Extremely groovy and fun platformer. Almost thought you pulled a full vehicle level on us at the end, or at least a credit shooter minigame like smash bros! I won't dock points for that though, this game is awesome. My only critique is that I found myself occasionally wishing I could shoot or strike diagonally, but that might require additional control or animations.
Honestly an amazing but simple game
The design of the enemies and hte player character were really well done loved the little cute frog transforming into a frog mech and the enemies were designed well to and simple enough to show of there threats and what they do.
My favourite part was the soundtrack especially the credits really amazing especially since you done it all on your own.
A simple, but overall fun game. While things felt a little basic, it was well executed. My only real complaints are that the gameplay was a bit dull. I was expecting at least one or two sections to really focus on either platforming or combat, but neither really took the reigns at any point. I was mostly surprised that the dash slash never really had a moment where its mobility uses came into play, but perhaps either I missed a secret or there just wasn't time to do more.
A solid entry for sure.
A big feeling I have about my entry is "style over substance", so that all checks out haha. Focused a bit too much on the aesthetic side and didn't really get deep enough into the mechanics or level design to make anything beyond "basic but functional". With more time I'd like to expand everything here and make things feel more satisfying. I appreciate the thoughts!
This is one of my favorites so far! I love that you've considered the whole experience, from title-screen to tutorial, game and credits. Music and sounds are great, difficulty feels right, there's humor and the the world feels alive!
I did fall into some bottomless pits that I wished were easier to identify and I wished it was longer, but over all this was a great little game/demo. I hope you expand upon it!
Also best 'credits'-scene I've seen in a long while :) Nice work!
The bottomless pits were a late addition and I was a bit mixed on them - I do think they're maybe not that clear or obvious and I probably could have tried some other more interesting things for the level design. Thanks for giving it a spin though! I'd like to continue work on it in the future.
I want a flying combat level
Awesome short platformer that I was def sad when there wasn't another stage :'( Controlled pretty nicely. I think allowing for short jumps might be nice, so that if the player short presses the button, they don't get the full force of the jump applied. Being able to dash slash through bullets was very cool. And I liked that there was more than one path, that adds a lot.
Absolutely stunning visuals together with sounds and music. So you actually implemented day and night cycle? :D Sounds are super well done, i love the dash sound effect, it’s super satisfying to hear. And then there is the music, oh boy. That synth line in the level after the tutorial, superb!
Movement is very well implemented, everything feels good to move. I love the fact that you implemented air cancel for the dash, so i can jump or fall and then dash, very satisfying! Just the cooldown for it feels a bit needlessly large, i wanna use it more often :P
Also the menu start and death animation are super cute (turning from and into the little frog) and the credit screen is great as well.
The only things that’s probably missing is a bit of challenge, because as of right now it was very simple, i barely even lost one health point. And i’m someone who usually sucks at platformers :O
Thanks a bunch! The day night cycle is really a simple sprite replacement for some BG elements but I thought it added a little visual flair haha.
Agreed about the challenge, I spent a lot of time on the aesthetics to the actual mechanics and enemy behaviours are all pretty basic. My goal was to at least make a full playable stage for the jam (outside of the tutorial) but it is definitely super short and easy. I'd like to get some more interesting challenges in if I keep working on this one after the jam.
For the solo entry this is just stunning! Is the music original as well? I really enjoyed the whole experience a lot.
Thank you! I'm primarily a composer so yes the music was all done by me during the jam. Thanks for playing!
Wonderful gameplay, visuals, music (especially the music) and experience as a whole! I already want more!
no more to say in french we have INCR
Mega Frog X ! and totally awesome :D
Had a great time playing this, while short (that is perfectly understandable under jam circonstances) the overall quality and polish is tremendous.
The artwork is really great i like the mech frog’s suit design it really reminded me of those sorta battle suits you could occasionally get in Megaman X 4
Gameplay wise i like the fact that you’ve spiced things up from a classic platformer by having the dash end with an auto swordslash, pretty fun to use ^^
What totally steals the show for me however is the music O_o it is incredible ! the intro and level tunes perfectly captured the vibe of oldschool japanese 16 bit action platformers, and the credits tune is a certified BANGER \m/ è_é so good in fact that i left it running while writing this comment !
Rad entry, can’t say any more, well done :)
I think this is one of the strongest entries in this jam. As an action platformer, I felt the controls were good and tight, and the graphics were really well done, but the sound effects and music are probably what really pushed it into 'must-play' category for me. Having the night sky come in half-way through was a great touch, and really surprising. Overall, it feels like a lovingly-made homage to 16-bit platformers of old like Mega Man, and I had a ton of fun with this one!
Hey another solo dev! (there are dozens of us! Dozens!)
Amazing songs! (they remind me of megaman 8) I really liked the level design, and the dynamics of shooting vs dashing depending on the enemies and their positions.
The stage becoming night was a very nice addition, this game has lots of personality/atmosphere. Also, the length of the level reminded me of sonic. I was so rooting for there to be another level, not because I found it short, but because I wanted to play more. Such vibes. Really nice entry, great job!
This was a great game! It gave me a lot of MegaMan X-like vibes, it was really fun! I really like the graphics in this one, and the music is awesome as well! This was a lot of fun, and I had a great time playing it. Good job, Jamphibious!
Nice to see some nostalgic and throwback. Amazed work overall for a solo developer. Well done
I'd love to see more of this. Feels, sounds, and looks amazing! Awesome Entry
Neat little platformer ! The sound design is on-point, and the art is really good. Really loved the parallax backgrounds ! The bestiary is nice, and the mechanics are good ! Felt a bit like Mighty Switch Force !
(Z to jump doesnt seem to work on the web version of the game)
Edit : Jammin'
Thanks a bunch! Aesthetics got a lot of the focus from me but glad you enjoyed it all around. Hoping I can do more with the mechanics later.
Z seems to work on my end but I know Godot web exports can be a bit spotty - definitely runs better in the standalone version.
Well i'll definitly give it a try ! Would love to see more in the future
I really liked this entry. Its not hard but for someone like me who's not a platformer buff, this game is good enough of an experience. The aesthetics are clean and overall has a distinct style. I love the enemy and robot designs as well. The controls are janky to some extent and the story is kinda non-existent but for a prototype design, this looks promising in terms of aesthetics. Well done.
Thanks much! Definitely prioritized the aesthetics/vibe a bit too much, so the mechanics ended up pretty simple and my plan for short/simple dialogue prompts and story didn't make it in. Hoping to expand on it though - thanks again!
