  • This entry is fantastic in my opinion, an excellent example of what you could do with a fuller length title. The only real recommendation i could give is -more-, the light mechanics is awesome and i like crafting the power ups. Could be evolved in a few ways like choosing which power up to make first, or more mechanics with the lamp. Good working document in the GDD. the alchemy part of the theme could be a SMIDGE more prominent, but otherwise excellent!
  • Very good GDD, I loved seeing the whole design process. Very cool! The ideas and foundations link very nicely to the game jam, and the underlying themes are mysterious & magical with an awesome soundtrack! Thoroughly enjoyed my little play through. Feedback: Implement a training section to the functionality behind the game. (How you move, what the lanterns do, how you get the different jumps to show etc) Add item descriptions to the items in crafting window and inventory The rest of the game is nicely laid out and thought out, please keep going with this. I would be very interested to see how you implement new items and upgrades to the movement and alchemy :)
  • Interesting game mechanic with the light. I enjoy the game!

By now it’s well established that the game is extremely polished and the presentation is amazing. So I’ll just list some things that made it a little hard for me to fully enjoy it.

First, the controls seem to be optimized for gamepad but with keyboard it would be nice to use mouse for lantern switch. Right now it feel like too many buttons for one hand.

I really like the exploration part of the game and didn’t mind when platforming grew in complexity. But two heads in later levels introduce a constantly ticking timer which forces you to rush through levels. And I don’t think final levels are intuitive enough that you can just finish them without planning. But you can’t really time planning because of the ticking timer. I hit a wall on the level where one of the heads just blocks a small passage you have. I have no idea what you are supposed to do there.

Overall, I would really love for the first half of the game to be expanded into a full game. And for the later half to be an optional challenge so that I can just not touch it.

At this point, I don't think I have anything to add that others haven't said. Outside of not being able to use the map other than in the house room, the game is incredibly polished and I found the harder platforming sections to be fun. Very cool integration of the themes in the gameplay as well!

Excellently done!

I think that this game absolutely nailed the theme! :D
It is very well designed, the art is so cute and the gameplay feels really smooth <3
Congratulations!!

What a beautiful and well made game. I loved the atmosphere, the particle effects (including the dust while running!), the movement and the level design was really well done, progression felt rewarding and the difficulty was enjoyably increasing. Although the mechanics itself are nothing special or new, and are a pretty basic interpretation of the theme ("ah yes, you have to brew a potion before you get your new skill. and ok, there are hidden platforms.. and a lantern..."), it all felt like a coherent concept and worked well together. Really fun to play! Hope for more

Absolutely incredible game.

First off, the presentation. The art visual effects, music and sound effects are all stunning. But the best thing about this game is its incredible puzzle design. The tools you created for this metroidvania-ish game are incredibly unique, and with deep mechanics. You clearly have an amazing talent for level design. The mechanics are introduced gently, but built up into complex and satisfying puzzles. This game is what all puzzle platformers should strive to be. Amazing work!!

Really fun game, I was sold the first frame I saw this beautiful pixel art. The mechanic is really cool, only thing that is a little bit annoying is when you switch light on second to last lvl while standing on the bottom 1x1, if you are not in like 4 pixel gap in dead middle of it, you will snap to being on the wall of block. Had to redo that quite a bit of times due to that. I dont really play platformers so the last lvl was really hard but rewarding in the end. Looking forward to seeing what you made of this game in the future!

RATS WE'RE THE RATS!

Incredibly well made. The aesthetics, art/music are wonderful, I can't praise the game enough. Definitely one of my favourites from this gamejam. The body feels a tad heavy but that doesn't really negatively impact the experience. I really hope you continue development and thanks for this cute experience ^-^

An extremely solid foundation for a Metroidvania. With some of the most beautiful pixel art I've ever seen.

The game just throws you in with no explanation at all. GO WANDER, EXPLORE! Normally that's a bad thing in gaming but when your game is so well designed that it's intuitive enough for the player to learn it themselves without needing to be taught then you know you've got yourself a great design.

Concepts are drip fed and introduced slowly and very well, players are given plenty of time to understand the goal of the screen and just when you think you know everything a new concept or ability is added which ups the stakes further. The progression is perfect.

By the end of the game I was juggling double jumping, wall climbing and switching lantern states to avoid the 2 wolves who wanted to get inside me! It was hectic but in a good way. The only major issue I had was the wall-climb auto-sticking to walls when I didn't want it to. But it didn't hold me back that much.

As I mentioned at the start the pixel art is beautiful, not a pixel out of place everything shines with character style and readability from the well animated character to the clearly communicated platforms and enemies. The ui and crafting screen is simple but stylish at no point was I ever confused about where to go or what anything did.

The audio is great the increasing "tone" of the wolves getting closer/further away is a nice touch and the SFX (especially picking stuff up) felt nice.

I'd love to see more of this game in the future especially if we're going to get some sort of narrative/story to wrap it in. That was probably the only thing missing that I would have liked. Without it though the game still shines in all areas and was an absolute joy to play.

Fun game, really enjoyed how tight the controls and game felt overall. The level design was interesting puzzle-wise and straight forward enough to never feel like I didn't know what to do next. The art direction was really as well

This game looks amazing, I really like the post-processing effects.

The art is fantastic and the sound design too. The levels themselves were also very intuitive and the puzzles were difficult at times but still a lot of fun. I could really see this as a finished game on steam, very good job!!

Very good game. Like the mechanic and the game is executed well. Good job!

This was incredibly good!!! It feels so polished and well put-together!! I really like how all the abilities you unlock work together in the end. It was quite challenging, and I died a lot, but I never felt like the game was giving me an unfair challenge. Stellar work!!

This was really cute and fun! Great work! :D

This was insane! As a fellow solo dev in the game jam I would just dying to know how you are able to pull off this much.

Nothing that I can add really. This is just perfect.

Wow! The atmosphere, the visuals, the music: Immersive.
This is so polished. Loved it. <3

Extremely polished and well crafted. The music, the art, the movement, the mechanics, everything is really well done. The only critique I have is some puzzles require quick movement  / APM which I feel goes against the casual puzzle platformer vibe it makes me think it is.

Game has a good art style and I like the game however the Fullscreen forcing it on the player isn't a good option to opt for. I would fix that for the player and have the view port a good size for Webgl.

Nicely done, 10/10. good luck with the jam.

WOW the art is 10/10 and polish 10/10! this is an amazing game for the game and the time it took to make it! You could probably sell it on steam for 5 bucks and no one would know it was made in two weeks.

The brew potions to gain abilities is very smart and the lantern is a good mechanic.

A few gripes I have with it though are:

- The movement feels a little slow and unresponsive

- It can be very finicky to drop out of a climb

- These reasons leading to you to blame the game for your death

Overall an awesome experience and smart theme implementation though!
