Description
The OST is a classical, chiptune work that was inspired by the Mother series. I used FL Studio as my DAW and mainly fumbled around a keyboard until I had a funny idea. Song descriptions can be found below (as well as in the project)!

Taketomi Village: This serves as an opening song of the game played while Tsukiko explores her home of Taketomi Village. In Taketomi, many people use the coast and abundant fish to make a living. Tsukiko has a deep connection to the water and fish herself, as many of her ancestors were fishermen.

On the Water: Tsukiko walks the beach at night, as it helps to clear her mind. Unfortunately, this night she would be swept into water which is the catalyst for the rest of the game.

Underwater Waltz: A playful waltz, which plays as Tsukiko solves puzzles (among other songs). This serves as a reminder that something about this underwater world makes Tsukiko feel at home.

Tsukiko: The titular and final song of the OST. Tsukiko eventually meets a woman, fully robotic and almost alien in stature. Their meeting is filled with mystery, but also, love. Tsukiko feels a strong connection with this leader.

Message from the artist
This was my first-ever jam submission AND my first time fully crafting songs for an OST. Quite the challenge but I am so glad that I did it!

Theme

Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
The main themes of water and bubbles are scattered throughout most of the songs. Also, the purple color of the picture really inspired the nighttime theme I also used quite a bit!

Lovely little entry! I could feel the Mother inspiration, and it definitely had the underwater vibes. It was very relaxing too, I enjoyed it!

Developer

That is awesome! Thanks for seeing the influence from the Mother series!

This was super cute and i enjoyed the approach you took that really reminded me of earlier rpgs and games styled to sound like them (eg earthbound and undertale). I think Taketomi Village was my favourite, your melody especially was really nice and i think the way you use a mix of smaller and larger jumps in it made it really compelling to listen to.

Thanks! I said how much the Mother series inspired my songs, so Im glad other people see its influence as well :)

very refreshing and pleasant~

Developer

Thank you!

Nice atmosphere here!
In first track shaker is too loud, and keys bit clashy, in the end of last track lead synth is too loud. Overall interesting experience!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback! I agree that my mixing could definitely use some work lol, this was my first time using FL so I'm still trying to mix and master better for my songs

Enjoyed this a lot! Lovely bit of bossa nova on the first track, always just right for anything set around the ocean.  That ending of the final track was an unexpected twist - it almost goes a bit Earthbound with those wobbling chords. Thoroughly enjoyed that! really cool stuff, congrats!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Earthbound/Mother was also the main soundfont that I used on the project so I'm glad that you got that vibe from it!

I really like this style! Feels very bubbly and full of character, very fun to listen to! My favorite track was Tsukiko, I love the second half

Developer

Thank you so much!

So good!! 'Tsukiko' is my favorite. Reminds me of liminal spaces which I didn't realize could work so well for the water theme. Such a unique vibe! Would love to hear more work in a style like this.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Tsukiko was originally two separate ideas, but I liked the transition which added an interesting tone to that piece!

Taketomi Village - cute? Yes! Cozy? Yes! Did I want to go to the nearest river and fish? Sure!

On The Water - Heh... I want to drown... (Is it just me or does the guitar resonate a bit too much, which makes the sound start to vibrate unpleasantly?)
Underwater Waltz - Heh... BUBBLES!!!!11!!! (I love that percussion in my right ear. Heh)Tsukiko

Tsukiko - Cute beginning and... a “broken” second half. Sounds original.

Beautiful story and a good soundtrack that complements the idea of the game!

P.S. Cool penguin in your avatar

Developer

Thanks for your feedback! As for On the Water, I used a SoundFont synth to pluck the chords. I think maybe they can have issues on the high end of their profiles, but I'll have to look more into it! I appreciate the comment!

P.S. Noot noot

Submitted(+1)

Really nice for your fist songs!

I think there was an issue with consistency though. The first track was really really good and it felt very full. The 3 tracks after that felt a lot more empty and a little unfinished.

The third track felt particularly out of place because of how different the strings sounded from the other songs.

With more practice and time I think these would be excellent!

Developer

Totally agree, still working on seeing ideas all the way through and there were definitely some issues in the songs matching up in terms of complexity. Thanks!

Great job for a first attempt at an OST!

Developer

Thank you for the kind words!

YES BOSSA NOVA! Thank you for this! Nice compositions and pretty chords! I especially like the chord progression in Tsukiko, I'm super new to composition and music theory, so not sure if it's chromatic, atonal or something else, but it sounds silky smooth with the volume automation on top, cheff's kiss!

Developer

Bossa Nova is the most underappreciated genre for VGM lol! I used Bubbliane from Mario Oddysey for my inspiration. Tsukiko's progression is a pretty common one used by some famous water levels, I thought it fit well in the context. Thanks for all the kind words!

Submitted

I'm really glad to see someone do bossa in one of there tracks. Really nice writing!

Developer

YES! More bossa nova = better!

Submitted(+1)

Cute chiptune vibes!!

Submitted(+1)

This is the most relaxed I've been throughout this whole jam process lol. Really great work my friend!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! That might be the greatest compliment for me lol

Submitted

Love the bossa nova theme you gave on the first track man! It was so awesome!

Submitted(+1)

Great music! I can really hear this playing in a mother game so props to you for that! That and the soundtrack is just really cute! My favorite track is definitely Tsukiko. Great work!

Developer

Thank you for the comparison, I love the stupid, but seriousness nature of the mother tracks and I did the best to explore that here!

Submitted(+1)

I love the playfulness of the work you made! The large scope of different instruments used made it feel quite refreshing, yet oddly familiar. I can definitely hear some inspirations from many RPG games! The jazz, the feeling of home, the goofiness, and the odd feeling of meeting someone mysterious makes this a really pretty soundtrack. I do feel, though, a bit of the soundtrack feels lost, lead wise, despite having a clear idea of what you wanted with each song. Not to say that negatively though! It gets the idea across with the descriptions you provided. Fav. track: Taketomi Village

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! I totally see what your saying, with me being inexperience toward jamming, I think I should plan a bit more of my world before starting to write because it clears ideas up later. Thanks!

Submitted(+1)

very cool bro! it reminded me of the spirit of rpg-maker games or some visual novels like undertale or endless summer, wonderful

Submitted(+1)

What did you use for the ocarina? I love the quality of its sound.

Developer(+1)

The Ocarina was from the Touhou Soundfont which can be found here Link

If you were talking about the lead in the Bossa Nova-type track that was actually a flute from the Mother 3 Soundfont pack: Mother SF

Most of the other instruments also come from either of these two sfs!

Submitted(+1)

Dude, thank you so much! I will be using these in the future lol.

Submitted(+1)

Sounds cute! This composition style is right up my alley :)
