I liked the cute character art!
The story is also well narrated. I didn't follow Ina's POV during ENReco so I think this is an interesting and different way to enjoy it!
Oh and the music is great too! It changed to the match the scene tone, most of the time. I feel the first shrine scene probably needed a more ominous bgm to match the darkness in the place and fear of the unknown in the characters.
Interesting use of sanity to determine the story path.
Improvement suggestions:
- Include more activity variations for the sanity changes and make the effect on sanity not visible to the player (eg: hide the +1 / -1 text) so the player chooses guided by their own feelings/gut instead of focusing on numbers.
- UI elements could use some polishing.
- The UI doesn't scale well in ultrawide displays.
- Small bug: After the call, Elizabeth's sprite stays on screen for the rest of the game. I chose to think she became the narrator and read all narrator lines in her voice. XD
Very cute and clean art style for both character and the background! Personally I would like to suggest a couple of things maybe for your future games:
That being said, it was a nice read and reliving the moment of ENReco stream accompanied by the cwute chibi art! Good work!
Also here's a funny bug moment where Liz is in awe of Ina's cow joke and she just stuck there for the entire game!
I personally don't see the merit in recreating a part of EnReCo as a Visual Novel, but I've combed through the review section and it would appear that my opinion is rather unpopular. I think your sprites are cute, and the storytelling itself is fairly solid. The side events were fun too (Though I was also plagued by Elizabeth for the majority of the playthrough)
I do think the "ambience" is lacking in some areas. Some backgrounds feel a bit plain to me, and some sections have odd transitions with the music or music that doesn't really fit the scene that's playing out. Things I feel are really important for a visual novel.
The sanity mechanic is also a bit lackluster, it felt irrelevant for most of the run. The only time it mattered it was locking me out of an alternate path that might have been interesting. Usually penalizing the player for doing a thing well is bad.
It's been mentioned, but you might've suffered a bit for your choice of engine too. Unity's UI is rough, and this game is all UI.
Even so, you pulled it off and a lot of people liked it. Maybe that makes me a hater.
Maybe having a hater means you've made it.
A cute VN that calms the soul. Soothing bgm, cute character sprites and engaging story. Love how you made the events in enreco from Ina's POV into a story arc.
Manipulating sanity feels a little too straightforward, wish there was a something more that makes me question my choice a little everytime I make a selection, like having currency/stats for example and have requirements to make some selections.
Overall, very Ina energy. Something that I can play while lying on the ground. Thanks for making this!
Thank you so much for the feedback and lovely review <3!
Everyone did an amazing job with the music, writing and art, it was tons of fun to see!
Having something with more choices and more things like stats is something we definitely wanted to explore some more, so perhaps in the future!
I'm glad the Ina chill comf shined through on the game :D
Fantastic work, I loved Ina's story arc in Enreco, and seeing it recreated as a visual novel works perfectly! The soundtrack was great, very well done, and the art was all so cute!
Sadly I was haunted by the Ghost of Elizabeth Rose Bloodflame for my claim that I had a cow, but for that pun I'm perfectly fine with a little Pun-ishment.
Thank you so much!!
Really happy you enjoyed the soundtrack, Lucaric did an amazing job and Eruti made some really lovely art too <3
Alas, the
definitely not a bugbringer of justice needed payback!!A really cute re-telling of the ENReco streams. I didn't really follow Ina's pov much but I remember the different interactions of Ina with the others.
Thank you for playing! We had to do our homework watching Ina's streams which was pretty fun honestly lol, hope you enjoyed!!
Super cute art! I liked this one a lot! I played through and got all 3 endings and it was intersting seeing how each version ended. Also, I got the same bug other's got where Liz stuck around, but I liked to think she was there supporting Ina through it all.
Thank you for playing <3!!
Really happy you enjoyed it so much to go through and get all of the endings, it was a lot of fun to pool together and think of all the scenarios :D.
Liz was definitely there for some moral support, defo not cursing ina xD
I got all the way to the good ending and I think this is a pretty good VN for a jam. I did encounter a bug where after doing the ERB event her sprite just stayed on screen for the rest of the game, but nothing game breaking.
I think this might have benefited a lot from being in an engine like Ren'Py instead since a lot of my criticisms for the game are UI/UX things that Ren'Py handles natively (logs, pausing, etc.) Also the fade to black transition took a bit long for my taste. I would've liked a feature where if I press space again I can skip it, but otherwise, this is good.
I like the chibi art and the story is written pretty well!
Thanks so much for playing all the way through!
Everyone did so great with their jobs and I'm so proud of them <3
I totally missed that with the ERB sprite though LOOOOL, somehow fitting though because if you choose the other option, the sprite vanishes. I'll take this as a sign you should never lie or ERB will haunt you ;-;
And yeah! I'd honestly thought about it a fair bit while going through the project. Ren'Py is of course designed for VN's so would be a natural fit :P, the plans for the game swapped part way through, and I didn't wanna swap to an engine I'd never used out of fear I wouldn't get to grips with it in time. I'm very curious though to actually look at it in the future and see how it all works!
Been a big learning experience these past two weeks, thanks so much for playing it and for your feedback <3
I haven't played a visual novel in years, so this was a nice change of pace. The chibi art is really cute, and the dialogue is well written. Not sure if it was intentional or due to time constraints, but I like the use of simple backgrounds instead of detailed /realistic ones—they suit the chibi art style really well.
Unfortunately, like others have mentioned, I couldn’t progress past a certain point because the dialogue got stuck, so I’m not sure if there’s more to the gameplay.
Just a suggestion: it might help to add a way to differentiate the narrator’s lines from the characters’ dialogue. Sometimes I missed which character was speaking. Maybe you could leave out the speaker’s name for the narrator and use a different color for each character’s name. Also, the backlog is hard to read against bright backgrounds.
PS: Image of where I got stuck.
Thank you for giving our game a look and commenting ^^
Thanks for the feedback, some really good suggestions there actually! So happy to hear you enjoyed the writing and art though, the others worked super hard on it :D. The backgrounds were honestly a bit of both! Okumono's backgrounds were great and an absolute godsend.
Really good point about differentiating speakers though, while it's too late to sort for the game jam itself now, it's a really good point and I'll be keeping that in mind <3
I am at least pleased to say that we've now updated it so there's a tons of bugfixes and extras, for example:
Thanks so much again!
Cute art, and I appreciate the attempt at rearranging the music. The gameplay is not very engaging though as there didn't seem to be any real choices to make so I was reading and getting through a story the whole time. In fact, if you click through too fast you can break the game where the dialogue gets stuck and the day counter above turned to Day 1 and I couldn't do anything other than Quit. Anyway, good job on the visuals and the feel, hopefully a little more 'game' next time.
Heya, thanks so much for playing and commenting \o/
The feedback is much appreciated! We've spent a lot of time over this weekend fixing the majority of these issues, there are now a few small choices to make, side events, 3 endings, and now you won't get stuck (just don't worry how we submitted 10 mins before deadline ;D).
Thank you again for giving it a look.
The art is very cute, and I like the idea for the story! Its a bit low on content, though, and I wish there were some actual choices to make.
Thanks so much for playing the game <3
Some choices and more content was the main thing we wanted to sort,
We've (totally not last minute) updated the game massively \o/, now there's now optional side events, improved and more fleshed out writing, and 3 different endings to see!
Really really appreciate you giving it a go and commenting!
The improvements help a lot! The sidequests were fun, although Liz stuck around a bit longer than she was supposed to lol.
