Really cool idea!
Got the bad end after the 7 days, but I'll try for the good end another time. Also got the 1st bad end from interrupting Ina.
I wasn't too sure if putting in words that didn't make the box gray was valid or not. I'd assume not.
It was pretty interesting trying to figure everything out though!
I like the sparkling stars animation on Ina a lot haha
Really cool experience and interesting story! I really liked the puzzle-esque gameplay of trying to decipher the Eldritch language and it felt pretty rewarding to figure out some of the words myself.
My only complaint has already been addressed by a few other commenters, mainly the one where there's some dialogue with a lot of important information that can be skipped or missed without a way to read them again (I had to reload the save a few times). A suggestion is maybe something like a note is placed down with the translations once you receive the dialogue, or have it where the other characters will repeat themselves if you interact with them again?
But it's pretty exciting to know that this is just the first chapter now and that there's more to come >:)
I enjoyed the game!
Very cool game concept and it kept me hooked to unravel the mysterious contents of the book.
I missed a couple of words on one of the hints and had to "restart" after a bad ending. It would be nice if there was a way to replay an already seen dialogue somehow.
Nice character sprites and good music choice.
One of my favorite entries in the jam!
Edit: Oh yeah and a functional options menu! That's extra points as well!
It was quite a unique gameplay experience for me. My brain and puzzle games don't always get along, but I enjoyed. My suggestions, like others. Some improvements in the UI and maybe add some extra feedback. Nice work!
This was extremely good! Very intriguing concept, and really fun to go through and search for the meanings of the words (and even deduce some of them manually by using context clues). Really my only complaint is some of the dialogue with large amounts of information thrown at you with no way to write it all down in that moment (clicking the scroll progresses the dialogue), and usually with no way to replay said dialogue. I wasn't sure if that was intentional or not so I ended up just screenshotting the dialogue since it felt like a bug. Despite that this is one of my favorites I've played!
yes that is currently a bug. you can bypass that for now by pressing tab to open the scroll menu but since its a minor bug i will only be able to fix it after the feedback period.
Definitely one of my favs from the jam! Got really super into it xD Very nice~
Appreciate the experimental approach here, this is a very interesting premise! Not sure if they're the inspiration here, but I love ace attorney and zero escape, and games like these scratches that itch. Visually nice looking and the dialogue writing is pretty in-character as well.
A few things I'd like to point out:
- There is some resizing issue apparently, and changing to full screen messes up the hitboxes of the clickable areas. I think you might've already found out the fix for this based on below comments, otherwise you might want to try changing the Display->Window->Stretch->Mode to "viewport" in your project settings, and test it by resizing your game windows
- There are some really important dialogues that could be missed if clicked mistakenly. Dialogue also registers a click to progress even when I am clicking the translation scroll button, so I had to reload my save to read it again. I'd suggest to maybe have a dialogue history option, or just allow the dialogue to run again (or at least a summary) instead of showing a "I've already talked to xxx" message.
- Also, this might just be personal preference, but maybe instead of directly giving out the words, you can have some riddles or incomplete clues to piece together, so you can get a more puzzley gameplay into this game as well.
Thanks for the feedback! The window issue is fixed, and we will put in a timer for the dialogue to sit there after it finishes typing the lines after the feedback period. We can rework the hint mechanics a little after the feedback period as well!
Definitely one of the most unique ideas! I'm not sure if you were actually supposed to guess the last few missing word, or if there were hints that I missed, but I got it in the end. The time loop mechanic with multiple playthroughs was also a nice touch (and something you could easily expand upon, should you make this a full game). Great job!
This was a lot of fun! I had a great time trying to figure stuff out, and the writing was really good! One thing, clicking on the scroll icon rather than using tab advances the text, so it makes it way harder to put in words before I knew tab was an option. Good fun either way.
Fun game, though it seems like the hitboxes are misaligned from the sprites so its a bit hard to figure out where you need to click to interact with something. It was still fun though. I used the Meconopsis font in my own game, so that helped a bit with translating.
yeah thats an issue i heard about someone who playtestes it too. its an issue with screensizes so the hitboxes gets misaligned because they arent fixes to screensizes. thats what time management does to you xD
I can see inspiration from Heaven's Vault in this. It took me awhile to beat because I kept trying to guess at the words myself. It was a good time and followed the theme well. Nice job.
