I really liked the cards, how they worked and the strategy behind them in turn based battles.
I think the mechanic was well made and really fun to play.

In case it helps, maybe there's some minor bugs like placing cards over other cards (see screenshot below).

I think any bugs are minor and you did a great job.

Wow, you did a whole deck building game in this short period of time, amazing job! it feels very polished and the pixel art looks great (especially the kaijus)! I was struggeling a bit with reading the kaiju and was wondering why it sometimes wouldnt get damage though ;D Also stumbled over a small bug I think (or maybe I missed something): I got a unit back on my hand after equipping it with the "goes back to hand" effect, but I wasn't able to replace it on the board, although I had enough energy. But other than that, really, really great game!

Very nice work!

I liked how the difficulty curve grew. Each new boss was challenging, but still winnable with proper skill. For a jam game, very good balance. Had a lot of fun when I could collect ~28 damage for a unit (put building x2 damage to a unit with 7 damage and still double damage on top), but that's not the norm, it's really luck (couldn't repeat as well)

Nice work!

Great game with lots of potential. UI was clean and pretty understandable (though enemy intentions were a little hard to notice). Lots of cool mechanics which seem to be a mix between numerous roguelike deckbuilders.

Obviously it was made for a jam so don't expect super cool card mechanics but would be nice to see card combos in the future that can work together in creative ways.

Holy cow great work! I did not expect to play a full-on card battler during a game jam! This gave me Inscryption meets Into the Breach vibes. I think it was a genius mechanic to have your discarded cards turned into "scrap" to fuel ability cards. Ditto with having all cards leftover at the end of a turn scrapped so that you start fresh each round (even if my inner MTG nerd died a little each time I had to discard a powerful card). The art was really fantastic, and the UI/menus were silky smooth.

Though I did have a hard time at first understanding why some of my units weren't doing damage, and what the Kaiju's moves were going to be. Even after learning what the shield and the plus/sword meant, it seemed like the units that took damage was random. It also took me a second to figure out where my scrap counter was at. Finally, and it's my inner MTG geek saying this, but I wished that the Kaiju didn't have trample even if it makes complete thematic sense. Justice for the hunters!

I had fun killing Ragnarok, thanks for making this!

Developer

Thanks a lot for your feedback. As a MTG nerd myself i discussed about that trample also with my no MTG nerd partner but we ended up adding it to make it more challenging. Normally i would say you "read the card explain the card" but in this case we had troubles explaining the game and there are some mechanics hidden and not well explained (like scrap, armor, etc), people that never played a card game are having a bad time understanding some concepts that for us are natural like attack and defense. So im glad a card game enoyer like you had a good time. Thanks for playing and killing Ragnarok to keep us safe

Thanks a lot for your feedback, in fact i discovered the game "works" in mobile pretty well, at least you can drag and do everything, but of course the interface was not intended to be working that way. Thanks!

Good card game. If you want, you can play my game: https://itch.io/jam/-pixel-game-jam-2024/rate/2718966

Developer

Glad you liked it! Sure, will rate yours, still recovering from being programming all the weekend

Fantastic entry and probably a great idea for a full-game! had a lot of fun playing it! Really well thought out!

Developer

Thanks a lot for your feedback, fullgame is a hell of a challange but we are considering it, at least to include more features in a more complete post jam version. Glad you liked it!

Wow, what a fantastic jam entry. Got some serious FTL/Into The Breach vibes from the art. I was able to narrowly beat Ragnarok at the end.

I’m not sure if I was doing something wrong, but the “return to hand” augmentation would bring the unit back, but I wasn’t able to use it again afterwards? Similarly, the repair a building purple card I wasn’t able to use despite having energy. It highlighted buildings in green, but didnt seem to activate.

Overall, very well balanced gameplay. I felt like I was narrowly winning at each phase, and having to make meaningful decisions given the resources I had. Really hard to pull that kind of balance off in a jam, so big kudos to the team. I hope yall keep working on this afterwards, because there is definitely a nugget of something very good here.

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot for your feedback. Into the breach was an influence for sure, Glad you were able to beat the game despite all the bugs. I think there is a but with the returning to hand card that keeps the card assigned on the zone so its strange but i saw that bug on sunday night and did not had the brain to find the source after being programming the entire weekend on this. We are planning to continue the game post jam because we are really happy with the result so keep in touch if you liked it!

Very good game for just 10 days!

Developer

We ended up exhausted but we gave all we had. Thanks a lot for playing!

Very good graphics, really. It reminds me of a game I used to play as a kid on the Super Nintendo 64 emulator. It reminds me a lot of the game Metal Marines. Honestly, I'm not into card games; I never played Magic, although I liked the Yu-Gi-Oh game for PlayStation 2 called Duelist of the Roses. But the work you did is impressive. The number of polished pieces of the units and the upgrades is quite complex for the jam's timeframe. Congratulations, guys!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot for your feedback! timeframe is the real enemy on this kind of jam and this kind of games are super challenging. Give Magic the card game a chance! Its awesome!

I was not expecting a card game but it's refreshing. It's fun and very polished for a jam. Lots of great ideas here.

Developer

It was our first card game, if i knew the work we had to make im not sure if this was my final choice :P. Its kind of complex the interactions you end up having and how to achieve some sense of deckbuilding strategies with stages without making a full game but the challange was awesome for us at least to learn.

Thanks a lot for playing and those words!

Great gameplay, awesome graphics. One of my favourites of this jam.

Good job!

Developer

Thanks a lot for those kind words!

before opening this I had an Into the Breach vibe

wow a card experience that kinda feels like inscryption, with a kinda stage sequence feeling like Slay the Spire, already excited about it

even the soundeffects bring me back to inscryption (the part you fight the robot guy)

ok, this feels both like inscryption and with slay the spire, a lot of potential with this mechanics, with perhaps some narrative definitely something worth buying on steam

Developer

Amazing, you mentioned the exact three main inspirations for this haha Thanks for playing!

Developer

Were you part of our brainstorm? hehe. Thanks a lot for playing, i think the game its easier to understand if you come from that references, we are lacking explanations for people who dont. We are considering doing a post jam version with more contente and mechanics we left out of scope so if you like that kind of games keep in touch!

very promissing project indeed, following you guys to see updates

7/10, i like the concept but it needs more work

Developer

Thanks for your feedback! If you have anything more specific could be really useful for us to improve! What you didnt like about the game or what part of the game you think could need more work. Thanks!

Great graphics and idea! Well done

Developer

Thanks a lot for playing!

Nice I like a little card game, even though I wasn't able to destroy the boss I was super close!!

Developer

Thanks a lot for playing, the game is hard to be honest so don't be upset about that, also there are some bugs with return to hand mechas and things like that which makes it even harder, hehe, but defeating the game is totally possible besides that. Glad you liked it.

Submitted(+2)

Great entry! I really like the design, and think it was very well balanced, given the short deadline and nature of the game. I could see this game getting built out into something bigger for sure.

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot for your words, @juandroid made an excelent job balancing the monsters and being able to also deliver awesome pixel art stuff so that was thanks to him. We are considering extending the game in a post jam update cause we left some mechanics out of the scope so keep in touch!
