This game is mesmerizing to watch.
Just making a maze of converyor belts that transport goods and makes them better along the way is so satisfying.
I liked the corrupting minigame too!
Improvement suggestions:
- It would be cool if you can expand the corruption minigame to more complex levels with stronger opponents. Maybe the stronger the opponent, the better the value of their addition to the production line!
- Add some kind of goal. Maybe divide the game into levels and give the player a money target to reach within X minutes. Each level adds more mechanics, conveyor belt pieces and opponents.
- In-game instructions for each part. Maybe a little hint window that pops up when a part is selected in the construction toolbar.
Super fun game! XD
Life is a Roblox!!
Must expand in order to expand in order to expand in order to EXPAND in order to EXPAND!!!
In short, this game is very dangerous for me to sink my time in, for being a Factorio player!
The only thing I wish this game has is a brief explanation on what each item do inside the game and maybe a mile stone the player can work toward to!
This game is freaking addictively awesome!
I initially didn't have a goal in mind nor did I ever Roblox Tycoon, but I quickly ended up wanting to learn how things work. The game didn't have much instruction on what the goal was (in game), but thanks to the game's title image and the itch.io game page explanation I learned what I should try out and eventually learned that Life is Roblox. In the future think it would be nice to add incentives for progression like upgrades to the machines and/or production but I assume that's normal for these types of games. Good job!
Life is Roblox!
I am not too familiar with the Roblox Tycoon source material. So feedback is not going to factor that in. This game does remind me a lot of Factorio though, with the belts. I think a little factorio like game is actually a great concept for a Holojam game. And it certainly is original.
I thought the art was very cute. I especially liked the little grems in the boxes.
You have quite a lot of mechanics, but they maybe aren't quite used as much as they could be. I recognize that the game jam probably added a lot of constraints. But I think a few additional tweaks can help showcase the mechanics you already have. For instance, there are a lot of different conveyor belt patterns, and the option to add extra shoeboxes, but I don't think there is anything preventing you from just going with the simplest design with just one long conveyor belt full of blue beams.
Something to incentivize a bit more planning can help showcase the mechanics you already have implemented. Things such as "rocks" or "walls" you cannot remove, a few prebuilt items you need to use, a more limited build space, or maybe even grems being "full" after a period of time are all ideas. But a lot of things can work.
I also wan't quite sure what exactly the blue beams and red beams do. The blue beams quickly allowed me to get so much money I lagged the game out. (But I won't lie... seeing a slow march of gigantic, burnt, marshemellows was something that gave me a laugh I hadn't had in a long time.). So just a line of text explaining their effects can help a lot.
Finally, I enjoyed the references to other members. But I think there is a lot of potential to integrate them into the game a bit more. Things such as making the corruption member's items have special properties (I could not tell if they did). Since at the moment, there isn't really much thought needed to deciding where you want to put the members. Although maybe the joke of Gigi Corrupting people with Roblox alone may be worth it.
It's good to see someone make a game like this for a gamejam though! Good work.
Thanks for playing! Ironically I've never played Factorio, but the game is still inspired by what I've seen of it.
The grems in the shoebox were a very last-minute addition. The placeholder sprite, just an orange square, almost ended up in the final game, but I'm very glad I changed it in time because I think it adds a lot to the games visuals. Having time to animate them would've been nice though.
Yeah, the only thing disincentivizing super long conveyors is the lag it can bring lol. I was planning on having there be limits on how far things can be upgraded and stuff like that to add more strategy, but I ran out of time for that. I also would've made a tutorial, but that was pretty low priority.
As for the other Holomem, they are just better droppers. I had thought about doing some other things with them, like having some be upgraders instead of droppers, but once again didn't have enough time. I was also planning on making hats you could buy, such as the EnReco hats, and if you wore certain hats certain members would also wear them (such as Biboo wearing the Cerulean hat or the Stain hat). That's the mechanic I most wish I had time to implement. Finally, I was originally going to make the corruption minigame actually look like a discord chat with Gigi trying to convince the Holomem to play Roblox, but I ended up having to stick with the placeholder (actually all the art was meant to be placeholder, I wanted to do an entirely different art style. I think it turned out good enough though).

In shoebourx we all fam and life indeed is roblox. I enjoyed playing this silly lil game! Gigi roblox sprite is adorable and gameplay overall fun. I struggled a bit with setting up new components at first tho
I'm glad you liked it!
Liked it a lot! One thing that could be interesting to explore, should you continue to work on this: currently it feels like there is little reason for Gigi to be there, as she basically just works as a replacement for a cursor, indicating where you want to place things. The easiest thing would of course be to just cut her, but I think there is also a lot of potential to go in the opposite direction and instead expand on what the player character can do (e.g. active participation elements). Would love to see a fully featured factory game down the line!
Very interesting concept! Gameplay is addictive, and being a factorio-like, I can see this being expanded into something content crazy!
A few feedback I have:
- Feel that there is a little too many keyboard button mappings. I like that you can select with mouse instead, but wish you added a little more support to it. When I'm using my mouse, I find myself trying to use thes crollwheel to scroll through the build list. Then when item is hovered, scrolled to change the direction of the currently hovered item.
- For "collector" location to be predefined but randomized each playthrough (you can still make it disabled and only enabled after paying for smth). I feel like this will twist up the gameplay a little, and prevent player from using the same strategy over and over and actually make them think up of various optimal approaches instead of just spamming the same build.
- Maybe some way to clean-up stray marshmellows.
Really impressive that you went with this concept, and actually made it to the end given the short timeframe!
Thank you!
Nice. The only thing I could wished is there probably isn't any collision in the conveyor belt? or I may not play it long enough to notice it. I very much adore a Factorio/Mindustry -lite.
Thanks! Its meant to be kind of halfway between a simpler Roblox tycoon and a more complex game like Factorio.
Very cool!
That must be very hard to make.
Management-style games seem too hard to create xD.
Nice work!
Thanks! It was actually suprisingly simple. Most of the code is just checking what else is on the tile something is on (or in the case of menu stuff if there the mouse is in a certain area), and doing something or not doing something depending on that result. Doing something more than just for a jam, especially trying to make it balanced, would probably be a lot harder though.
This is a cool project that you could keep expanding imo. There's a lot of content in there, and the main loop is fun, and creative. From a tech perspective, is amazing how you can spawn different mechanisms without tanking the performance that much, as CasuallyPear seems was able to achieve xD
Thanks! Not sure the performance is that great lol, it gets laggy pretty quick especially considering how small and simple the game and graphics are. The lag is quite a bit better if you focus more on upgraders than droppers and add collectors earlier in a conveyor line, aka not what CasuallyPear did lol.
Life is Roblox! Pretty fun and I loved the art style you ended up with. Especially the settings menu. Good stuff!
Thank you!
Very fun! I enjoyed just seeing how big a number I could get, I managed 12 digits, excluding the decimal points that showed up. (My real plan was stopped by the realization that there's only counter-clockwise turns available, I was going to just keep twisting. Maybe I should still make a spiral...)
The phone icons were really cute, and it was really fun to see all the girls slowly being dragged into the madness and figure out what they gave you as well.
I'm a sucker for automation games like this, so it was right up my alley, fantastic work making this in 2 weeks!
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
There are clockwise turns! If you select the corner conveyors and press X it changes the direction. Maybe I can make that more clear before the grace period ends.
LIFE IS ROBLOX
Very fun and great take on a roblox tycoon style game. Esp funny seeing how large you can make a marshmallow.
Thanks!
Life is indeed shoeblox
Had a lotta fun messing around with this lol
Great job!
Thanks! I'm glad you had so much fun with it!
I would never have thought of this, good job Becc!
