A friendly kraken who hugs ships! Innovative :) The gameplay is fun. Didn’t properly get used to controlling the arms though. The graphics are done very well, especially the flexible arms. Good background music and sounds, all manually done. The quotes keep kraken you up :)

Just wanted to give 5/5 stars for the audio and while filling out the form I heard the titlesong for the first time. Now I'm sad I can't give 6. This is just beautiful!

The gameplay is loads of fun as well. My hand coordination is horrible but I still managed to hug a fair amount of ships (and parrots) 🥰

Also from the technical side this is really impressive (especially the tentacles and the water).

Congrats on this great entry!!!

Developer

Thank you so much! I really tried to get the sea-shanty feel, and it seems like everyone thought it was appropriately shanty-ish! I’m really blown away by the response to it, and I can’t seem to stop smiling!

I’m so glad you found it fun! I know I’m biased, but I also think the tentacles and the water are super cool! In the end I had to split the sky/water shader into two parts, all so we could have that little bit of water in front of the ships as they sail by 😂

Thanks for playing!

This is really a beautiful game. I really like the music you probably worked hard on this and the result is just great!

Developer

Thank you so much! Our team is spread out over the globe, so we managed to have someone working on it almost all the time, which was awesome.

Thanks for playing!

Funny game (lots of puns!) I liked the off tune music (I hope it was made on purpose but if not, it's even funnier :) )

It took me 2 tries to catch the fact that the kraken needs to catch with both arms otherwise it doesn't work. And after that, I'm not always sure of what I'm doing but the overall happiness of the creature made it worth it :)

Developer (1 edit)

I’ll level with you. I won’t lie to you and say that the music being out of tune was on purpose, but it wasn’t exactly an accident either 😂 It’s my second time making music (and I mean that in both a game jam and overall sense), so I’m super happy that everyone has been enjoying it so much!

In the future, I think a short interactive tutorial will be a definite thing we take forward with us, which would hopefully help.

Thank you for playing!

Aww, what a wonderful setting. And a QWOP on top of it!

All that time, the Kraken only wanted hugs.

Congrats to the team, that's a really nice game. I really enjoyed it.

Developer

Thank you so much for your kind words, and for playing!

Ths turned out great, love the music and the water effect is very nice.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

I did both of those things, so thank you!

Thanks for playing!

Haha you really went to town on the treeson wildcard! :) Very original idea, well done guys. The controls were definitely my pundoing though.

Developer

Thanks so much! You might say that I’m an enormous fan of puns who tries to use them at any appropriate punportunity.

Sorry the controls didn’t work well for you! I promise, we just wanted them awkward, not difficult!

Thanks for playing!

This was so adorable! His expressions gave me such motivation to catch ships because I couldn't bear to see him looking sad :)

Developer

The plan worked! Mua ha ha!

Seriously, though, thank you for playing!

It's hilarious and fun, and I liked the fact that the pun in the main screen changes everytime you restart!

Developer(+1)

We had a lot of fun coming up with as many puns as we could!

Thanks so much for playing!

Love it, the art is soo cute, great job!

Developer

I agree, Velopman nailed the artwork!

Thanks for playing!

Pretty great concept, and lots of really cool graphical stuff going on here. The tentacles, of course, are very neat, and the ocean surface looks pretty cool too. The overall atmosphere of the game is pretty fun, with those graphics and with the silly music.

On the comparison to QWOP--I would say there is one major difference, which is that QWOP has simple mechanics that are awkward to control, while this game has very complicated mechanics that are awkward to control. And personally, I probably would prefer to understand what is going on in this game. 😅

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing, and thank you for the feedback!

In the future, I think keeping an eye on how clear the objectives are, and how easy the mechanics are to understand, is an important point to keep in mind. We’ll definitely be taking that forward with us!

Nice and fun experience. Although controls are very challenging for me.

Is that the Squidward Tentacles house ? Nice Easter egg :)

Developer

Thanks for playing!

I’m sorry to hear the controls were difficult for you, it wasn’t our intention to make them difficult, just awkward. Was there anything in particular we could have changed about it to make them better for you?

Submitted(+1)

Great game, looks really nice, it took me a while to figure out the objective but once I got it I had a lot of fun!

Developer

Thanks for playing!

I think in the future we’ll be keeping the clarity of the objectives in mind a bit more.

best qwop type game i've seen

Developer

Thanks so much!

Very smart and original game mechanic ! I really enjoyed giving these ships friendly hugs 😉. Also the art looks great and I can feel you made your music with dedication ! Congratulations 👍

Developer

Thank you so much! Though I must admit, if I never whistle “Drunken Sailor” again, it will be too soon! :D

Submitted(+2)

Love the concept and how original it is. I just couldn’t wrap my head around the controls and every time I managed to hug a ship it felt more like accident than something I did on purpose. :D

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks so much for playing!

The controls are intentionally a bit awkward to control, to really nail that Q.W.O.P. feeling!

Submitted(+1)

Daverinoe's solemn sea shanty whistle is a reminder to all that we just need a hug.

Great work guys!

Developer

Thanks so much Ollie! If I never whistle “Drunken Sailor” again, it will be too soon haha

Really loved the facial expressions on the kraken :)

Developer

Thanks for playing! I hope you had a “Kraken” time!

Submitted(+2)

The theme is the the cutest! I just wanna make him happy.

Developer (1 edit)

When I put together the end game music, I questioned whether I had made it too sad, as I then immediately felt bad for losing haha

Thanks for playing!

The ultimate awkward hugs simulator! Love the graphics and the errr.. tentacles :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for playing!

It’s less awkward if there’s puns involved, right? Right?
