SCREAM JAM 2024 gHost's Choice -

A game that bleeds atmosphere through the literal lens of its photography mechanic. Players explore a haunted bunker with a Polaroid camera in order to uncover the secrets of the family that lived within its concrete walls. The Polaroid shots reveal narrative elements through writing on the walls, and, paired with a ghost-hunting sensor, slowly reveal the grotesque faces of the ghosts. Although the tables turn on the player in the ending twist, there are no obvious scares but the inventive use of text to shape the environment into a history of sad stories of a lost generation.

Thank you for submitting Bunker 73 to SCREAM JAM 2024, and congratulations on being selected as one of the ten gHost's Choice entries for the jam!

This is a pretty creepy game! I love the story, it gave me goosebumps. Love the visuals and sound design. Great game!

This game was very well done, the first time a spirit appeared in the picture I was in shock. Congratulations to all the DEVs
And I also loved the construction of terror, sounds spread throughout the bunker scared me.

Good job to all the team, the ambiance and setting were Stellar! it's wild how similar our games are when it come to the main mechanic.  We also tried to go for a hot-cold kind of gameplay but went for a sound recorder instead of a camera although, the horror factor of taking pictures and waiting to see what's on them is way more scary!

Nicely done! I actually think the game might stand out even more without the PS1 filter, as the environment already has a lot of appeal on its own. This kind of filter sometimes feels like it’s covering up rough visuals, but that’s definitely not the case here.

Great PS1-style visuals, creepy sound design, and a unique camera mechanic made this game truly immersive. The story unfolds through the environment, leaving room for player interpretation, and the final jump scare was well-executed. For me, this game has no negatives—it’s an exemplary game jam project that others should play to see what’s achievable in a short time. Thanks for sharing!

PHENOMINAL SUBMISSION!!! I love the low poly design and the overall idea of taking photographs is truly a wonderful decision by the devs. I really loved almost everything about this game but I do have some constructive criticism; With the first ghost, I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong to not see the ghost for about 1 min. I eventually figured out you had to stand AND look at the right spot I also did not want to "discard" the photo when I finally got it, maybe make it say "save" instead of discard when it counts?  With the ghosts in the playroom I got VERY confused as I actually photographed the one laying in bed multiple times, I was stuck here for about 10 minutes trying to figure it out. I also guess I ran by the bathroom door too fast for the beeper to work so I circled the map twice before I found the bathroom ghost. My biggest complaint overall though is the lore. The lore seemed like it was thought up in about 2 minutes. I know I'm a minority when it comes to this but I would rather read a 1000 word lore page than a quick one that doesn't really explain why I'm here. Okay so kids go here to smoke cool, am I a kid that smokes? did my kid go here to smoke and not come home? I just didn't grasp why I was there in the first place. (time for major praise) The ambience within your game truly rivals AAA titles. I can not explain how insane the goosebumps were when a radio would click on or when I would hear the THUMP THUMP THUMP in the hallway, The doors were a smidge too loud for me but I have pretty sensitive ears so that's on me. I actually hollered so loud I scared my cat with the final photograph, I knew it was coming but it still got me really good. Overall your game is a true contender in this competition, and Slothclap Studios genuinely feels honored that someone whom created a game of this magnitude even posted within our thread. We will be following your progress as the competition continues. Thank you for the experience.

Thanks for the in-depth feedback! Really glad you liked it. We're thinking about working some more on this game, unlocking some of those doors and adding some new areas and members of the family, and we'll address how to communicate and improve the function of the sensor. Also about the lore, we left it pretty vague (for now...) but you can learn more if you investigate with the camera... also as a big fan of The Thing, I'm honored to play your game and glad you like ours!! Follow BrageKH and you'll find out if/when we post the update for the full game :)

one of my all time favorites of the jam so far! great build up, great spooks. there was a great progression from pretty spooky, getting spookier and then the finale was the spookiest part, listening to the radar chimes get closer together. it was such a great touch to be able to see them coming closer in the camera too. great polish on this, would be surprised if it wasn't top 3. really feels like that early indie retro horror!

Okay, this was really good. There's a constant build-up in tension, almost made me want to avoid taking photos. The visuals and audio make it unnerving. At the end, it was cool how I could take photos through the bars as they approached me. Overall the game feels very polished. Not much to criticize here, except that finding the kid in the bed was very hard... and I was surprised the person still had access to online forums when he was stuck, possibly dead inside an old bunker.

Very nice atmosphere. I did one Ghost Hunt in an abandoned school once and this felt very close to the real experience.

A very cool game! Beautiful graphics, atmospheric music and a creepy story! Mechanics with a camera have been around a lot, but you managed to make it creepy. I really liked it very much

Amazing game. Everything is done very cool here, a game with anticipation. The graphics are very cool. The story is really interesting. I even got goosebumps, especially from the first photo taken next to the shelves. The mechanics with the photo are brilliant, you keep waiting for a screamer, and the scary thing appears, but gradually. And you get a real screamer only at the end.

So far this is the best thing I've played at this jam! Excellent work!
