Pretty fun overall! The one puzzle piece hidden behind an object was my sole complaint. It was really just a question of darkness that I struggled to find it and I had found my self going to all corners and clicking on everything. That being said, it was otherwise very clever and I loved some of the puzzles. The aha moment when I realized I could have objects maintain their orientation when going through the mirror was excellent. Great job.

Liked the overhall idea, the t pose always scared me and still found it funny. I had a hard time finding everything that i needed to find the solutions, overhall i woundn't really call it a puzzle game, it was more about searching and finding what you needed, it's not necesseraly a bad thing through, it was still fun. Good job on your submission keep going like that.

I too have some notes. First the negatives:

  • It was a bit disappointing that finding the tetris lock pieces boiled down to just looking on shelves and behind things.
  • Speaking of the tetris lock, getting a preview highlight of the held piece while placing it would have been nice.
  • The placeholder t-pose was pretty distracting, thanks to the omnipresent shadow, though I guess it had to be there for the mirrors.
  • Took me a bit to realize there was sprinting and jumping. My expectation for this sort of game is that you're limited to walking. Not sure that's a problem, but something to consider?
  • Could have benefited from some more ambient noise or music.  The silence got deafening after a while, with the occasional door creak only reminding me of it. Footsteps, rain outside, anything really.

On the positive side:

  • The Amnesia style world interactivity was a good choice and worked well.
  • Once I figured out I just had to look for the tetris pieces, things slid right into place. Escape room games have a bad habit of relying on moon logic, but this game made sense.
  • I liked the mirror transition, and the subtle difference in lighting helping to differentiate between the normal and mirrored bathrooms.
  • The box glowing on the inside was an effective way of marking it as weird and unusual.
  • While they were a bit hard to spot, every room having a light-switch  is handy for marking where I've been.
  • 3d gets a bonus point :]

Maybe a bit too short, but that's better than a puzzle game you don't finish. A great first time entry, if you ask me :]

Interesting concept that could be expanded further. Feels like a mix of  90s First Person Point & Clicks (Myst, Dracula etc), Flash Escape Room Games and the physics interactivity of Penumbra/Amnesia.

Here are some notes:

  • There IS a lightswitch in the hallway. :>
  • It works without issues on my Linux system (just confirming that it works, because someone else had issues)
  • Performance on my (arguably) weak Laptop is not great. Not sure if its some material settings (lots of reflections going on) or maybe the mirror subviewports are rendering all the time? 1080p fullscreen I get sub 30 fps on my Ryzen 4800 with iGPU :)
  • Rotating left/right allows you to sqeueeze through gaps (got into the rose/3207 room that way :)
  • The lock/key mechanism is too small to be easily noticed. The first time I mirrored the key and opened the door it was just luck. After that I looked at the other key and locks in detail and noticed their shape.
  • It is a tad tedious to always run back to the bathroom to mirror the world, especially since the hallway-door sort of blocks the bathroom entranc

All in all a great entry though. Would love to see either a full point & click adventure with this mechanic sprinkled in, or a full game with this mechanic :)

Thanks for the detailed review/feedback!

We did put a little time into trying to optimise the mirror viewport rendering, but most of the frame time is actually used up by the omni light shadows. The mirrors definitely accentuated that though.

If the mirrors weren't such a hit on performance, I think we would have put another one across the house somewhere too.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated though, and I'm glad you enjoyed the game!

Great submission! I wasn't quite sure why the box altered the key, but it worked :) The darkness, however, is a bit too hard to navigate for me - some light in the hall would make it more navigatable for me

I liked the puzzles I was able to reach and solve, but once out of the first room I had trouble proceeding because I couldn't see.  Putting a dim light on the light switches would be helpful, I eventually found it for most rooms but never found a light switch for the hallway where I dropped one of the tetromino pieces and couldn't find it again.  I also wasn't too sure where to go next, I had found two tetromino pieces and either a code or word but nowhere to use them, though I presume being able to see in the hallway would have helped.  There is an interesting foundation here though, well done!

I like the concept with the mirrored universe/room. Scared myself a few times with my T pose shadow :D
I couldnt see anything in the kitchen under the sink and didnt find a way to light it and then i gave up :D
Fun game, well done.

Liked the key puzzle, I think there's a lot of potential in this but I just couldn't figure out what I was supposed to do once I left the first room. Then I dropped the spanner and it fell through the floor so had to give up.

The T-posing model (and its shadow) got in the way, think that could've been left out, but I liked the mirror transition, that was really nicely done.

It's a really original idea too, well done for doing something a bit different!

Anyone else had issues with the Linux version?

Developer

The game was actually built and developed on Linux, so that should be the most stable build.

If the issue is with launching the game, you can find the logs in ~/.local/share/godot/app_userdata/WMB Game/logs/

You could also try deleting the whole WMB Game folder if the logs don't show any indication of something being wrong, in case the shaders failed to compile or something.

Otherwise, could you please tell us more about what issues you're having?

Submitted

Yes the issue is launching the game, if the logs help you I can paste them here but I'll probably just try it out in windows

Mirrored Escape was a good challenge but with enough clues to keep you on the right track. Very satisfying to finish the escape! Well done.

Thank you for playing! Glad you liked it.

I got through the mirror, but I honestly couldn't figure out where to go from there. I'd like to try and get further before I rate it. Do you have any hints?

Developer

Thanks for playing! A hint I can give is 'the box'.
