How does your game represent "Power"?
I used power for the theme of the game. You are a character who wants ice cream and must enter the surprisingly giant machine and turn on the power. Each level ends with a segment where you turn the power on against the mechanical defenses, armed only with a stick.

Amazingly visually and auditorily creative, especially for a jam game.
The level design, even with the clunky camera changes mixed in with the hardy controls, is maneuverable and unique while maintaining an avant-garde nature.
It displays a good grasp on balance between gameplay and presentation, difficulty and approachability, passivity and activity.

The sticking point has been the controls for everybody, including me, there's a game dev couple cheats and ideas that could be used to alleviate this kinda issue (directional arrows, maintaining axis through different camera views, etc.), but every approach has its own drawbacks.

Developer(+1)

it does actually maintain axis through camera views! you can also just hold down the run button and let go of the joystick and the character will run in a straight line. it's mentioned a tutorial but the text is a little small i guess.

meant more that the cameras keep your overall perspective the same (eg: W is always away from the camera) to compensate for human instinct rather than as a controls specific

Good game, pretty intense at times!  One small suggestion on the bat - I thought I was bugged and couldn't hit the blockade, I swapped back and forth on controller/keyboard trying to fix it until I found the hidden room. Other than that - great puzzles! You get used to the camera system eventually and it makes solving with speed much more rewarding since you've built upon your previous movement skill level. Cheers

Really nice art style, cool music and sound, really captured that old Resident Evil era fixed camera angle thing! That last gauntlet was really rough to memorize and there were some points around the room with the gears where I feel like the camera angle didn't really change when it should have leading to some repeated, blind deaths, but overall the game was really well put together! Nice work!

Good sound design, really adds to the atmosphere. Love the character bumping head into wall animation :D

I think I found a secret room on the ramp to the power station, that was cool!

The opening presentation was impressive.

You managed to make "basic prototype assets" that also have a lot of style and look to them.  I am noting that for my Mental Hard Drive, but I am wondering how you did it, shaders or making the models or whatever?

The explaining the controls one by one in the level is optimally how games should teach things and you did a good job there.  The letters for the buttons on the controller I didn't understand - looking down my PC game controller actually had letters, but I am used to the Playstation button prompts, so maybe additionally add those icons, or the icon with the 4 face button circles with one showing which to press, or just say "Left face button" also.  Not a big deal but not something I usually have to worry about with finalized games, so would add some polish.

The animations seem to be very well done and the hitting the wall one is cute.

The movement does feel a bit clunky, which may be on purpose to add difficulty, but it rarely feels good to make basic movement itself difficult; usually the difficulty is in executing some sort of jump or killing something. When the character himself can't move well it just feels a bit frustrating.  It's particularly egregious when there is a timelimit to do something.  The movement while not walking is fine, but having to control while running and/or press run intermittently to steer the character correctly, it may be fine as a game design choice but personally didn't enjoy that too much, I like to feel "connected" to my character and not like I'm trying to steer him and he's not listening.

I got to the part with the wooden door planks and none of my trigger buttons on my controller worked for the right trigger prompt, so I gave up there sadly.  I do have an off brand game controller for my pc since i rarely use it, but it is the playstation standard layout, so not sure why it didn't work.  probably would be fixed by a key binding screen but that's a little advanced for a game jam.

but still, great presentation and i can tell you are a proper game designer with some experience.

Found this meme, what i would like is the top Left, or the center, and apparently I am not the only one. Kenny.NL (the free assets guy) has some of these in his UI or buttons pack or whatever.  Nothing game-breaking for this one, but a nice to have for future stuff.

Thank you for the input! If/when I can update I might try to change the control layout to something like the neutral option on that chart. Also- are you on linux? Someone else had a problem with the triggers as well.

The art was all about making something high impact while being efficient to make. Everything is unlit and just relies on interesting uses of shapes and patterns and room layouts, and trying to break up patterns if they draw too much attention.

Nah I'm on Windows 10 but it's probably an issue with I have an off brand Amazon PC controller.  It has all the same buttons as playstation but probably the game engine didn't know what it was or something.  However, the sticks and face buttons worked.

perfect game, I wonder if you take inspo from killer7, I give all 5s, I don't have a mouth

I've been playing kIller7 recently- the way it looks is amazing! Might've been a subconscious inspiration🧐

This game looks beautiful, i think the presentation and level design is really cool, amazing art style, but by god the controls are horrible. Resident evil had tank controls for a reason, the controls are so inconsistent between cameras here and it feels like there is a lag before they adjust to the new scene. Got softlocked on the last level, wish I could have seen the ending.

Also the hit stun is way too much tbhh

Also this must be mcdonalds ice cream machines work in the US.

This game is so good. I especially love it since the static cameras remind me of older resident evil. Cool game!

Big fan of the presentation! Rated :)

Had me at "How much do you want ice cream?".  Cool style and aesthetics. Interesting take on ice cream!

This is genuinely amazing. I stumbled into one secret room by accident early on and ended up trying to look into every nook and cranny I could just to see what else I could find. The controls were fluid and consistent (I had to use keyboard) and there was a small amount of entertainment from smacking into walls while running. The minimalist aesthetic works so well, it built a good atmosphere and everything that could be interacted with was very obvious, and it ran smoothly.

+1 for Linux support!

Secret rooms in games are GOLD.

Tank controls aside, this was a lovely little puzzle experience! The threatening corporate stillness feels like a mix between Resident Evil and Portal, just great stuff. I did notice a bug where blocking on vertically moving platforms freezes the player in air. But yeah great game, the ending plot twist was so sad :(

Developer

thank you for the bug report! i'll fix it when i'm able to reupload files.

This game rocks hard. You're really good at designing for a fixed camera and the framing you do with it is really incredible. Great job !

Honestly excellent. Just needs true tank controls and it'd be perfect.

Doesn't seem to work on Mac :(

Developer

I'll look into it!

The aesthetics are immaculate, this looks fantastic! I really had to grapple with the tank controls on keyboard
