Thanks for the review! And yeah I realized that after submitting the game haha. All the sounds are super peaceful and then you get a trumpet blasted in your ear at the end lol
Really enjoyed your game as well! Super creative!
Really interesting concept! Played some similar games, but the paper folding was a unique twist. I also love the animations and the art style.
The game did feel a bit buggy at times, and I got stuck eventually on the roof top bc I did not know where to go next. Overall definitely enjoyed it and loved the concept!
Really enjoyed it! Love the art style and love how many different enemies there are. Also thought you pulled off the effect of everything growing over time really well.
I did feel like I was getting overwhelmed pretty quickly with enemies. And also did not feel like I was powering up fast enough to keep up. Was trying to collect all the cheese I could get but was still struggling haha
overall really nice game!!
Very beautiful! Incredibly polished for a weekend game jam. All the levels felt really well put together and full of life.
I did feel like the puzzles were a bit too challenging. I could have used a hint or two at times and I think it would have made the game a lot more enjoyable. Otherwise really enjoyed the silly story!
Nice entry! and thanks for reviewing Cell Life :)
Love the arcade feel and how polished everything is! I think the concept is really cool and love all the different modes you added like the drunkenness, zoom, etc...
I did take a me sec to figure out the controls and what was going on though. I also felt like the 10 balls on the screen rule was kind of a weird way to end the game. Maybe you have a health bar instead? And every time a ball touches the edge of the screen you take damage?
Overall really enjoyed it! Nice entry! and thanks for reviewing Cell Life :)
Love the concept of adding weight to a card game like this. Makes for interesting cards like the Wagon that provide no value other than a lot of weight.
I do wish the cards were a bit more varied however. Maybe having a ranged unit that you can place behind a tankier unit would add more strategy. I also think some spell cards would be really cool.
Really nice job!
Really cool idea and executed well! I had a ton of fun building up crazy contraptions to fight off the enemies. And it felt like all the parts were working as intended and I could combine them any way I see fit. Very well done!
Some polish would have made the game feel a lot better. But I understand the time constraint. But just some knock back when I hit an enemy, or having them flash to white real quick when they take damage would have gone a long way IMO.
I'd also love to see some more varied parts. Maybe you could add parts that provide a shield, or parts that make you move faster, have more health, etc...
Thanks for reviewing Cell Life!
Thank you!! Really good feedback.
Love the idea to put a number on the membranes to indicate the max size allowed. Right now you kind of have to figure that out through trial and error.
And yeah it's like 80% puzzler and 20% arcade game haha. It's kind of fun to try to speed run the level with the enemies. But yeah otherwise you kinda just wait for them to be out of the way. Could see getting rid of them.
Haha sorry ignore the WASD. I think just using left/right arrow keys would be best
And yeah the controls stay the same in terms of the thing you are controlling. But I almost feel like it might make sense if SHIFT always make the blue blob grow and SPACE always makes the orange blob grow. So it's not based on which I am controlling. It is just one button grows one blob and one button grows the other. And again not 100% sure on this advice but something definitely felt unintuitive about the controls
Cool game! I love the concept and the game felt pretty well polished.
It was a little difficult to get the hang of the controls and the first level felt too difficult. But I eventually got the hang of it and had a good amount of fun with it. Would be cool to add some more mechanics that give you speed boosts, like maybe speed pads. Or adding a drift mechanic that gives you a speed boost would be really cool (like in mario kart)
Overall really nice game!
Really nice game! Love the pixel art and the game felt super polished. The shrink/grow gun felt really nice to shoot.
Love the concept and thought the puzzles were really interesting and challenging. It did ramp up in difficulty way too quickly though. I got past the first level no problem but I almost gave up on the second level. And the third was also really challenging. I was able to solve it by shooting while in the middle of a jump but not sure if that is the only way.
Would love to see the idea expanded with more mechanics and levels. Overall really enjoyed it. Nice work!
Really enjoyed it! Loved the blobs movement animation. And loved the randomly generated levels. Curious how you did that with the maze levels.
I did feel like the levels were a bit inconsistent in difficulty bc of the random generation. Sometimes it felt super easy and some times super hard. It also was a bit unclear what would kill me if I touch it. Could make the art a bit more distinct for enemies.
Overall love the concept and I think you pulled off the effect of the player and world continuing to scale up really well. Nice entry!
Nice game! I like the concept a lot and the art is cute and well polished.
I felt like the controls were unintuitive for some reason. Maybe make it WASD or arrow keys instead of space/shift. And maybe also dont swap the controls when you swap characters (not sure about this one).
Otherwise I feel like it just needs more content and mechanics to keep the puzzles interesting. I think pressure plates would be great to add, since it requires one of the blobs to be standing on it for it to be active. Maybe introduce a third blob somehow. Maybe add walls that you can push back and forth from either side.
Cool game! Love the concept and love the cat and fish art :)
I thought the puzzles were fun, but it felt a bit too hard from the start. It felt like the window of time when I was the right size to make it to the next obstacle was way too small and unforgiving. I wish there was a way for me to shrink myself faster so I didnt have to wait (just hold down a button). And finally I felt like it really needed more checkpoints. I couldn't make it past room 3 with the cat, and I eventually got too frustrated cause I had to keep doing room 2 over and over again.
Very cool game! I think the concept has a lot of potential and loved the art.
The game is very difficult and unforgiving however. I felt like I was constantly getting caught on walls and the ghost was catching up to me too quickly. I made it about half way through the level and then gave up.
I would suggest trying to make the levels shorter and easier to start with. And work on making the game mechanics more forgiving to the player. Otherwise I think the game has a lot of potential. Nice job!
and thank you for reviewing Cell Life!
Wow this game is so well polished! Feels like a game you could release as is. Love the pixel art and all the little effects.
I thought the concept was great and the puzzles were really fun. Started to feel too difficult though and got frustrating having to make little tweaks to the planets, watch the whole flight sim, and then repeat over and over. I made it to level 7 before I gave up haha
Maybe adding the ability to make the flight sim go 2x, 4x, or 8x, speed might make it more enjoyable
Awesome game! and thanks for reviewing Cell Life :)
I love the concept! It felt cool being tiny and sneaking behind the short walls or going through tunnels. And it makes sense that you need to be bigger some times to make jumps or run quicker. Could be a really cool game with some more time.
My only suggestion is to let the character scale up and down without having to use the blue/orange blocks. That way the player has to think more about what size they need to be instead of the blocks telling them.
Awesome game! and thanks for reviewing Cell Life!
Cool game! Had fun just messing around with the conveyor belts and printing money. Really liked the pixel art and music!
I didn't quite understand if I was suppose to be combining parts or what the goal was other than to set up money printing machines haha. I think you need a bit more explanation or a tutorial. Also I really wish there was a undo or delete button for when I messed up.
Check out my game if you have a sec. Would love some more feedback as well
Thank you! And yeah the levels are for sure too tough. I literally just had the tutorial and Level 2 built and then with 2 hours left I scrambled to make Level 1 lol
A couple tips that might help:
- You want to split yourself in safe areas, then go collect 2 molecules, then return, recombine, and split again. You can basically keep doing this over and over again to some degree
- Once you hit size 12 you can split all the way down to 3. You can leave the other 3 and 6 in a safe area and they will combine
