Nice platformer. The controls are pretty janky though. The character does not move sometimes if you do a quick tap on the keys to try to move just a little. This hurts the experience, since it requires a certain precision at times.

Nice game. The jumping was a bit annoying though, since it took so long to fall down... and the spikes sometimes weren't seen, so I had to restart over and over again from the checkpoint only to be killed by another unseen spike (I mean, it's in the title haha). I did end up finishing the game, though.

Amazing work!

A simple tower platforming game. I would like to know, is this game endless? if it is. This could be the flappy bird of nokia. I got to level 752

Developer

Thanks for playing.  It's not endless.  There's an exit door at 5000.  I would like to create an endless version though.

Simple but well executed concept:) I like how fine-tuned the controls are, and how its juuust possible to get from side to side of the screen with the wonky jumps. Also is the player supposed to be a tower of hanoi thingy? Fun entry!!

Developer

Thanks for playing and leaving a comment.  I created the character first and then the title.  Made me want to put an actual towers of hanoi puzzle in the game somehow.  I remember brute forcing a program with recursion to solve it.  Anyways glad you enjoyed it.

A very unique entry using a portrait layout, looks and feels faithful to the retro aesthetic. Cool game!

I'll admit I first thought this game looked a bit boring, but I had to try it to find out how you could possibly have 5000 levels, and it was surprisingly fun!

I would have loved to see more variation in hazards (though I'll admit I only played the first 1600 levels or so), as the game turned out a bit repetitive - but it was enjoyable none the less.

Enjoyed this! Really interesting movement, which took a while to click but felt good when it did. Enjoyed the challenge too. Good work!

Yeah I rock!!! Made it to the end! I really liked it, it was fun to play. There’s nothing to complain about! Well done yeaaahhh

I got a score of 1145 points on my first attempt. This is a pretty fun endless-climbing game, and the pixel grid/Nokia intro add something to the aesthetic. It would be nice if there was a greater variety of hazards, since there isn't too much that can actually kill you if you're watchful for spikes — failing a jump doesn't kill you, after all.

EDIT: I just reached level 5003, beating the game. There's a bit more variety in challenges later on, like the blocks that cover up your vision, so that criticism isn't as strong as it was when I first played.

This game was fun! I managed to get to 1000 before dying. I also loved the pixel effects, really made it look like a nokia screen

This one REALLY took me back to the games in really old Nokia models, and the grid helps to send that old Nokia screen vibe home! The same can go for the sound effects, as they do their job really well.

I got fascinated by the character. Such a simple and yet cool idea for a character design! I just love how the little guy moves and is animated in a way that it's clear where it's heading.

The heavy drop the jump has actually caught me off guard at first. It reminded me of how Megaman would fall from ledges in Megaman 1, so funnily enough, although it was tricky to play around with it at first, really sent me to the NES era of games.

The checkpoints were also perfectly placed. Just the right amount and with the right distance between eachother. Far away enough for me to start wondering where the next one was gonna be, but also just within reach after going through some of the obstacles.

Although the game's name is Towers of Annoy, I actually had a really pleasant experience with it. It all just really clicked and made for a really fun experience. The checkpoints were definitely key to this, and avoided making me frustrated by having to start from the beginning. Super well done!

I'm glad you liked the challenge and had a pleasant experience.  Great point about the falling mechanic.  I learned in some video that falling feels better if it's at a faster speed than going up.  Glad to hear it works for a more vertical-based platformer.  I'm leaning towards making the jump height higher though by either +1 or +0.5 but would need some more playtesting.  Oh yeah Megaman ... funny enough I'm playing through the collection with my son, so maybe it influenced me a little.  Thanks for the nice comments.

This was really cool! Played it until the end, the record says I was on level 5003, but that I have beaten it in 8 seconds,  which is probably a bug haha, so I guess that is the only problem I found. The rest of the game plays really well and was never cheap with the obstacles, also the old nokia screen is very well simulated here, so congrats!

Thank you so much for playing!  I think you're right RE: the highest level.  I didn't do a complete play through after replacing my movement functions from int() to round() so I bet it rounded up.  And I accidentally used round() in the time calculations.

This is exactly the kind of a game i would expect to play on a real nokia. Great game!

Simple but challenging - definitely have to be precise on some of the jumps. Good job!

Another classic phone game vibe, well done! Particularly nice job sticking with the pixel perfect movement, definitely found myself jumping off ledges while just keeping a single pixel on the ledge. My one piece of constructive criticism - I struggled a bit with the jump physics, so I think you could toy with that a bit for a more intuitive feel. Great stuff!

cool game, simple but addicting, its like what if a modern game for mobile was made for the nokia 3310.

Developer

Hi.  I tried my hardest to stick to the limited specs and pixel grid.  Come to think of it though, I might have overshot the 15 FPS for the death animations.  Thanks for playing!

I like how the shape of your character comes into play when picking where to jump!

Developer

Oh yeah. I created the character first then built the movement and level and then realized this was some kinda pixel perfect platformer like Celeste. Funny things happen with a limited scope. Glad you enjoyed it.

You can play this game on mobile.  Tap on the screen to reveal the touch controls.  After 10 seconds, they will disappear.

Developer

On the title screen, press a direction (Up, Left, Down, Right) to start the game.
