How does your game represent "Power"?
You play as a skateboarding monkey riding on power lines! Grinding on the wires fills up your Power, which you can spend to do tricks and launch yourself through the air.

Love the air control and combos! Game was a lot more fun after reading through the hints, some of the mechanics weren't clear at first. For example I had exploded via bird collision earlier, but when I launched off of one I assumed it was unintentional. I love the idea of turning obstacles into targets, and quite liked the speed and air you can accumulate. Really well done

Submitted(+1)

Really fun and when you get the movement down, really satisfying!

Submitted(+1)

This is really well put together. The hints were really helpful, and once I started getting the hang of it it felt really good to start getting combos and big air time. Love the shading+outline style too. Ride on young monk

Very straightforward, feels like a modern incarnation of an old flashgame, I love that!

Developer

Cheers mate! The old flash games were the classics

From the power lines to the power meter to a monkey with sunglasses riding a skateboard, this game just oozes POWER. I also love the humor in the game, like the screaming expression on the birds or how abruptly the music stops and the monkey dies on impact. Once I found out you could jump midair without tricks it became a lot easier to recover onto the power lines again. It does get tricky to see if you line up with them sometimes, but something like a drop shadow beneath the player might help with that! Nice work!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks! I've made the wires a lot easier to land on in a new build, I'll release it after the jam finishes if anyone is interested

Yet another confirmation that it is universally canonical that monkeys HATE balloons.

Thank you for this art, rated :)

Developer(+2)

The Bloon... I mean balloons must be popped!

Submitted(+1)

It's a cool game that takes a fair bit of practice to get the hang of. It's really hard to tell if you're going to land on the wires or not.

It's a decent runner game, some cool animation work and art style, just kinda tricky to figure out, especially right at the start when balloons are less frequent

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! The difficulty and feel definitely need some tuning I agree, I'm thinking of possibly adding an indicator or drop-shadow to better show where you are in relation to the wire, do you think that would help?

PS your game looks sick from the screenshots, I'll give it a jam when I'm back at my PC.

Submitted(+1)

Absolutely, it's a cool little game! I do think a drop shadow would help, but I understand it might be difficult to convey so high in the air! Maybe even a little magnetic snap to the wire could help; Nothing too drastic, just a little?

I appreciate it! It's me and my friends' first game and it's definitely got its flaws, but we tried haha

after practicing a bit, it became quite fun to stay airborne for as long as possible.

Also a neat design choice that the balloon-bananas serve as a double interaction. It makes hitting that sweet spot of popping the balloon AND picking up the bananas very satisfying.

Just missing those SFX as it would really enhance the experience.
I also at first though the power lines should have a wider hitbox for landing on it, but I did get better after which it seemed fine as is.

Nicely done, I bet this would serve well as a mobile experience.

Developer

SFX would help a tonne, particularly for feedback on grabbing bananas and hitting balloons and birds. I just ran out of time! Thanks for playing and also for the in-depth feedback!

Submitted(+1)

Nice monkey, good bouncing on birds, like that you need to aim to land on the wires, maybe some with more curves like Ratchet And Clank has would help add some variation

Developer(+1)

Ooh okay, I hadn't thought much about the variation in the wires / pylons themselves. Not sure how I would do curves but now I'm going to think about it. Loved Meltdown btw!

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

cool infinite runner, would love if I could do more kinds of tricks

Developer(+1)

Ey thanks! You're right the game definitely needs more trick variety, particularly grinding to chain combos when out of energy... I'm cooking some silly ideas in my head for when I have time

nice, will be keeping an eye out for updates!

try out our game? (:

Developer(+1)

Just played ORBLORGO today! Left a comment and rated it :)

The movement needs a little bit of polishing to make controls more responsive.  Besides, great visuals, I had a lot of fun playing your game!

Developer

Cheers! I added a bit of acceleration time on the movement because I noticed it was difficult to make small adjustments for example when trying to precisely line up a wire or balloon, but probably over did it. I'll probably tighten it up and make changing directions quicker. I really appreciate the feedback

Submitted(+1)

If this got developed further I'd definitely play it! Controls take a while to get used to, but are very fun once you get them.

Developer (1 edit)

Nice! I had fun making it and definitely want to turn it into a proper game if people dig it, thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Two things I didnt know I was going to do today:
- Skate on a powerline
- Skate on a powerline because I need bananas.
The gameplay and feel was good enough. The jump was maybe a little too floaty, and the powerlines a touch too hard to land on when moving left and right, but overall good job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks mate! Yeah I definitely need to spend more time tuning game feel and play-testing next time I do a Game Jam, I appreciate the feedback

Submitted(+1)

I love this this game, brings me back to the old days playing Tony Hawk Pro Skater and games like that.  Was hard to put down.

Developer (2 edits)

Yo thanks, I absolutely had the old Tony Hawk games in mind while making this - the trick/combo text in the top right is straight out of that style of game

Submitted(+1)

The art style was unique and gameplay was really smooth. I only played for a bit and was horrible at first. But once I got used to the controls, the gameplay was really fun.

Developer

Oh nice, I worry about the difficulty and game feel when I have so little time to test. Relieved to hear you were able to get used to it and have fun haha

Submitted(+1)

The art and animations are super smooth. Either I'm terrible or this game is really meant for controller. Great work!

Developer

Nah the game is definitely too tough starting out, and yeah controller allows for a bit more precision which helps when landing on thin wires or lining up balloons. I appreciate the feedback!

Submitted(+1)

This game is addicting and I appreciate the controller support. At first the powerline seems so thin, how could I possibly land on that? Then you get the hang of it, blasting off of birds and getting huge combo multipliers. So fun! An online leaderboard would be incredible.

Developer

Cheers mate! If people are keen on this game I'd be down to keep developing it further - More tricks, better ways to chain combos, more enemies/objects, and yeah online leaderboards were all things I imagined but cut due to only having a week. Thanks for playing!
