Description
Genre: Fantasy Orchestral Soundtrack

Runtime: 9 minutes (8:57)

Software: Ableton Live (composing), Davinci Resolve (video editing), Sample Libraries like EastWest for instrument plugins.

Inspirations: Ori and the Blind Forest was a huge one for this soundtrack.

Theme: A girl's imagination was her safest place, and her mother was the foundation...

Each track represents the story of a young girl, from a bright and happy life, to turmoil, and finally ends with her rising back up and overcoming her obstacles.
I tried to make songs that would be practical in both a narrative aspect, as well as practical, such as short "game over" snippets and loopable scenario BGM. Certain songs like Main Theme and Overcome could be adapted to adaptive music, but would most likely be a cinematic song. I tried to use leitmotifs throughout the soundtrack. There's a (sometimes) subtle calling back and forth (C, G) to signify the young girl and mother trying to reach each other. The main melody might be a bit "elementary" at times, but I wanted to reflect the youthfulness of the beautiful and whimsical cover art.

Message from the artist
You all did it! Great job for getting through a Jam! Thanks to Lone Rabbit and all of the wonderful judges for their time and, well, good luck getting through all the music! <3

Theme

Inside my world
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
I imagined the game to tell the story of how a girl with a loving mother. The mother would read books of fantastical stories and interesting facts about life, and those would all fuel the imagination of the young girl. However, when tragedy strikes and her mother is injured, the young girl turns to her inner world, and accidentally gets trapped there. She fights through the darker parts of her mind and with the help of her mother's stories, she finally escapes and returns to her mother.

Wow... It was an interesting and very diverse soundtrack with an atmosphere... A movie? Yes! Precisely! When I listened to your publication, I had a strong association with cinema)

Trials is definitely my favorite! He is alarming and frightening, heh)

Overall a very pretty sound, good orchestration of your ideas and I think the balancing of everything was done quite well. I really noticed your main theme, and thought it was used very well in each individual song that it was in, however I do wish that as a whole it had a bit more variation across the different pieces- it never felt wrong or out of place in any given one, but because I had heard it in such a similar way in the other songs i feel it unfortunately lost some of the impact it could have had on me. This isn't to bash your usage of leitmotif, as it is something I really do like and I did still overall like the fact that you used it to tell story, this is more a slight compositional critique to help make the soundtrack as a whole a teeny bit more engaging, because this was still really good!! I know this may read a bit harsh, but i truly enjoyed this. Nice work!

Developer

Critique is only harsh if you take it personally and not seriously! I'm actually really happy you took the time to write all that and I'm definitely going to use your advice to improve my music moving forwards! Thank you so much and I really enjoyed your music as well!

Deserves a perfect 5 star rating just from the BOINGGGNGNGNGNG in "Distractions".

Developer(+1)

I'm glad my BOINGINGNIGNGGs were so worthy of 5 stars xD Thanks for listening and I was definitely jamming out (and getting spooped!) to your music as well!

Extremely charming soundtrack! My favorite track has to be "Be Strong for Me" with its poignant strings and emphatic woodwinds.  Excellent composition!

Developer

Hey thanks! I really enjoyed listening to your music too! Great job!

You have done a really great job! Your soundtrack begins with this fairy world and I love how it shifts toward tension with "Shattered" and "Trials". Really well thought submission, Well done!

Hi Hys! You soundtrack is WONDERFUL!!

I've no idea how you managed to create so much quality music in such a short time, but I am very happy that you were able to because I enjoyed it from start to finish!

Excellent variations of the leitmotiff.  Plus Distractions didn't distract me but they did make me laugh 😂

Great job!!!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! I'm so happy Distractions is getting so much love because it's actually my favorite of the whole soundtrack for its BOING hahaha

Really enjoyed listening to yours too! So far, I think it was one of the most clever ones :D

A very pleasant listen! Captivating all the way through. I would have loved to hear some more woodwinds in here (I am addicted to the bassoon)! What VSTs did you use? Hearing CSS for strings but not too sure.

I enjoyed distractions the most. It made my brain distracted.

Developer

Yes! Distractions is my personal favorite on this whole OST actually xD

I mostly used EastWest's Hollywood and Fantasy libraries, and also a mix of MusicalSampling's and Sonuscore's The Orchestra Complete 3 to accompany and fill in for EastWest's weaknesses. If you'd like, I can go over every individual section some time over discord! (you might be surprised at a few instrumentations haha)

Looking forward to listening to yours too!

first of all i read the story on the project page and it's a very interesting story to me. great job on it

main menu would be a nice menu theme for a game, the orchestra is very nice there, it's realistic, and a good arrangement as well with those woodwinds melodies and arpeggios, strings, very cheerful, i love it

i like those percussions and xylophone/marimba(?) on breakfast, very cheerful, and the strings adding to it and supporting the melody sounds very good in the result, definitely would fit a game about some adventure.

distractions fits very well as a track that would fit a scene where the main character is distracted and/or confused, that "boing" sound effect kinda caught me off guard haha, its a nice short track

shattered kind of resembles some previous tracks ive heard, but gets odd more and more adding suspense, then those chords that are saying that the main character is traumatized with the main melody being played sometimes kind of like fighting between the "it can't be real everything is good right?" and the thing that happened, and then the chords get louder and louder, realisation taking over the hope, and then the "main melody" being played in a different key, with some extra notes, and it didnt even finish, implying that the main character "escaped to the inner world" and got trapped there. a short track but still so much meaning (at the very least, knowing the plot). great job!

trials sounds tense, ominous, again the orchestra is realistic there, great job

game over is a nice little theme, i noticed it has the "main melody" as well but edited, making it sad and dark and has an "unfinished" feel of it as well, kind of like yeah it is a game over but it's not the time to stop, the story didnt end, very nice

be strong for me fits the described moment very well in my opinion, as it sounds hopeful, powerful, but still has some dark feeling to it as if it was saying "dont give up, be strong for me, no matter what, even if it's tough and hard to keep going and it's very dark theres still a subtle light of hope". and the ending part getting louder and louder works perfectly for the cutscene, i just imagine how the main character gets up and gets more confident. it's simple but still powerful, you sure did a great job :)

overcome sounds powerful as well, epic, dramatic in a way. resembling the main character being able to overcome all struggles, going through the toughest times, getting stronger, although i kind of feel like it could use a bit more percussions before one minute mark, after it it's just perfect

my conclusion is: this is great. you did a great job. i liked the sound design of it, and most importantly i love how the soundtrack tells the story on its own, probably you wouldn't have to read the whole story but just sit down, close your eyes and listen to the whole soundtrack, trying to imagine the whole picture while listening to it. again, amazing, great job!

WOW this is some s-tier feedback! You've also got some really great ears and I think you nailed each instrument call out there xD
