graphics and all work very well together. Kept in touch with your updates on the discord for the character, and that character turned out really good. I would just say to make it slightly more easier but overall controls/gfx/audiois well done
Thank you for the kind words and feedback! Glad to see the discord posts were enjoyed as well :)
What an awesome game! Love the subtle 3D effects and shadows.
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is a nice take on autoscrollers! Also LOVED the art but having this awesome environments kind of makes me want to see amazing characters also but they felt somewhat flat. Another issue I had is the floatiness of the jump, it felt uncontrollable at times and ended up in situations where I didn't have much to do besides waiting to lose because the other guy catches up to you very quickly. Overall, this is a very solid game. Props!
Heh, you already know that you've got me feeling all inspired to make more unique characters! Thanks for the feedback :)
That was really cool!
Thanks!
Damn the intro was really good, also i love the art style and the music is pretty fitting, but I might be a bit bad, couldnt get that far...like 6-8seconds
Thanks for your review! We are glad you liked it!
Nice intro ! I actually thought I was gonna play the guy sitting next to the protagonists, so I died instantly the first time, but I'm glad there was a restart button. The art is amazing, I absolutely love it, the music fits the game perfectly. I couldnt go really far, as my best score is 9 seconds, the game is very difficult grom the beginning, but I live the concept of having the guy launching stuff in your back.
Good job !
Thanks for the review! We are glad you liked it!
I got 38.36s. Fun and visually impressive, but too difficult in my opinion. I think I would remove the chaser's ability and maybe make the player take less damage from hitting the boxes, but great fun nonetheless.
Thanks for your review! We are glad you liked it!
Really impressive graphics. I agree with the onboarding, the story-part was nice - but then I immediately failed. Luckily you can instantly restart, which I did a lot of times.
It's hard that you can't easily see what's coming, especially when the blue guy gets closer and you are forced to run more towards the right of the screen.
Overall great submission!
Thanks for your review! We are happy you liked it!
I've read the description for controls but the game could use a one time tutorial at the very start of the game, similar to Temple Run and other runners. The hero have a skill, the player could use some skill too. And yeah also runs into the issue of starting in an obstacle, giving me a handicap.
The design is well fitted for the theme. Really like the atmosphere and the 3d effect. Overall, it's a cool game and I enjoyed it!
Onboarding would have definitely been nice to have. A player skill would be neat though! I actually added the gun breaking animation at the start specifically so that it wouldn't be implied that Red has that for the gameplay. Making me actually really feel a version of this where you could take down the hero could be interesting...
But alas, the jam has come and gone! It's on to the next project from here. :)
Thanks for the kind words, and thanks for playing!
