I think it's good. It was very fun, but I wish that there was more of it.
I think first of all, the crows should only be taken care of with 3 bullets, and maybe making a harder crow version later on.
I think that the amount of items that spawn are a little much, they seem to over compensate due to how weak you are without an item.
Stage 3 was completely mindless because I had like 8 potions drop and so I didn't have to worry about my health. Stage 4 was very fun due to how much was on screen and that only 2 potions dropped.
I think having less items drop or just having different chances for items would be nice. Less potions made me much more aware of what I was doing. Also, the shotgun spell has its symbol be "III" which could just mean, three bullets. But to me implied, spell number 3. So I wish that there were more items that changed your spells. And maybe if you pick up more of them, you can upgrade your spells.
I wish the game was a little more hectic.
Also, I wish that there was some kind of boss fight. I understand it being a gamejam, so you might not have had time to do it. But it does feel anti climactic to just end the game with no boss fight or really any indication that Stage 4 was the last stage. Not to mention that the cutscene, coupled with the music makes it feel like I got a bad ending. But I don't believe that I got a bad ending or that there were multiple endings. If there are, then it should be more clear that I got a bad ending, and a hint as to how to get the good ending.
Also speaking of music. Don't love that there isn't any. Sure, you make noises when you walked, but when standing still, I just don't love that there isn't any music playing during the levels.
And lastly, and I don't know what caused this. But when I called a frog enemy in level 4. It teleported to the right side of the screen behind the rocks (the level boundary) and kept hopping around and trying to attack me. I'm not sure what caused it, and it isn't a big deal at all. But just wanted to mention that it is a thing that happened.
Overall great game, hope to see it improved.
Thank you very much for your feedback. Many of the issues listed were things I couldn't work on due to the jam time, but I plan to fix them after the voting is over. There was a boss stage in the works, but it was boring and tedious, so I thought it would be better to cut it from the game than to leave it in and have it be bad. I'm reviewing how to organize the items and other upgrades, as well as better balancing the enemies. I need to investigate what causes the frog bug, but I plan to fix it.
Thank you again for playing my game.
Nice. Super fun. Looked great. Solid entry.
I do think I would have preferred keyboard movement and just using the mouse to shoot, but I know that was one of the diversifiers, so kudos for pulling it off. Nice work.
Good luck with the jam.
Very fun and just the right level of difficulty. had loads of fun beating it
What a well polished game! Loved the screen transition effect, and the small teleport animation at the start of the levels. The pixel art is also superb, specially the full sized character on the score screen.
You did great, contrats!
its amazing everything you got with 4 colors, one of my top contenders right now
You did an amazing job. I had so so so much fun with this, loved it a lot
Playing this brought a wave of nostalgia to me. This reminded of the old NES/Gameboy games. The chicken ‘cluck’ sound effect gave me Chicken Invaders vibes for some reason :D The graphics are top notch (great use of the 4 colour palette diversifier) sound and music too. The controls took some getting used to at first but that was short-lived. Story, graphics, gameplay, overall my favourite game of the jam. Fantastic!
Had a blast playing this! Loved the look and sound. Very enjoyable :)
Really great entry! Had tons of fun playing it.
The visuals are stellar and "4 Color Palette" diversifier made it extra charming. The implementation of the "Mouse Only" made for very unique controls, I feel like I had to rewire my brain to play it and I had a lot of fun doing that.
Also the chicken sound effect when you get hit is really the cherry on top on what was already a pretty sweet experience. :)
Fantastic entry, my favorite so far!! Amazing art, smooth and chaotic gameplay, and a cool story! Job well done, hope to see this expanded on in the future!
Art and sounds feels very retro, love it. Great enemy design.
Some better sign for low mana would be nice, like a audio clue. Controls can be improved, like holding RMB and keep moving.
Insanely good for a jam game !
Everything is on point ! Gameplay, visuals, juice, animations.
Very fun & just the right amount of challenging.
Only little feedback I can give is the control scheme felt a bit odd at first And I felt like LMB to move and RMB to shoot would have felt more more intuitive.
But apart from that it's, pretty much a perfect jam game. 5 stars all around. Great job !
Hope you expand on it after the jam.
Really well made, love the use of the 4 color palate. Overall great game, keep up the good work!!
Nice game! The graphics look really good, great use of only 4 colours!
The sounds were also nice, although the footstep sounds were a bit too loud.
One thing I didn't like was that power-ups override each other. I found myself actively dodging them when I had the shoot power-up, as the other felt inferior.
Other than that, good job!
I'm glad you liked it. I added the sound effects at the last minute and didn't have time to balance them, I'll do that as soon as the Jam is over. The Power-Ups overlap was supposed to bring balance, but it ended up complicating things a bit, I'll review this after the Jam. Thanks for the feedback. :)
