Description
Genre: Classical

Game: Emotional Story-driven Game

Representation: The track "Escapism" introduces the dream-like and whimsical adventure of the protagonist, while "Realism" represents the story's climax, where the protagonist comes to terms with the struggles and hidden joys of reality.

Composition: In "Escapism," I aimed for a lighthearted vibe with a catchy harmony, ensuring the piano and strings blend seamlessly to create a pleasant melody. In "Realism," I sought a more dramatic and emotional atmosphere, experimenting extensively with the strings and altering notes to enhance the soundtrack's emotional impact.

DAW: GarageBand

Inspiration: I was inspired by the soundtracks from Ghibli Studio films, such as Spirted Away.

Message from the artist
The OST Composing Jam has given me the opportunity to challenge myself and dive back into music production after a long break. In making this, I stepped out of my comfort zone and tested the waters of classical music. 10/10 experience.

Theme

Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
When I first saw the picture theme for this OST Composing Jam, I immediately thought of the film Spirited Away. Before composing, I imagined many stories inspired by that image. The story I settled on is about a girl who lives a harsh life and experienced a traumatic struggle that led her to create a make-believe world to find a sense of bliss.

The track "Escapism" captures the fantasy environment she builds to escape from her harsh reality. It reflects her need to shield herself from the pain of her life through imagination and dreams.

In the end, the girl learns to accept her reality, discovering hope and happiness in her real life. The track "Realism" conveys her journey from reluctance to acceptance, culminating in a sense of peace as she embraces the truth and finds joy in it.

I like that the first track sounds like a dreamy waltz, and the second track sounds like a revelation...

Thank you!

aghh you've pictured such an abstract concept in such a beautiful way using these tracks!!! Great work!!! i love your melodies and you've put so much emotion into these pieces

if i can offer one critique, some variation especially from your chord progression and bassline would add so much depth to your piece! you have such good writing and expanding beyond those initial progressions, especially in escapism, can help grow your songs so much more. GREAT compositional skills, keep it up!!

I liked when the strings hit those quick descending notes in Realism.

Lovely! Realism has such a great piano. I think you really got the magical feeling you were going for! Nice one!

I really like the emotion that was captured in both pieces! One thing I can say is that introducing newer chords and feelings throughout the song can really bring out the "Ghibli" emotion that you have a great start to. Great job!

Oooh I really loved the pianos in Realism! You did really well in going towards that Spirited Away vibe. Your songs capture the feel of airyness and the sky. It was both nostalgic and refreshing. Really good job, and it'll be cool to hear your progress as you continue to improve and also get more fancy sample libraries to use :D

Ooh those are some very sweet compositions, I liked it and it really goes with the vibe you described. Great work!

Lovely melodies, I wish you actually had better VST, it's almost a shame the sound isn't as good as it should, given the great composition and arrangement.

Great job!

The mood in Escapism is so special, thanks to a nice melody and this repetitive but engaging left hand. Nice one.

As others have said may be some better vst instruments could help a lot. I'm sure there are plenty good free ones (I use bbc orchestra by Spitfire Audio, it's amazing, you should try it!)

Nice job :)

Love the direction you did with the first track and the instruments! Big fan of the melody arrangement for the strings.  I would've loved a bit more dynamic automation since they seem abrupt at some points, but it still does it's job good.  Nice tracks!

Some lovely ideas here, I think with some better strings sounds and better control you can do something really pretty. On the piano if possible try to avoid triads in the low end, open up the chords by changing the voicing it will made everything less moody. Good job !

Both of these tracks were lovely to listen to. I really enjoyed the emotion infused into both. Great job!

"Escapism" is happy and sad at the same time, fits well with the game's description.

The second track is also nice, the piano stuttering very lightly at the second half was quite original.

The mixing could have been better but apart that it's good.
